WINNER A458 Automatic Mechanical Watch | Long Term Review
ok, that piece of metal is actually the setting lever spring, it straight up broke off.
The watch movement is an automatic version of the Shanghai 7120 (aka Tongji) movement. It's basically an automatic mechanism slapped onto a manual winding movement hence why it does not work too well. Oh well, you can find a replacement movement for the auto winding version on ali so it's not a huge deal.
if he had the aptitude for it he could potentially find a donor movement to get the setting lever spring off of since that's the part that broke off.
A458 : for me, it stopped 3 months after ... BUT it was a just a screw floatting under the balance wheel (easy repair) & did work for 2 years, until i jumped to my current NH35 (better quality) ➡ i did a video of this A458, because unhappy first ... (but not for the 1min repair) ➡ for you : this is a broken "Setting Lever Spring" ? (keyless work ...) but the movement (7120 ? 8120?) is "as cheap as" the watch, and moreover, they dont sell this part yet on alix ??
What is the difference between this and the MDV106?
Nice video i love this model
Thank you! 🥹 It’s my everyday watch and I’m still amazed on how good it looks! 😁👊
Amazing upgrade and very nice video!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it! 😌 It is still the best upgrade you can do to this beautiful watch in my opinion! 😁👊
Sweet
😁👊
Hey thanks for the video. Does it still working?
Thank you, I appreciate it! 😌 Not really, I made a video about it 😁👊
@@MyWatchCollection great, for it's price it's pretty good. Anyways I think I'll save for a Seiko 5. Thank you again for both videos, I really appreciate people like you that make this kind of videos trying to help others.
A Seiko 5 is a huge upgrade from this one, I hope you find a good deal, it’s a substantial price difference! 😌 Thank you for leaving a nice comment, I really appreciate it, have a great weekend! 😁👊
It looks like a broken pawl for the self-winding mechanism.
My winner, though another automatic model, have worked for years. It keeps the time quite well, and the date never fails. However - the automatic winding mechanism barely works as the winding part moves very little.
I Broke my G Shock Ga 100 1a1
I like it
You got 8 years out of that POS movement. Amazing.
I wonder if I removed the winding weight and just wound it manually when I want to wear it if that would reduce the wear and extent the life of the movement?
I perfer the ZULU Diver watch band from the UK, makes it a solid watch!
Long Island Watch makes great after market bracelets. I have one on my Citizen Promaster BNO 150, love it.
Alba al4553x1 is better than this casio
Don't ever go for alba
Islander bracelet look alike steinhart submariner hommage oyster bracelet
Where is fish logo?
This new Duro watch has no Marlin (Sailfish) logo because it's smaller case diameter than Marlin what I know..
I have read in some other reviews that Casio now doesn't have the license for the Marlin logo, so they cannot include the logo inside the watch.
The watch is identical to the 106, copyright stopped Casio from putting on the Marlin logo is the only difference with the 107, I just received my 106 yesterday brand new with the Marlin logo, awesome watch. I have a Fossil automatic and plan to add an Orient dive watch to my collection in the future.
A real Duro has the Marlin logo
there is no marlin logo in duro's anymore.
@@OguzhanSekerr LOL 😆 EXCEPT FOR THE MILLIONS STILL FOR SALE LOL 😆
@@AnarSchism. wow so funny man keep going on without any information in your life
@@OguzhanSekerr LOL 😆
Everyone has different taste, I appreciate the cleaner look, so I prefer the version that I have but, I also like the older versions with the marlin logo, they’re obviously both real Duro, let’s say that one is simply more recognisable than the other! 😁
I appreciate simple things. 😁
Non ho mai capito a cosa serve quella corona che gira, chi mi spiega?
Grazie fratello
I tried to ordered this, but they are currently out of stock on both types of bracelet. I found another bracelet through a TH-cam video, and I’d love it and it’s much less expensive. But the quality is great.
I just checked, they are both available right now but I saw them out of stock not so long ago, I'm not surprised at all, I think they sell pretty well knowing how popular the Duro is! 🤩 If you're happy with the one you've found, that's the most important thing! 😌 Is it one of those with the Marlin logo? I'm just curious! 😁
Could you provide al ink to the alternative bracelet you got?
The Duro is a great watch, and totally worth the money you spent to upgrade its band. If you’re feeling adventurous you could replace the mineral crystal with sapphire. At the point you’d have a life watch that will still be ticking and giving crystal clear time decades from now.
