Bath Bach Choir is a spirited group of 90 musicians renowned for bringing joy, passion and precision to everything we perform. We embrace a broad and exciting repertoire from the great sacred works of Bach and other choral masters to the cool secular motets of contemporary composers. The choir gave its first performance in 1947, and in 2022 we celebrated our 75th anniversary year as a thriving, friendly and vibrant society with a performance of Bach’s Mass in B minor. In January 2023 we welcomed Benedict Collins Rice as our new Musical Director.

Marianna Martines (1744-1812) was celebrated in her lifetime as a harpsichordist, singer and composer, admired by both Haydn and Mozart, who attended her musical soirées. She wrote over 200 compositions, which include religious and secular pieces for keyboard, voice and orchestra.

Marianna Martines was a close friend of Mozart. She and her brother often had musical gatherings in their Vienna residence. Apparently, a regular feature at these was Marianna and Wolfie playing duets at the piano.
It was a pleasure to be part of a rarely performed composer here in Bath. The Bath Bach Choir are expanding the choral repertoire in the South West
