I found out what it was, the previous mechanic installed a universal ignition switch, in which he cut & spliced the cables and put ALL black extensions on them to which I installed the oem ignition switch and wired everything but turns out I had 2 wires wrong, switched them and boom the starter engaged and works perfectly fine now

Both key fobs are working properly, it was definitely a battery issue, whether it was the corrosion or the battery but once I switched it out, I used both of my key fobs and they worked.

wow that’s crazy! i couldn’t imagine having to buy multiple batteries in a short period of time

Yes, it definitely cranks up a lot better, and I had an issue before where the lights around the car weren’t as bright, i’m guessing the terminal wasn’t making good contact bc of the corrosion, definitely better but it was also time for a new battery, the old one was 5 years

5-years is normal for a battery, this would be filed under 'regular maintenance' I know there's some 90s tacoma owner with 2-decades on his battery, but nowadays either the batteries suck or the electrical systems are hungry.

Honestly it was giving me problems beforehand, but I did not test it to make sure that it was actually bad, but it has been almost 5 years I’ve had that battery. Any chance you know why it gets corrosion in the first hand?

​@@DarielGuerreroit only takes a little bit of moisture and an electrolyte for corrosion to start forming. Touching the terminals without gloves can leave sweat and salts from your fingers on the terminals that will begin corroding your terminals over time.
