F3D Pylon Heat | Ollie Witt flying his Noname 2 at BMPRA race meeting 13 June 2021
มุมมอง 7273 ปีที่แล้ว
Top F3D Pilot Ollie Witt in action flying his Noname 2 F3D model at Garstang 13 June 2021 during the first BMPRA F3D meeting of the 2021 season. Not the best footage, but worth watching for the sound of the MB 40 FAI engine alone!
How to setup Adjustable Thrust & One-Way Drive for Rubber Powered Models
มุมมอง 14K3 ปีที่แล้ว
There are lots of ways of doing it, but this is a basic method which I have used on a variety of models with great success. It is a simple and reliable way to be able to adjust your thrust angle until you find that 'sweet spot" the model flies best on. I've also included some details on my One-Way drive setup which allows the propeller to free wheel when the rubber motor runs out of winds. Than...
Control Line Flying at BMFA Buckminster - Sport | Combat | Aerobatics
มุมมอง 1.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a short compilation of a great day at BMFA Buckminster during October 2020. There was some great fun flying of Sport, Combat and Aerobatic/Stunt models as well as some RC pylon racing in the distance. Most of the sport and combat models were running on high performance diesel engines while the aerobatic aircraft had electric as well as 2-Stroke and 4-Stroke glow engines installed. Locat...
Pink Stick P-20 Rubber Powered Model | Scratch Build & Test Flights
มุมมอง 2.7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
The Pink Stick is my wife Mia's first stick & tissue model aircraft scratch build. I designed the model to resemble the classic Ugly Stick lines while also following P-20 Rubber Powered Class rules as follows... 20" Wing Span & Length Minimum airframe weight 20 grams (Excluding Rubber motor) Maximum 8" unmodified plastic propeller Maximum 4 grams of rubber We hope you enjoy sharing Mia's Pink S...
Indoor Rubber Powered Mini Stick | First Flights | BMFA Living Room Stick
มุมมอง 2.4K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I had great fun taking my new little Mini Stick out for its first flights recently. The air was very turbulent (as can be seen on the first launch) and the rubber I had was far too much for the poor little thing, but it came home undamaged after plenty of fun and sometimes risky flights! Max Flight time was only around 3 minutes but I couldn't pile on the winds because of the excessive climb ra...
Indoor Rubber Powered Mini Stick Build | Start to Finish | BMFA Living Room Stick
มุมมอง 15K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video documents the building process of my latest model... a little 7" wingspan indoor rubber powered Mini Stick or BMFA Living Room Stick class model. I had some fun with a little photo shoot at the end of the video too. Comments and questions are always welcome. Enjoy, and remember Likes are FREE!

Half-Scale Gentle Lady | RC Glider | Hand Launching Fun
มุมมอง 7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my Half-Scale (50% / 1 Meter span) Carl Goldberg Gentle Lady flying hand launched in a 1-3 mph headwind wind on an inclined field. It was great fun even though the lift was minimal and the air was quite turbulent for this little scratch built 2 channel RC glider. Half-Scale Gentle Lady 50% R/C Glider | Scratch Build Start To Finish
มุมมอง 26K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video covers my scratch build of a Half-Scale (50%) Carl Goldberg Gentle Lady R/C Glider. This is not a build tutorial but it does include a lot of information to help other modellers replicate this project themselves. The model has flown very successfully since the making of this build video. I intend to upload the flying video soon! UPDATE - See it fly here: th-cam.com/video/xbXi1am1T98/...
Earl Stahl's Hurricane | 1940 Vintage rubber powered duration model | Stick and Tissue scratch Build
มุมมอง 11K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my scratch build of Earl Stahl's 1940 'Hurricane' I hope you enjoy watching my creation of this beautiful vintage rubber powered model which I built using the traditional 'stick and tissue' method. I built it during the Covid-19 lockdown so sadly there is no flying video yet, but watch this space! The plan is available for free download from www.outerzone.co.uk which is an invaluable re...

    I found plans for many of Earl Stahl's designs online back in 2000. It sparked a renewed interest in freeflight and I joined the Flying Aces Club. I went to the big meeting in July 2001 at the Geneseo NY flying site. Earl Stahl was there too! I couldn't believe it. He was a really nice guy and spent most of his time talking to the kids there about freeflight construction. I got a few pictures of him too. It was a real unexpected pleasure to meet the man.

    Thanks for the video; I’m going to try to carve a balsa propeller later either today or tomorrow for a model. I’m using a 12” x 2” x 1” soft but still stiff balsa block. How long did the process take and what did you use to carve the propeller? Also, the last thing is what grit of sandpaper did you use?

    Build process in video is very well shown. When dimensions are scaled down - how does one calculate and reduce the thickness/ width/ of components like wing spar, ribs etc., to reduce weight to maintain appropriate wing loading since wing span is reduced.

    • @Spr04MQ
      @Spr04MQ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have upscaled (enlarged) and half-scaled plans. There are two ways that I have used to solve this problem. First you can use a micrometer to measure the new thickness, then purchase the balsa which closely matches. Second, you can cut lighting holes in the balsa to reduce weight, while maintaining wing load and fuselog structure.

    Where could i search prop size for my free flight plane 12inch wingspan

    • @Bargle5
      @Bargle5 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are still wondering, the usual rule of thumb is 1/3 of the wingspan. So for a 12 inch wingspan the prop should be 4 inches.

    I liked the chequerboard tissue particularly the black and yellow because the black was dyed in unlike the other combinations where it was painted and smeared when doping. DeLuxe Materials has brought it back but it must somehow be different because they say it can’t be used with dope.

    I really like what you did here. Neat, clean, simple and great workmanship. Curious what size music wire and brass tube you used for your prop shaft and clutch assembly??

    • @matthewhirst9438
      @matthewhirst9438 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Clinton, thank you for your great comment! The prop shaft is 2mm dia and the clutch assy is made with 1.5mm. Of course the brass tube is matched to provide minimal friction with no actual 'play'. This example was a 12" prop with a relatively powerful rubber motor but of course you could use smaller sizes for smaller props and lighter laods. Maxfliart has subsequently produced a video on this concept in which he provides more detail than I did, search for him on TH-cam and subscribe to his channel if you haven't already - he is an absolute master of the art!

    That free spinning prop trick would have blown my mind as a kid. I used to hate how my rubber motor planes would stall hard when the motor ran out. I devised a method that made the rubber fall off when spent but it always upset the balance. This automatic method is so simple and perfect it blows my mind. Beautiful work sir. 👏
