Declaration of Mount Safa | History of Islam | EP 19
In Islam, it is believed by Muslims that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received revelations from Allah (God) through the angel Gabriel. The command to preach openly is often associated with the early years of Muhammad's mission in Mecca. According to Islamic tradition, Muhammad received the first revelation in the Cave of Hira when he was about 40 years old.
The initial revelations emphasized the oneness of God and the importance of worshiping Him alone. However, the message faced resistance from the pagan society in Mecca, where polytheism was prevalent. Despite facing opposition and persecution, the command to convey the message openly is conveyed in several verses of the Quran.
For example, in Surah Al-Muddathir (Chapter 74, verses 1-7), Allah instructs Muhammad to arise and warn the people:
"O you who wraps himself [in clothing], arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - Half of it - or subtract from it a little Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation."
These verses indicate the divine command to Muhammad to proclaim the message of Islam openly and persistently despite the challenges he faced.
It's important to note that the Quranic verses are interpreted within the context of Islamic tradition and scholarly exegesis (Tafsir), and there may be variations in interpretation among different Islamic scholars and schools of thought.
