The simplest way I heard BA job description is, we are Detectives. Coming from a legal background I can definitely see how years of legal research helped.

A business analyst is one of the most disrespected roles and this is due to its fluidity in what it really is and no clearly growth trajectory. Everyone and anyone can be one making it disheartening for those who actually studied to become one. As a BA with close to two decades in this role spanning industries ans projects, Is say Dont go into this role if significant growth is what you are after. Having to explain what really is a BA decades later is the foolishness you dont need as an adult. Go into a more structured management consulting role which is more rewarding

Many business analysis tools are designed for use in the commercial environment (POPIT, PESTEL, 5 forces), and consider things like competition, and potential penetration of external markets. Are there any adaptations of BA tools that focus on analysing the ways that the various tiers of government identify need and deliver services to people? The only one I have found so far is the Local Government Association Data Maturity Assessment.
