M4A1-S Re-animation | CS:GO Mod Showcase
One more re-animation mod before I move on from CS:GO to CS2, and coincidentally before new year. Although this doesn't mean I wouldn't come back to CS:GO if there's something I'd like to make there. I did come up an idea for next year's April Fools mod, so expect a few more for CS:GO in case I couldn't get CS2 modding working in time.
The much like the SSG08, the M4A1-S's animation is actually pretty good on its own. The reload is laid back and the sound was nice, the suppressor screwing is also pretty cool back when I first played the game.
But as you know, the M4A1-S and the M4A4 shared an almost identical reload animation. The reason that kickstarted this weapon's reanimation mod is simply because I wanted to make a reload similar to CS 1.6 and CS:S. After all, they branded it "a fan favorite from Counter Strike Source", at least try recreating the vibe with animations, and sounds (I hated the new sound).
Similar to the M249, there were two attempts at re-animating the "M4A1-S", the first attempt dating back as early as mid-2021. The first attempt wouldn't be a pass if I'm to look back at it right now, at least not with the animating techniques I've been figuring out since the last 2 years.
Back then, the dust cover on the right side of the M4A1-S was to remain closed because I didn't have the guts to make a working bolt inside the chamber. That's why much of the animation was has the left side of the gun facing the camera except during inspect, the bolt isn't there to look at when reloading or drawing the gun. The first attempt at screwing the suppressor is pretty impressive though.
And so on my second attempt, I decided to put the bolt from Insurgency's M16 into the M4A1-S. With that, the possibility of what I can do opens up. Watching the bullet chambering is always cool to look at, I even made a ammo check because the inspect animation took too long doing nothing.
For good measure, I also made empty and non-empty reload animation. The empty reload was supposed to have the left hand grabbing and throwing out the magazine much like some guns did in Modern Warfare, but the result isn't pretty. So I figured why not flicking the gun like the M16 I made years ago? Spoiler alert, the flicking's momentum didn't quite add up, the M4 is supposed to keep swinging to the left after the flick, but it looks great enough so it probably doesn't matter. inb4 comment bombardment for lacking momentum
I'm starting to suspect I've forgotten the procedures of 4-point momentum. Much the jolts I made in the creation process is too exaggerated or too weak. Perhaps it's just dunning-kruger effect, I couldn't be running out of artistic energy, am I? I should probably practice more.
The one I didn't expect taking as much time, though, is the unsuppressed firing sound. Something about Gold Source is distorting the weapon sounds in-game, and surprisingly the other way around, it's the in-game distorted version that actually sounds better. I spent a lot of time figuring out why the sound file doesn't sound as good as the one I heard in videos on TH-cam. Eventually I settled with recording the sound in-game, boosting some treble, adding some of CS:GO's echoing sound and called it finished.
However, I don't think 1.6's and CS:S's suppressor sound effect aged well, it doesn't carry enough punch. And like the M16 I started playing with sounds from other games and settled with Call of Duty 4's M4 suppressed sound, it's been in my head ever since I started playing CoD.
The intro animation is a mixed bag, nothing obnoxiously wrong but not too impactful. There seems to be some graphical artifacts in the intro anims that I can't fix. And I hate when the muzzle flash doesn't show itself in 30fps setting, and the full-auto section looks like it's firing only 10 rounds, it's shooting at 600rpm, goddammit.
Figured I should spice things up instead of going to the shooting range *again* and shooting at the same stuff *again*. I loaded up a workshop map that features procedural map generation. It was pretty fun, and hard, even at the lowest difficulty. And as you can see, I'm not a good shooter, I barely got past Silver before getting crushed by people who is always aiming for the head.
Anyway, hope this mod looks good enough as a new year present to you. Might as well make a wish that I get to make new discoveries in the game modding world and take my animating skill to a new level in the next year.
By the way I started playing Stalker Anomaly, cool game, the modders there made really cool re-animations, I even get to fix some of the modding "anomalies" firsthand.

      @tarekcat1 Take a stroll at Left 4 Dead's or Garry's Mod's workshop and you'll have enough of those "I ported this weapon with MW's animation", plus I actually haven't tried mimicking MW-style animation nor have I learnt the technique. Let's hope my style don't stray too close to that. Regardless, appreciated.

    If used with MIGI, the M4A1-S' description will change, along with the actual name of the gun.     I'm not sure how much this set fits overall, but that aside, you're doing the animations some justice! ...although, make sure to check for walls and overstretching, and idk if there's more stuff, not gonna overanalyze it, but some more polish never hurts, am I right? :) Keep going bud and GL!

      They can, but they got either lazy or complacent. In fact I'm kinda interested in how the competitive side of the player base reacts if they do get a new animation. "Oh no I was fine with the original animation, but now the animation is so fancy I can't concentrate", but who knows.

    This looks awesome, simple but effective and fits in neatly with the rest of the game's feel. It's a real shame valve once again decided to be jerkoffs with CSGO and didn't allow us to mod multiplayer matchmaking, the game could be way better with mods and I think the gamebanana would get even bigger than Source's lol. But as always money first!

