Rigging Paddle Tail Soft Plastics Weedless
Paddle tail soft plastics are versatile and very popluar with a wide range of anglers and species. They can be worked across shallow flats, in deep water, and skip cast or pitched into heavy structure or cover... and when used to fish in heavy cover or structure many anglers prefer to rig them weedless.
In this video I explore 2 ways that I prefer to rig paddle tail soft plastics, including one of my favourite lures, the Squidgies prawn. Theoretically though these techniques can be used on almost any paddle tail including the Squidgies fish, Zman swimmerz and minnowz, and Berkley hollow bellies... just to name a few.
Aside from the rigging tips there's some fishing action as I skip and pitch to mangrove jack, golden snapper, cod and barramundi.

@@sportfishingjunkie Yeah mate I'll keep my eye out for ya man thanks mate.
I have found that the noise generated by the electric motor seems to affect the fishing in shallow waters, especially when sitting outside a gutter when live baiting for barra.
@@patgrahamvallance7739 agree mate… the only way I found to ‘limit’ the effect of the electric is to keep it at the same speed the whole time. Means you don’t actually stop though. Same principle as croc spotting… the minute you rev up or down they take off. 🎣
Yea mate, so true. I have found that when live baiting a gutter in shallow water I tend to drop the anchor out.🤣. old school I know.
watching here my friend sending my support nice fishing, enjoy and take care❤😊
How fun is fly fishing great content as usual always look forward 2 your videos cheers Frank
@@frankaquilina8685 thanks mate 😎
Some good tips mate, just a few questions: do you use a sinking tip flyline or just use fluorocarbon tippet to get the fly to remain in contact with the bottom? And how do you keep your electric from making noise and spooking fish on the flats?
Great questions mate! Yes... I prefer to use weight forward full floating line and taper my leader by using decreasing dia fluorocarbon leader... with a fluro tippet. By varying the length of the fluorocarbon leader slightly I either improve presentation (shorter) or go deeper (longer). That said I do have a sinking tip rod but that's for water over 2-3m in depth. As for the electric... with great difficulty! What I do find is that if I put it in a 'creep' mode the consistancy of the electric output has less of an effect on fish. Whereas if I spotlock and/or change up speed all the time it tends to spook fish far more often. When I'm in that slow, constant creep mode I often see fish cruising around under my boat. Alternatively, on those days where they just spook at everything I might use the tide or wind to help me drift without the electric. Hopefully this helps mate... catch ya! 🪰🪰😎

Hi sir, I am a beginner. Can I ask you a question? Can you tell me how to choose the jighead weight?
@@yasinozkaran4417 great question! Eventually your own experience will help you choose the right weight. For now I live by one simple rule… Use the lightest jighead you can provided it gets your lure in front of the fish. So… in deeper water you need it to be heavy enough to get your lure yo the bottom (or to where the fish are) given current & wind. And in shallow water or straight retrieve it needs to put your lure at the right depth to pass by the fish. I hope this helps you get started mate… catch ya! 🎣
What size main line and leader you using please ?
Hi @@davidraguse2106… 20lb Schneider super braid with 30lb Schneider fluro leader. You can come down to 20lb leader but with 80cm Barra as bycatch I stick with the 30lb and shorten the leader a little. Main thing is to be light enough that it doesn’t affect the action of the lure but heavy enough to handle the odd bigger fish. Catch ya 🎣
Nice fish! 👍
I have s factor never realy gave it the love it needs but i see so many people use procure i dont know what works better but hey it it works it works
@@weriesblack1375 the short answer is… whatever makes you feel more confident. Confidence plays a big part in catch fish on lures. Dr Ben Diggles… the guy behind s factor did a podcast on the ALF (Australian lure fishing) talking about how it was developed and although I can never be 100% sure it’s the best attractant the theory and science behind it gave me the confidence I needed to stick with it 🎣

Another awesome video mate! Very informative. I’m heading to hinchie mid September. With out wanting spots are there areas you recommend to hook a Barra. Staying at Lucinda or is it better fishing towards Cardwell end
@@damiansutton-od5ed happy to provide a little local knowledge mate. Southern end is better. Both ends are a little exposed and tidal but Lucinda is less tidal, less exposed and has more options. I fish the middle of the channel a lot but you’ll find barra throughout if you know where and when. Where… Dirty water (and dirty water lines) and bait are key. They will rest up on structure so snag bashing is an option but IMHO over rated. So wind blown mud & Rocky foreshores are good. When… couple hours either side of low are good windows, particularly if low is in the arvo and the shallows warm up. So long as you don’t expect to nail a dozen Barra first morning and you’re persistent you’ll find them. It’s my back yard and if I average 1 fish per hour I’m happy. For visitors 1-2 fish per day is probably better than par. The upside is plenty of bycatch to keep you occupied. Good luck mate 🍀🎣
