great video ..... soon to start my own FFR build ..... thanks
Check out the new Mark 5 just released by Factory 5.... awesome car!
Cheers. Nice Job! You have also given us a good overview of what it takes to build a sweet kit car :) Enjoy the cruises!
Wicked awesome ride 🎉
Its still a fake copy of the real car, just like the Chinese does .
I agree, Poor mans Cobra :-)
Best video on these types of builds yet. Thank you Sir.
Great video
beautiful car
How did you wire the lights?
@@weathergeek Just tied into the existing front lights
Omg reading some these moments some you are a lil full your selfs 500 hp 600 hp bla bls a lil care an easy into it all can drive ot gezz it's not the x-15 If the rear kicking out scares you or can't figure out ,how do you drive in snow..don't flip. Me sny of your dribble. I've had a gsxr 1100 69 firebird with a 454 bbc 4 sp 4:33 gears 65 gto 427 bbc Sq port tunnel ram twin 660 center squirter 300 hp nitrous kit 5.56 gears 12.1 compression 96 imp new 06 gto 408 supercharged 840 rwhp 65 vett 427 4 speed An the last 2 are still in my garage... Everything has a learning curve...don't go driving like pual walker an his friend an breath you will make it😊
Very good walk thru! Thanks!
Looks like alot of money
Beautiful car. 427's are a lot power. Frankly, more power than you will ever use. My cousin bought a 1993 Mustang in good shape for 7K. So, he has a fuel injected 5.0, a 5-speed and the 8.8 rear end and brakes for thousands less than buying everything new. He beefed it up to around 300 HP and that is more than enough for a 1 ton roadster. The weight distribution is much better than a big block as well so it handles better. Complete kit was around 20K, seven grand for the 93 Mustang plus about 7K in engine upgrades wheels and tires and misc. items. 34K plus paint which was less than a $1,000 because he painted it himself. I helped him trim/sand the body and doors and hood to get them aligned. You also want to trim under the dash and the back cowl as well. You' ll know why when you put the body back on. So, if you are willing to do a lot of work yourself and you know how or know someone who does, you can build a nice 5 litre for less than 35-40K easy. He also used the power steering from the donor stang. Drives like a dream. I plan on doing the same build (small block, 5 speed) when I retire in about 16 months.
Yes 500+HP in a 2300 lb car = insanity but lots of fun when you drop the hammer. Plenty of other power options when you build these. Enjoy your build!
Come on MAN, sat thru the whole show and didn’t even get to hear it.😮
Hey Travis, just seeing this. I’m in the contemplation and planning phase here in NorCal - Santa Cruz. Live the honesty, humility, and TIPS!!! I’ll reach out if I pull the trigger!
Geez some likes wakeboarding!
How do you know what a Spaceship looks like lit up?
I wonder if a 427 is to much torque. Do you think a 302 or 331 is better suited. I see many cobras spin out due to the massive low end torque
I think any engine in these cars could be too much! you gotta keep the right foot under control! So far I have no regrets going with the 427, it is a fun car to drive.
Amazing Build!….(my #1 car…..bucket list 😁😁) Watched and seen Many a Build….You did it Right! Fantastic! Great Job! Now…..Enjoy your work! Thanks for the upload’s. God Bless You and Yours.
I saw one just like that in NH on RT302 & RT3 a few years ago and said that is a cobra out for his first drive ! Then about six months later I saw a it again with the body on it painted black on a flat bed probably just back from the auto body shop !
Super cool car, but it seems like it’s over-motored. I get going with a 427 in a 427 car, but it seems questionable in a 289 body. I’m curious if he’s really happy with his choice.
I also have a FFR Cobra with a 427, 500+ HP it's a great engine in these cars. You can definitely easily drive them and also blow your hair back and let it rip! Also, many Superformance and Backdraft Cobras also are running Roush 427s.
😅 3:25
That is a cool car. Thousands of type IV,s. I,d of put in a 289.
Great review. There's one cool aesthetic thing I've always liked about the Factory Five version of the 289 FIA Cobra... the proportion of the rear section to the rest of the car. Other kit car makes seem to have a rear end that appears hiked up when viewed in profile. Factory Five's version is properly level by comparison. That may be a little thing to some people, but as a designer, I tend to like my proportions nicely resolved. Of course, the actual 289 FIA varied in shape since they were hand made cars meant for racing...who cares how it looks! But for the street, I'm glad someone had a keen eye. And yeah, excellent build project here. I could make that daily driver as well!
Hey man saw your video on the freedom off-road lift and saw it was 4 years ago thinking about getting the lift and wanted to see how it was?
It has been fine, no issues after about 50k miles. Still rides good and no alignment issues. I would definitely still recommend it!