I agree, it's definitely worth the upgrade! 😁 Probably you didn't noticed, it's not easy to spot, but, there's a glass protector applied to my Casio Duro. I briefly talked about it in my previous video, it's very clear, perfect dimensions and cheap (5$ for 3pcs). I'd like to upgrade to a sapphire glass but for now I'm very satisfied with this solution, also, this watch is a gift from my parents so I don't feel like modifying it too much, or even opening it, for now at least ! 😆 Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it! 👊
@@MyWatchCollection I didn't even know glass protectors existed for watches. Good to know! Yeah, I can I understand being hesitant to open up the watch. I've swapped bands and opened a caseback to regulate a mechanical movement, but I've never gone so far as full disassembly.
I wouldn't be able to deal with a mechanical movement, the best that I can do is changing bracelets and batteries, for now! 😆 Which watches do you find yourself wearing more frequently? 😁
@@MyWatchCollection Regulating a Seiko NH35 isn’t too difficult. You open the caseback and there’s a little lever you push on. Push in the + direction to speed it up and the - direction to slow it down. When I say push on it I mean you just barely nudge it. You’d need a loupe to see if it moved. Put the caseback back on, reset the watch, (Exactly. To the second.) and check the time against the actual time 12 to 24 hours later. Rinse and repeat until you’re happy that the watch isn’t too fast or slow. I find myself wearing a Seiko SUR373 99% of the time. It’s quartz, so it’s accurate, and it’s titanium, so it’s very light and comfortable. I have a Cadisen copy of a 62mas with a mechanical movement that I do like, but it’s not as accurate or comfortable as the Seiko so it mostly sits pretty in my watch box.
@@MyWatchCollection I wear a Seiko SUR373 99% of the time. I chased my tail for a couple years trying to find the perfect mechanical watch, only to realize it doesn't exist. The SUR373 is quartz, so it's super thin and accurate. It's also titanium, so it's very light and comfortable. I have a Cadisen copy of a 62mas which has a mechanical movement. It's a beautiful watch, but it's thicker, heavier, and less accurate than the Seiko so it mostly sits pretty in my watch box.
Very nice watch! Will many ladies enjoy looking at me if I wear this nice watch? Thank you.
Don't worry about how other people look at you, if you feel good about yourself and you find the right confidence/attitude, everything else will come along! 👊 PS: Yes, the Casio Duro is indeed very nice, in my opinion, with such affordable price, it should be in everyone's watch collection! 😁
NO ! for that you need a day date in 18k yellow or wihite ,or a nautilus 😂
Casio Duro + Islander Bracelet = Perfect Match! 🔥
"Back in the day" when I dove with a watch and dive tables, this was the one. You simply can't go wrong.
It’s nice to hear from someone that used it in its “natural environment”! 😁 Was it the model with the Marlin logo? Do you still have it / use it? 😄
I gave it to a nephew years ago, I don't think it had the marlin. I have 3 other 'real' dive watches that I still wear diving, for mainly superstitious reasons. Computers are much safer.@@MyWatchCollection
Casio Duro Marlin underwater 🧜🏾♂️🤿💦
😁
‘sup?,yo-perfect job-bye-
Thank you! 😁
Not gonna lie, for its price point, the Casio Duro is an amazing watch! 😁
Case martial ?
Hello, the case material is stainless steel 😁
It sounds like you had a good run with that.
Absolutely! 😁
My poor watch. 🥺
Just replace that single part for lesser than 2 dollars then it's ready for use after a service, go to a nearby watch service shop
That would be awesome, I like your idea, but, at the same time I don’t think it’s worth it. 🥹 You can buy the entire watch for less than 19$ new. A “service shop”, here where I live, would probably charge me the same amount or something very similar. I think I’ll keep it for spare parts. Thank you for leaving a comment, I really appreciate it! 😁
@@MyWatchCollection yeah, your setting lever spring snapped.
I just bought one off internet the rotor doesn’t really move that easy. Or barely at all. Going to wear it to see what’s the deal. But I also Was going to taking it apart to learn how to reassemble. But it’s actually pretty nice. Not sure when I will sacrifice it to learn. lol
Hi, the rotor is a little stiff on mine too, but it's never been a real problem, always worked well. How did the disassemble go? 😁
What’s the use of that small dial inside the watch ?
Honestly, the design of this watch is not made to be very legible, they definitely chose pure aesthetics before functionality. 😁
there realy arent that many cheap watches... seeing as its been 2 years since this video was uploaded
There are many cheap watches out there, unfortunately it's just me being busy with many things, but, I have a few videos coming out "soon"! 🤞😁
i found this thing at a thrift store, the automatic winding is a little stiff, so is the crown winding, it kinda hurts to wind. not bad for a basicaly free watch. i havent seen a mechanical watch before i got this, now i want more
Nice find! 😁 It's nice as a first automatic watch, you can wear it without worry too much. It's always like this with watches, you start with one and without even realizing it you'll have to buy a nice big box to keep your growing collection safe! 😆
Im looking for analog&digital watches but this watch is looking so big for my wrist. Any suggestions?
