The Doors had a very interesting way to compose songs. 1. First select a *progression of chords.* Be 100% sure about each chord and their inversions. For example, if the C chord is CEG in the music classroom, usually *professional keyboard players use actually GEC.* It gives you better results. · ECG is rarely used. · DFA becomes AFD, that's an *inversion.* 2.The Doors did several rehearsal sessions, and _they were shaping the songs constantly._ · Manzarek was very creative, introducing _a lot of ornaments when playing,_ to get a effect of psychedelics and baroque. · The first Doors concerts were basically, rehearsals in front of crowds. There was a lot of improvisation in the early concerts. · When the song was ready, they took the best parts for recording, everything that worked fine. · Several creative parts were discarded, because they were considered experimental. But we can still hear them on the live records and bootlegs. 3. There are *professional music books* about the doors. · My favorites are from Hal Leonard, among others. _Look for actual organ or keyboard scores._ · *Piano scores* are sometimes focused on the vocal parts, and some piano arrangement. They provide accurate chords, _but the organs parts are most of the time, not accurate._ 4. There are a few videos where you can see Ray Manzarek in action. It is amazing, very creative playing with the right hand, a solid bass playing with the left hand. Vox Continental, sound is very special, but he also used the Gibson Kalamazoo K-101, also called G-101. The left hand was made with a Fender Piano Bass. This is the short keyboard you see on top of the main organ.
