San Francisco Zen Center
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 12 ธ.ค. 2012
San Francisco Zen Center was established in 1962 by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi (1904-1971) and his American students. Suzuki Roshi is known to countless readers as the author of the modern spiritual classic, 'Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind'.
The purpose of San Francisco Zen Center is to make accessible and embody the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha as expressed in the Soto Zen tradition established by Dogen Zenji in 13th-century Japan and conveyed to us by Suzuki Roshi and other Buddhist teachers. Our practice flows from the insight that all beings are Buddha, and that sitting in meditation is itself the realization of Buddha nature, or enlightenment.
San Francisco Zen Center has three practice places in California: Beginner's Mind Temple, in the heart of San Francisco; Green Gulch Farm, whose organic fields meet the ocean in Marin County; and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center-the first Soto Zen training monastery on the West coast-located in the Ventana Wilderness inland from Big Sur.

Is there a living breathing reality that is prior to knowing this or that? What is the sense of wonder before we "know" this or that. Perhaps life itself is silent wonder and that is our primary reality and we only appear to be separate from the silent life and seemingly separate from each other.
"The farther you progress toward a vision of our species without limiting conditions on your consciousness, the farther you drift away from what makes you a person among persons in the human community." -- Thomas Ligotti, The Conspiracy Against The Human Race

Buddhism is nonsense. Where are the real Masters? They are gone, there are only talkers and ritualists. Буддизм - это болтовня. Где настоящие Мастера? Их нет, остались одни болтуны и ритуальщики.