Sorry for the late reply, your comment got lost. 😞 Take a look at the GA-2100-1A1, it's a bit smaller and it looks really nice in my opinion! 😁
Is this still working? I going to buy one
Not anymore, but it lasted 8 years, I made a video about it recently. 😁
@@MyWatchCollection ok
Bro can u please make a video on this watch after 7 years of daily use. Dose case got rusting?
No rust, it’s still working just fine! 😁
I got this one in steel bracelet and the watch looks ok but the quality is terrible, the chrome plating is coming off just on the first day... But an automatic watch for that price.. it's just fun to have something like this, definitely not a serious buy for me... I'm expecting a year out of it at the most
An unlucky unit or they really changed something material wise, I’ve bought mine seven years ago and it’s still looking good! Nothing serious for that price, you’re right, just a fun watch to wear without worrying too much! 😁
Whats is the movimen type?
It’s a very cheap automatic movement, I can’t find the exact model number, if it has one! 😁👊
I got a response from a seller on ebay. They mentioned that the watch movement is a Dandong 7120. I cant find specs on this as I would like to replace this movement. There is a basic design flaw with this movement that it does not auto-wind.
Is this still ticking?
Yes 😁
I bought both white and white
😁👊
I bought a winner automatic watch years ago and it had very poor quality control. The glass fall on me the back case was open the winner logo was lose the sticker had no glue. It's broken right now.
Unfortunately, at this price point, quality can vary a lot from one unit to another, it can be a bit of a gamble, I was lucky, mine is still working fine from 2016, at least you didn’t waste a lot of money, thank you for your feedback! 😁👊
I bought mine 6/2022 and wore it every day. I found that the auto wind did not keep the watch running so I would wind it manually. After a while, the manual wind failed and the watch made noise when winding. I found that the crown wheel teeth were chewed up and the ratchet wheel was very loose. Now the watch does not wind at all and the only way to wind is to turn the ratchet wheel screw with a screwdriver. I probably should not complain about a $20 watch failing but wanted to warn others about the weak winding system this watch has.
Thank you for the warning, I appreciate it! It’s a very cheap watch and the quality can vary from one unit to another. For example, I bought mine in 2016 and I’m still using it five days a week. I manually wind it every morning and so far no major problem. Sometimes I can feel the winding mechanism a bit stiffer than usual so I expect it to break at some point. For something like 15 dollars and 7 years of use I really can’t complain! 😁👊
@@MyWatchCollection I really liked the watch. Maybe mine was just bad from the beginning.
It could be, yes. In the last few days I noticed that the winding mechanism on mine is starting to fail too. Seems like there’s some really worn out gear, I’d have to open the watch and check, maybe in the future in a video update! 😁
surprisingly - or not - I have had an _identical_ experience... It was ok for a couple of months. Now the crown doesn't wind and it doesn't self-wind. I liked the watch very much for its design and legibility and the quality of the strap and case was decent for the 24Euro
@@cristianstoica4544 I don't think these were meant to be hand wound every day. If I were to buy one again, I would disassemble it and clean/oil the movement and make sure everything is tight. The Chinese make some interesting products but they seem to lack quality control. Again, it is a $20 watch.
I also buy my straps from China through LAZADA. They are dirt cheap and shipped free. Straps from other sources are too expensive you can buy a well made shoe for the prices they ask.😊
Especially if it’s a very cheap watch! 😁
I wish I had watched this review earlier... I ordered it from Aliexpress at a discount for $24.42. "It gains a couple of MINUTES every week or LESS" - this sounds awful. I've been using a battery watch from Q&Q for almost a decade and it was quite sharp for all that time. I haven't used a mechanical watch for several decades since I lost my Russian Raketa watch. I had the impression that mechanical watches are always quite accurate but I admit I hadn't bought watch myself until this Chinese Winner watch.
The one you bought could keep the time better, don’t be disappointed already! 😄 Also, I wind it everyday so, make some adjustments every couple days is not a big deal to me, for the price it’s not a bad watch in my opinion 😁👊
Good work
Thank you very much! 😁
Very nice watch and an honest review. I've seen both videos of this watch, with the NATO strap and the original fake leather strap. Thank you for offering insight on this time piece. I am debating whether to buy one or not as my first automatic. Cheers!
Thank you for this very kind comment, I really appreciate it! For the price you really can’t go wrong with this watch. I’m still using it everyday, it just need a little wind in the morning and that’s it, still going strong after many years! 👊 The cheap fake leather strap is the only thing that will look really bad in just a few months, or at least in my case! 😁