So, I love the idea of these Factory Five builds... but I've stayed away, because I also live in California. My perception was that if I built it... how could I possibly get it Registered in CA? Any insight? How did you do it?
SB100 allows 500 kit cars per year to register for a smog exempt lifetime title. It takes about 3-4 months to go through the process but definitely do-able.
Travis…. Came across your channel. Super interested in maybe in building a FFR Cobra… my issue is about space… and dealing with winters in Colorado. I have the time…. Just need to pull the trigger. Anyway… great job on your Cobra and clicked on the GoFundme… I know it was a couple years ago but it’s still active… threw some money in for the family. Take care.
Thank you for the GoFundMe contribution! Much appreciated for Kyles family... you can build one of these cars in a small one car garage, have seen it done before. Life is short, pull the trigger and start your build!
Gorgeous, dude! Well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
Yours is so clean. Do you use water hose to clean? The manual says to never use water.
Car has never been washed in 3 years now. I just wipe it down with a micro fiber and pink Chemical Guys detailer after every drive.
Awesome car! I've always wanted to build one, but that's more than I paid for my first house.
Great informative video. I would’ve just liked to hear you fire that thing up and let it idle. That would’ve been the topper.
Great idea, I am going to put up a 6k mile video hopefully soon. Here is my first start video. th-cam.com/video/WzV11uZDsGA/w-d-xo.html
Are the side pipes street legal in Cali? What about cat converters? I'm in SoCal
Side pipes are legal in CA. There is no converter or smog requirements on this car. It is registered under the SB100 process which allows 500 kit cars per year to be titled in the state of California. You have a one time engine check (enclosed PCV system) and then you never get checked again for the duration of ownership.
Travis, beautiful build and video. My son and I are about to fire up the engine, no body yet and you gave me some great ideas. I have some questions: 1. I love the grab handle but on my dash, there is no real frame support to place a grab handle that can really be of any use. Is the back side of your grab handle bolted to the frame? After much mental debate, I am now installing the second roll bar, thank you for your wisdom. 2. You tunnel cover looks great, my kit only comes with carpet. Where did you get the solid dark tunnel cover? Thanks for sharing your experience. Dan
Grab handle is bolted to the frame, very strong and sturdy. My tunnel cover was covered in leather hyde I purchased off e-bay. You can visit my build thread on the factory five forum to get more details on the car. thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?35778-Fmans-Dart-427-build-9818-14-quot-Leather-steering-wheel
Bro really said he is not a professional and then went on to show us one of the most beautiful builds ever. Amazing work!!!
I appreciate that!
Wow. Absolutely incredible! Very kind, personable, knowledgeable man. Oh, how humble can a guy be? This is a good friend right here... Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
I put this on my cub cadet as well. I just want to say that not only is it a game changer but the company is great. They offer spacers for my mower and I ordered 4 instead of 8. They have since shipped me an extra 4 at no cost. Well worth the investment on mowers and a great company.
Awesome! I feel like Cub Cadet should just install these on there mowers as a standard feature. I just clicked 132 hours on my Cub Cadet ZT1 and it has been running great!
Need more aircraft landing lights
Anyone know who made that water neck?
Great video! Best overview of a build ive seen. Everyone should do it this way.
From your RV height garage to your hydraulic lift it's obvious you're a multimillionaire but thanks for the info.
Great job! looks very nice. a door on the cubby hole might be nice
Travis. Car looks great. I’m trying to get into a FFR cobra myself but am hesitant. I live in the Bay Area. Could I ask you via email some suggestions?
Thanks for the video.
My dream car is either the 1966 Ford Mustang fastback, 1966 ford GT40 or the 1965 Shelby Cobra. It was the pinnacle of american cars.
Your taste is the same as mine...I truly love all these cars from the bottom of my heart and the history behind these cars is truly amazing...I'll add the Shelby Daytona to the list cuz it's a beautiful beast car that not a lot of ppl know about.
I love it. It's my dream car. HM?
Anyway to turn these lights off/on at will?
No they are always ON
Awesome video, awesome car... That's all I want sometimes. No talking, no music...just the car or the ride or whatever it is. That was perfect. Sub'd and sweet build!
Fantastic, could you help me with a build?
Nice build, congrats! Do you have the specs for your side pipes? Are these the regular or touring models from Gas-N? Also, what is the overall length and inside diameter of the inner through-pipe? Thank you!
I am running the touring pipes, not sure on specs you would have to visit there website.
Thank you for the reply, Travis. This will help me make a decision.
Shit ain't 289 if it got anything bigger than 302
Why roll a 302 when you can have more fun with a 427 😛
A 289 body is different shape than a 427 body.
Really a nice build. Great to hear the 1000 mile review.
