I love this video! It’s awesome!!
Never really thought about how horrific it would've been to have ohare being a thru line station rather than a terminal. The congestion of the people coming from Schaumburg thru O'Hare would require INSANE amounts of remodeling outside of what would've been expected and on top of that there would either be extremely packed cars (especially given how packed the blue line can be normally) or frequent delays due to adding more running trains on the line that would destroy reliability on the line getting you anywhere in a timely manner. That would require them beefing up the entire line at least to downtown which we know they are not gonna do. A solution could be making it it's own dedicated line that could use ohare as a terminus along side the blue line and transfer but even then the congestion would still be bad
Build it along the right of way

Hey there Chicagoland Rail fanning! Could you talk about the new Metra Southeast Service for the next video? I can’t wait hear all about it.
Awesome 💯 Happy Sunday night from Palm Beach Florida
Everyone saying this would spur development and be well-utilized are ignoring that the existing system isn't well-utilized outside of peak commuting hours, and there are already MANY existing L stops that have under-dense catchment areas for heavy rail metro. Another L line is completely out of the question politically, financially and from a land-use perspective.
How much would it cost?
I strongly disagree. Western is THE best choice. I don't think its a contest. Could have transfers to ALL the lines metra and CTA, with just a few new stations built. Also modern elavated is nowhere near as loud as legacy elevated are. Currently enjoying a coffee next to the new concrete L in Edgewater, SOOO much quieter than the traffoc nearby.

The biggest problem with a potential merger that it feels like no one is talking about is that if it were to happen the central pwer MUST be based in the city. If it is based in the suburbs then suburban mindsets/services would no-doubt be priorotized. (That's also why metra and CTA Split in the 80s in the forst place)
So many beautiful features for homeless people to pee on.

How about buses. Get a couple of coach buses and make a dedicated bus lane and have stops at stations that connect to cta pace or metra
Western ave is right there...
The CTA uses busses to connect kimball to Jefferson park.
Circumferential lines should cross the spokes when the spokes are carrying the most passengers, not out near the end of the lines.
Hey there. It’s a cool train. It’s called a Star Line. What if it was called Starliner train or the new Metra Northwest Central Service. You could plan on having a video about a new propose commuter train from Mundeline through Hawthorn Woods and Lake Zurich Stations to downtown Chicago or south to Joliet. It would be a cool idea.
I fully believe that the CN buyout of the EJ&E was the largest nail in the STAR Line coffin.
they can do it the way boston does it give it the UP then the destination so UP joliet line or metra electric south west university park
Great video as always, Chicago definitely needs more orbital transit. But I think if you look at the bus ridership, where demand seems to be highest for orbitals already is closer to the city core, with the highest ridership being along Halsted. I think that's a better bet, but Ashland, Pulaski, or Western would also be good ideas.

I worked for the EJ&E started in 2004 and I remember seeing a couple of director specials for this planned line. But I got to say now with the J being owned by the CN I would say that this is a dead plan especially since the CN now runs most of it's freight traffic on the line and in fact we are extending Sutton Siding south all the way to Spaulding. Plus with this line if Metra was to have service on it something would of needed to be done with all of the diamonds that the J crosses that would make their dream of trains every 15 minutes during rush hour very hard to keep on time.
The coal should have been CNAOK with loads to Oak Creek
If you were to give it a colour, which one would you give it?
If apple had a train station
Im using that! 🖖
Wow what a cool station!

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video!
This would’ve been amazing
Heres an interesting idea as well. Extend Green Line Ashland/63rd to midway. Combined with this idea you get a full circle.
Chicagoland is in DIRE need of rail transit expansion, especially Metra.
See them everyday. Engineers loved them.

absolutely, connecting blue and brown would be great. running rush hour browns to ohare would be great.one thing id like to see out of it is being able to dispatch some brown line trains from rosemont, as kimball yard is at capacity, and if you add length without adding trains it will reduce frequency. the problem with that is the blue line trains use different sign curtains than the brown and orange line trains. so you would have to convert cars specifically for brown line runs from rosemont. and then you wouldnt be able to just quickly switch them back to blue as needed. maybe once more 7000s arrive it would be feasible, and i believe converting 3200s is easier than 2600s. i havent had to mess with the signs on a 3200 yet, they just work, its great.
They should combine the orange and brown lines
@@Truewinner112 yeah not sure what I was thinking when I sent that, the standing plan has been to just dispatch brown line trains from Midway when extra capacity is needed. They're yard is much bigger, they often have several dozen extra cars, while the brown line runs almost every available car everyday.
@@dfwrider3830 oh ok
@@dfwrider3830 but I think they should combine.they sometimes combine and I think they call them tiger trains
@@Truewinner112 yep, tiger trains come from Midway, run to Kimball, then back to Midway. Only come out for special occasions now.
Im a conductor on this line. Would be neat to see the crew on the platform giving the high ball.
Don’t like it! Milwaukee sub is dying because of PSR
Cool dash 9!
The subway choice would be best. This allows the catchment area served to be very compact around stations along Cicero and its intersections with other East-west thoroughfares. Boring tunneling technology is maturing and it is only going to get better. To avoid the graft infrastructure projects in the US face up until now, the RTA (or IDOT or CDOT) should simply by its own boring machines, hire workers to operate them and competent their tasks, and then at most competitively bid for consultant contractors for advising the project (to the extent such knowledgeable boring and infrastructure construction supervisors and managers can’t be economically hired outright). For such a major project, we should also be looking into maglev technology like Transraoid and china’s nascent technology for the project. Maglev is costly upfront, but its operating costs are lower, and maintenance is dramatically lower because of the solid state nature of the technology, with no friction or moving parts. Eventually, we might look to rebuilding existing rapid transit and commuter lines with such rapid transit maglev and then allow for a diversity of routes moving from one radial line to the crosstown rim and then to another radial line. With a high initial investment in fixed assets and such very low operating and maintenance costs, as we get with rapid transit maglev, the most efficient use is very high frequency (up to levels with still safe headways) and highly diverse routes. This is the sort of vision infrastructure planning should bring is rather than just more of the same traffic congestion car-centered dystopia we have gotten so far (from for example, the Chicago Area Transportation Study-CATS).
I have been advocating in YT comments for a Cicero line for awhile and love the thought, but I'd turn it into an Outer Loop - North, I'd turn to follow Lawrence w/ connection to Kimball 🟤 Ravenswood Metra, and Lawrence 🔴. South, I'd bring it across 95th w/ multiple Metra connections & 95th 🔴 ending at S Chi 93rd Metra (there's also a RR ROW along 95th E of Dan Ryan). Lawrence would connect N Shore to ORD via Montrose 🔵 and alleviate heavy traffic on Lawrence. 95th would provide E/W ties to 95th 🔴 and connect S Shore to MDW.
This is a really great idea. I feel light rail would be a better fit on this corridor.
I like your proposal for the most part. However, it leaves out the South Side. Perhaps after the Midway-Jefferson Park portion is built, the line could be extended southeast to connect with Metra lines at 79th/Kedzie and 87th/Vincennes, then the Red Line at 95th/State, finally terminating at the Metra Electric at 111th St in Pullman. I know this "pie in the sky," but one can dream.