    Absolutye awesome m8, that pull out animation really matches with the weapons play-style. Fast paced headshot machine. The sound effect change can be weird since im used to the new-old sounds of it from csgo bakc when they changed it, but not a big ideal imo. The inspect animation is really though of; the way it turns it self to show the bullet inside. That can also benefits some skins. Also the way the arm moves each time a shot is fired, everything is so delicate and timeless, just like in the main game. I really like csgos animation all round they are timeless. Great stuff!

      Huh, just when I thought this animation set was screwed up. I guess I've been looking at it the wrong way. Much appreciated. CSGO's animation is pretty simple, not too flashy, not too redundant, and comes with it a certain aesthetics. With that said, they still carries rough edges. Look at the idle animation and you'll see the SSG08 is held up by the finger tips of left hand.

      I think it's fine. There are more twitchy Hyper style reanimations which look ugly in all the games besides MW. This one though feels more subtle.

      I know that some people use noise modifier in 3D software so that the gun is always shaking for the entirety of the animation. I intentionally avoided that, limited the twitching to certain action, and used a certain technique to keep the twitch natural and simple. The animation above is the result Even though occasionally I do get a feeling I'm getting close to MW2019 vibe, which can get uncanny. Especially the G3 in my previous animation. Regardless, much appreciated.

    Figured I could just place the weapon description within the mod, but I'll talk about the MPX here anyway: "The MPX is a submachine gun designed in 2013 by SIG Sauer. The weapon is designed with modularity as its primary feature. Many of the weapon's parts are interchangeable without requiring special tools, such as caliber between 9mm, .357 SIG and .40 S&W, barrel and handguard of different lengths or with integral suppressor, different stock designs, etc. - The MPX is one of the few SMGs to use closed bolt short-stroke gas piston operation, more commonly used among rifles. Having the bolt in closed position keeps dirt from entering the chamber and causing malfunction; and the short-stroke gas piston will also eject excessive gas and gunpowder residue out at the gas tube. This design, when used with pistol rounds, gives the MPX excellent reliability and recoil control to accompany its fast fire rate. - In addition to the above features, the MPX also adapts some of AR-15's design, such as the charging handle, bolt catch paddle, magazine release, fire selector, dust cover, and an M-LOK rail across the top and on the handguard; while also further developing it for ambidextrous use, most prominently the extra mag release and bolt catch buttons on other sides of the gun. - Regarded as a direct contender of the 60-year-old MP5, the SIG MPX signifies the evolution of modern weapon design. With use of lighter materials, better support for attachments and interchangeable parts, breach-loading action becomes more optimized and more efficient, weapons today have become lighter, more comfortable, more modular, and more controllable. The design of MPX would later be used for developing the weapon's carbine variant MCX."

    Ranon Sarono started a TH-cam channel named "hyper" in 2009, sharing much of his 1st person animation among other trivial videos related to games. His TH-cam channel gained popularity when he began uploading joke animations, including throwing magazines out of the world, vomiting speed loaders for revolvers, shooting a gigantic Glock and using double barrel extended mag, etc. In addition to TH-cam contents, Ranon also created contents for several games such as Counter Strike: Source and Insurgency in the form of weapon mods. One of his mod is the "completely normal revolver", a joke mod for CS:S created in 2015. Ranon's animation hobby became a professional career when he helped created animation for Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall 2, and later Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2019, and later Modern Warfare 2 and 3. The rebooted Modern Warfare became well known for its groundbreaking 1st person animation style, its influence still notable till this day. hyper is the one of the first channel I learnt to have fun watching 3D animations. This animation set is created in honor of hyper, as well as many other animator, modder and my family's continuous inspirations. I would also like to thank all of you for coming across this video. My animation style might not be exactly the same as the animators I look up to, nor is my animation up to most people's standard, nor do I create as much contents as others do right now. But I do not believe I would have found something more fulfilling than creating something I truly enjoy. And I had fun. Enjoy

    With CSGO disabling the inventory menu, it's now impossible to view the weapon and its description. Not sure if I should put those detailed descriptions and history of the weapons now, it does take quite some effort researching the weapons. Regardless, here it is: "The G3 7.62mm NATO battle rifle originates from the Spanish CETME Model 58, with its design taking root as early as the StG45M in World War 2. The CETME rifle (designated "G3") succeeded in competing against the SG510 (G2) and AR-10 (G4) in replacing the FAL for the West German Army in 1959, and in 1977 ceded ownership by the West German government to Heckler & Koch for further optimizations. - The design of the G3 rifle served as a basis for many other weapons, such as the HK21 LMG, the HK33 5.56mm NATO assault rifle, the HK54 9x19mm SMG (Later known as the MP5), and the PSG-1 sniper rifle. - The SG variant (Scharfschützengewehr, "Sharpshooting Rifle") and the original G3 are technically the same since both are in the same production line, but are individually handpicked from test-fires for having the most outstanding accuracy due to errors in manufacturing process. These accurized rifles would recieve modifications such as a renewed trigger, an adjustable cheek riser, and a lengthened handguard with integral bipod, and be exported as the G3SG/1, specifically for sniper use."
