Dang...I do remember hearing the song, Walking The Dog, though.
Actually never heard of this man until what yesterday Saturday October 19th. I DO NOT know how and why the YT algorithm threw him my way. Hoorah!!
I just still don't understand: How did this happen? How did this even happen? It's like this video is from an alternate dimension where novelty music reigned supreme and nobody ever listened to normal music again.
Far better than the original.
I love this song and play it often on amazon music with my earbuds in. Helps me forget about the insanity in the world.
Merveille de merveille, merci !❤
During their early years they played the Jersey shore. I didn't know that fact until I looked it up. It makes sense how Levon says "Over in Philly last night". That's how people in South Jersey say it. It always "over in Philly" not "In Philly".
I love finding strange inexplicable videos like this.
Is that max Weinberg?
Grande
I got to see these guys in the twin cities that year and it's something that maybe matched but NEVER for me anything BETTER they were AMAZING
Thank God for Mr.Thomas your performances will never be forgotten 71 still listening in 2024 Rest on sir❤❤🎉
I prefer live version with the E Street Band over this one. And the Band version on Jericho over the original on Nebraska.
I always thought this song was about a guy trying to be a button man for the Mafia.
Wow, how lucky to have been able to see The Late, Great Levon Helm at this time. I'm wellin' up with tears for what we had.
An excellent cover is when you think it's there song not somebody else's. If I didn't know better, I would have thought this was a The Band original.
As a kid i remember this All happen watching the 6 pm news with my dad being from pa even as kids we knew mr scarfo was boss
💎
I just found out that's the preacher on Fire Down Below, and Coal Miners Daughter
There's winners and there's losers And I am south of the line
We will never see in our life musicians like this again (excuse my bad english)
No smoke, strobe lights, autotunes, lasers....just a bunch of dudes that know how to play and sing...music these days doesn't hold a candle to this stuff...
Was this ever released on CD or DVD? This is like a 10/10 performance of this song. Where can it be found?
There’s a studio version on The Band’s 1993 album, Jericho.
Why am I just discovering this. One of my favourite Bruce songs, and probably the only occasion where a band has covered one of his songs better!
Levon Helm knew things about the universe we will never understand.
Tons of comments here about Levon, of course. But when I see this video I'm enthralled by Rick Danko on bass. By 1994 he was putting on weight and starting to lose control of his demons, which would take his life within 5 years. But here I see a middle age man of immense talents willing his body and voice to give us a great performance.
Rick was in pretty good shape when we shot this in 94. A week later The Band and this horn section played Woodstock 94 with a number of guest artists. There are a few videos on TH-cam of songs from that show, but the audio isn't always great. There's a goopd version of "Don't Do It" - th-cam.com/video/6OvdGLKImPE/w-d-xo.html
Is that Mickey Hart?
The second drummer/BG soinger is Randy Ciarlante.
@@joemulherin7419 ok thanks for the info!! I wasn’t sure lol.
@@85tclower Randy's a well-know player in tyhe Woodstock area.
Wow ❤
You do realise that these guys 2ere serious jazz men!
Does a Groove get any more infectious then this? Those Horns are what pushes over the top !!!
It was my great honor to sing this song with the Weight Band at Levon’s Barn in August 2017 as part of Camp Cripple Creek.
sprry Bruce, they made it their own
Absolutely brilliant
Get rid of the massive orchestrated synthesized background singers and syncopated drummer for Christ sake!!
Your ears must be playing tricks on you. There's no synthesized anything on this track, just Rick, Randy, and Richard singing tight harmony vocals. And Randy's four-on-the-floor, two & four on the snare is hardly a syncopation fest.
Bittersweet is the only way I can describe how this song and video make me feel. I was fortunate to be alive when the Band and all it’s original members were alive and thriving. Now only Garth is alive with Robbie just passing away. 😢🥺
Levon’s voice was the heart and soul of The Band
Oh my goodness. You just said a mouthfull. I loved watching the Hawk in the last Waltz singing to all them on "who do you love"?
I come back to this song every now and then. My Dad passed a few years back and hearing this makes me feel like he is with me. Love you, miss you.
Loved Rufus and Carla Thomas's music...
the great Richard Bell on piano !!
Great song
Actually, it's Colin Linden (Canadian blues guitarist extraordinaire) who co-wrote this with Jim Weider.
Perhaps the world's oldest teenager...
gorgeous song
I wish I could've seen these guys live in my lifetime. RIP Levon Helm
Garth Hudson is the keyboard GOAT!
Ringo's first all star band included members from the band (Levon, Rick and Garth) and the e street band, (Clarence and Nils) One of the few concerts that I missed that rather haunt me.
What a wonderful show that would have been to attend ,nobody has ever done anything like em’ Greatest Band ever imo
Great!
This is the absolutely definitive performance of this classic (including Bruce's Nebraska original, E Street live versions and The Band studio version). Everything works and the horns are perfectly arranged. Sublime harmonies.
He was very close to me and my family. RIP Rufus. Everyday will always be your birthday you taught me