I wish I would have heard this exact teaching 25 years ago….
Blessed prajnaparamita, holy prajnaparamita-- you are the Buddhas' Mother, and Buddhas are your children. Mother & children-- to have no own-being is your own-being. Mother of Buddhas, Mother most blessed, Mother most pure, I say your names, auspicious names. Listen! Prajnaparamita is: vast, all-knowing-all, knowing the way of all awakening, knowing the ancient path, ungraspable, suchness, un-caused, -- nothing added, truly real, true, pure, limitless, signlessness, wishlessness, being beyond being, empty of own-being, non-becoming of becoming, Dharma-nature, Dharma-ground, Dharma-seal-- the way of Dharma, emptiness of all dharmas, empty of beings, empty of personhood, empty of personality, empty of individuality-- independent, empty of thoughts, --an empty mind, consciousness-- free no time, no sense of mine, absent of conceit, mind unobstructed, released-- nothing to attain: O' loving Mother, womb of all Buddhas, flowing source of all Bodhisattvas, friend of all beings, companion to all, sustenance of the whole world, inexhaustible storehouse of good will, river of all understanding, ocean of all healing, purity of the heavenly eye, clarity of the heavenly ear, boundless awareness of the thoughts of others, infinite recollection of previous lives, no taints-- blessed diamond, immaculate lotus sacred & majestic-- developed in the four foundations of mindfulness, developed in four right efforts, developed the four bases of spiritual powers, developed in five spiritual faculties, developed the five strengths, developed in the seven factors of awakening, knowing the eightfold path, going forth fearlessly-- the six perfections, generosity cultivated, virtue cultivated, patience cultivated, vigor cultivated, samadhi cultivated, -- yes! profound gratitude to all enlightened ones, gnosis of the all-knowing, emptiness of the subject, emptiness of the object, emptiness of subject & object, conditioned emptiness, unconditioned emptiness, boundless emptiness, emptiness without beginning or end, emptiness of sin, emptiness of sinlessness, emptiness of the original nature, emptiness of own-marks, emptiness of non-apprehension, emptiness of non-existence, emptiness of own-being, emptiness of the non-existence of own-being, emptiness of emptiness, --silence, no birth, no creation, no ending, no destruction, no eternity, not one thing, not many things, no coming, no going, right understanding of dependent origination-- void of fabrications, void of craving for all dharmas, void of apprehension, void from the beginning, no ground, non-dual, undivided, open gate into the quiet calm of clear luminousness, like space-- the Mother's own-being like a dream, the Mother's true nature like an illusion-- glowing circle of the firebrand, one taste, all dharmas, -- Ekayana! Anyone who recites these 108 names of prajnaparamita is freed from all suffering. All Buddhas-- past, present, and future, keep innermost to their hearts, the prajnaparamita, as all bodhisattvas guard, protect, and defend what is innermost-- our loving Mother. Say yes to prajnaparamita, Blessed One, Mother of all Tathagatas, Say yes to prajnaparamita, sweet nectar endowed with boundless love, Say yes to prajnaparamita, all-knowing of the Tathagatas' knowing-- Open the heart and constantly say the following words: Om prajnaparamita, most holy prajnaparamita, luminousness, source of all that is luminous, unfathomable truth, body most beautiful, our comfort & aid-- trembling, holding, quivering, weeping, going, coming-- Mother prajna come, Ma, our refuge, do not delay, stillness beyond stillness, Svaha. One who goes forth in prajnaparamita keeps the 108 names of the prajnaparamita innermost and recites them constantly, and all obstacles arising from past actions are extinguished. Dying, having recited the 108 names, one will be reborn as mindful, steady, and of great discernment. Dying, having recited the 108 names, one will recollect the Tathagatas and will know Dharma. Dying, having recited the 108 names, one will be reborn as mindful, steady, and of supreme wisdom. *(O Mother prajna, you spread your truth-- your knowledge destroying ignorance, your gracious love, for all of your devotees who love you!)
Hoooozàààààà
What a brilliant talk 🙏
Please do not delete my comment for telling the truth here . I do not like zen I do not like Rinzi I do not like Soto. I went to both in NYC and iam not trying to be a jerk but with out writing a book here I really can’t stand ither one. However I do like Shugendo they say it comes from Japan but most likely is a folk Taoist import and even if its not it creates a symbiotic relationship with nature so in theory it could lead to spooky abilities but mostly gives a natural high of sorts . The rinzi had a nice gift shop where I got some agarwood incense but other then that they both suck at least here in NYC and yes I have a very good experiential and experience with meditation and like the historical Buddha very much but over given it a chance for over 10 years and iam out. I was homeless in NYC and could meditate for hours a day I spend 2 hours in zazen I walk out feeling like I need a shot of Dilaudid. I have sever nerve pain hit those wood blocks one more time and tell me to stay still, and iam stealing that cool looking talking stick. I get more out of simply reading zen mind and then donating it to a library. And then it’s like taboo to talk about Satori or the scientific aspects of what occurs to the nervous system through yoga. Good grief. I’ll stick to animism and shamanism it’s a shame because you don’t want tho through the baby out with the bath water but I can’t associate with these groups. Just to simply practice right speech The other things one of the monks complained to me I was breathing to loud well I did have a cold but anyway the soundless breathing things is a esoteric concept where you breathe mostly through the dantien through moving your muscles around your umbilical area…. Yea this monk definitely without a doubt did not know that. Staying still in meditation is a by product of reaching deep states of meditation smacking blocks together saying be still may make someone feel important but that’s it so next time someone says zen is good for nothing to sound enlightenmened they are right but not in the way they usely will be. The odds of finding someone in a zendo with insight into sunyata ehhh I don’t know maybe it’s possible but that’s about it it’s possible.

The volume is very low on this one. As though recorded from the back of the room or even just outside of the room. I mention it only to warn others that volume might have to be turned up to maximum and you might be startled when an ad interjects at a much higher volume.
Wow! I can't believe there aren't any comments! Paula's work is so important and so extraordinary. I cannot wait for this new book to be published. I have been waiting for decades for accurate representation and for a reflection of balance that recognizes women's roles and contributions to the Buddhist path. Paula, may your work flourish and find its way into the hearts and minds of everyone.
"The monk and the mother are always sweeping across the dancefloor together...". As a mother of 4, 2 of which are now adults, this statement and those that followed beautifully resonates and makes me feel seen. 🙏

May I propose one further step? Recognize the pain. Aknowlege it. Then allow oneself to desolve into it. Become the grief/pain/suffering
Very often these rituals or gestures fascinate the Westerners
There's something quite forced about jukai. Something quite constructed. Our hearts are more subtle than that.
