Three Days and Two Nights Trekking cum Camping to Sonamarg Organized by Department of Tourism Studies for the Students of MBA-TTM Concluded
The Department of Tourism Studies organized a three-day and two-night trekking cum camping trip to Sonamarg for MBA-TTM 2nd and 4th Semester students. This adventure trip provided tourism students with an unforgettable experience/skills and practical exposure in the lap of a nature-based tourism destination. This trip acquainted the students with hands-on experience with adventure tourism products to motivate them to venture into the adventure tourism business in the future. This trekking cum camping activity lead the tourism students to learn about teamwork and leadership skills by organizing and participating actively in group trekking and camping excursions. This trip to Sonamarg apprised the tourism students about camping techniques and practical trekking skills that tourism professionals very much require in terms of skills, including navigation, route planning, and survival techniques. It equipped the tourism students with the necessary knowledge and attitudes to promote and manage trekking and camping activities responsibly and sustainably.
The Students of MBA-TTM 2nd and 4th semesters were accompanied by Dr. Ashaq Hussain Najar, Coordinator-DTS, including the Tour Coordinator for the event, Dr. Adil Amin Nazki, Assistant Professor-DTS and Dr. Abid Suhail Nika, Assistant Professor-DTS. The students trek to Nichinai (18 km long distance), Thajiwas Glacier (08 km long distance) and other essential areas of Sonamarg that have tremendous tourism potential. The students interacted with the tourists (both domestic and international), pony wallas and the local community to gather first-hand information. The students were well briefed from time to time by the tour coordinator of the event, Dr. Adil Amin Nazki, before making a trek to various adventure spots of Sonmarg. The tour coordinator briefed the students about the tourism opportunities and challenges that Sonamarg, as a tourism destination, faces regarding sustainable and environmental issues.
