I learned some new stuff today and I have a duck
I would have to disagree with you when you said to wash the eggs I been hatching for a couple years now and at first I didn't know any better and wash the eggs which is a mistake because you're removing the sealant of the mother that keeps bacteria out now that I don't wash eggs when hatching my Hatch rate has gone up so if I put 10 eggs in and they're all fertile I may have maybe one that doesn't hatch and also for storing eggs to eat if kept unwashed they can last way longer
That is perfectly fine to disagree with me on "wash the eggs" but could you clarify when I said to wash the eggs. I rewatched the video and I did not hear where I said that. I know, I said, "clean eggs" and near the end, I talked about a method, I read about. Which is to spray the eggs with a mist of warm water to mimic the mama hen. Thanks for commenting!

You can always try. I would suggest to make sure the oats are cooked.They take awhile to eat anything new. My ducks don't like anything oats.

Do ducks shun other ducks and make them leave their park or pond
That is a great question. I know, my ducks can fight and not like other ducks, just like us. I have had to separate them. Are these wild ducks or domesticated ducks?
It's dumb that there are separate breeds for the colors, there's probably way too much emphasis on coloration with the APA. Runners are runners. My Anconas are loud.
The APA won't accept Ancona duck either, cause their natural spots will not conform to their liking. My Magpie ducks are louder than my Anconas.
May I ask if you know of a good broody/mother breed that’s also docile and good for meat and eggs? lol I know that’s probably a tall order. 😅 We have khaki Campbell’s and they go broody all the time but never stay on the eggs full term. I’ve heard they are not good mothers either but we still love them 💓 Tfs about the Indian runners! 👍👍
Ancona ducks are dual purpose breed and are good mamas. I was actually surprised when my crested sat and hatched.

I know this is an old video but it was a fun watch. I'm new to raising ducks, my ducks are about 4 months old now. I learned a lot of cool things about my ducks from this video. I never noticed the eyelid thing, very interesting.

Thank you for commenting. Good question, but that is yes and a no. I have only one that is not Ancona. That is Daphne, she is Crested. I do not have a camera there as my trail camera died. lol I do not know who was being aggressive. Sadly, at this time, I do not have any place, I can move them and sometimes, if you move the nest, they will not lay anymore on the nest. That is what I have tried last year, but I was not expecting 4 broody mamas.

I love your energy, wish you lived around me I'm hatching ducks and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I'm on day 22 but they look like day 24 but the air sack is smallish
Thank you, so much. I love hatching duck eggs. The air sack should get bigger by the time, they are ready to hatch. I have had some that did not get really big until day 28 and they hatch by day 30ish. I don't remember if I said, they can hatch later. I am impatient person, lol so I am a hover mother until they hatch. I hope you have healthy ducklings! If the egg is bad, it will be a dark color and if you can not see any blood vessels.
Best thing about raising our own meat birds is the taste and knowing where it came from.
Can they eat bird seed?
They can. It might take time for them to eat it. I like to ferment the wild bird seed. Hope this helps. Thank you for commenting!

how often does this happen?
It is rare, but can happen. I just wanted to share. They can die, if we can not get the vent back in. Does not help, they keep pushing it out. But when you find the right position, then your are good. Does not work like that for everyone, just my experience with it.
