Season Two Finale: Essential Procedures in Scrap Recycling #recycling #scrapmetalrecycling#scraptalk
In our latest episode of Scrap Talk, hosts Ross Litz and Kip Brown pull back the curtain on the intricate processes and regulations that govern the day-to-day operations in the scrapyard industry. From understanding the legalities to the environmental impact, this episode is packed with invaluable insights.
Here's a quick look at the key takeaways from the episode:
Understanding Vehicle Recycling Protocols:
For vehicles from 2012 or newer, titles are a must. Older models? You can still bring them in, but a signed statement is required.
Procedures involve thorough documentation to report to the Tennessee Department of Revenue, making sure all transactions are above board.
Bringing your own wheels? Don't forget the title!
Compliance and Verification:
Titles, IDs, fingerprints, and real-time photographs of transactions provide a multi-layered security system.
Important checks on stolen vehicles: State databases return status within 24 hours, and vehicles without titles are held for three days.
Scrap yards like ours typically pay by check, especially for copper items, which are placed on a five-day hold to prevent theft.
Operational Transparency and Record-Keeping:
Every transaction is meticulously recorded and monitored, enabling clear track records and compliance.
Customers can request detailed transaction histories for their records.
Our systematic approach ensures both regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction.
Season two of Scrap Talk has been an incredible journey, and we appreciate your unwavering support. Stay tuned for more recycling insights in the upcoming season after a short break!

i live in south dakota, sell to TJN in sioux falls. i show my id, they cut me a check and i take it to their bank, the bank does not charge me to cash it. there is rt unit can in sioux falls too. i always call both places to get prices. rt unit can buys ONLY NON FERROUS, but pay you cash money! ive sold in minnesota, wisconsin, iowa and arkansas too. IF ANY BUYER THINKS IN GOING TO TRUST THEM FOR A WEEK, THEY ARE BAT SHIT CRAZY! i sold to one place in OTTUMWA IOWA back in mid 2000's they used wells fargo check. bank wanted 5 bucks to cash my check, lots of people in the bank at the time, so i replied very loudly that there checks seem to not be worth the paper it was made of, they cashed it with no charge! tjn used wells fargo but recently changed, never paid a cashing fee there. i sell to who ever pays the highest. yes, they have my dl on file and i show my id every time, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE MY SOCIAL, AND THE ADDRESS ON MY DL IS A MADE UP NUMBER! when i moved here my property is bordered on 2 sides with a dirt road we lived on the back side of the property. no mail dad ever been delivered for the previous 10 years. our official address was on 1 road, so i asked the postal delivery guy about putting up a mail box and asked him what address to use, he gave me a range from 625 to 980 on that road. he only delivered to 1 other person on our road, no other houses there. a few weeks later he told me that the county had got onto him, that they wanted me to go to court house and the planning dept would issue me an address, that was 9 years ago and i still have NOT gone to get that address!!! i had all mail and everything go to the made up address, my automobile registration etc... but it is NOT on google maps either!! if they do NOT have your social security number, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEND YOU A 1099 OR NOTIFY THE IRS!

I watched the video and read the comments. The yards i know will not take burned wire. That it is burned is proof laws were broken..The finger print thing sounds like some bureaucratic crap.Ingots,or bullion copper should be seen as number 1.What doypu think the refiners are going to do with it.Ingpts ship better, are clean 100 percent copper. You can easily tell if it is alloyed with another metal It is les labor for you and the refiner..The buyers need tp figure this out.Its quite simple.

I operated a shredder about the same size as this one for 10 years On a very good day when everything went right 90 tons an hour was the best we could do Most days 70 to 80 tons an hour There’s always something to keep production down These things take a heck of a beating every day Lots of maintenance needed to keep them going

Thin braided wire that is cleanly stripped of insulation melts exactly the same as bare bright without loss of weight in the smelting process.

    • @robk1310
      @robk1310 หลายเดือนก่อน

That’s actually not true. The really thin wires have tendencies to evaporate at high temperatures when added to a hot crucible. You don’t understand the factory process.

@@williammcgeehan3424 1, it is easy to throw stranded magnet wire in that looks bare and is not. 2, each strand has the ability to have more oxidation over a single wire. 3, If your strand wire meets 14 ga. strands it can go as #1 and 4, it dies take more energy to heat strand wire through conduction from strand to strand. All points are moot, you get paid what you get paid.

This happens to me every time with bronze chips I have from my machine shop. Yes, Bronze. The same high dollar stuff they make Olympic medals and statues from. Call and get a price from a Recycler. Go to drop off load. Get a much lower price when I get there because the bronze has a few imprurities after they run their little magnet through the shavings. This is a scam! I have captured bronze chips directly from the cutting tool onto a clean piece of paper and done my own test with a magnet. Guess what? I found impurites with the magnet. WOW!!! Who would have thought? Bottom line, there is no such thing as 100% pure metal. I'm sick of getting Ripped Off by Recyclers.

I am a scrapper from Texas If u first time seller then they have to cut u a check And apply for a cash card. The cash card got all your info scrap yard needs and also it regitstered and Report the transaction to the State. and they want your puddy prints and all that too. But what sucks about other states that 3 to 5 days holding period then cutting a check. But in Texas it every time u make a transaction that state sees what your selling and you get paid same day no wait. Yes I got question by the state, where I was getting my copper once cause I sold 5,000 pounds of number two and I was being invesigated, the undercover state agent was fallowing me around all day street scrapping for like 3 days in a row womdering how i got my copper from

I’m not trying to get nobody in trouble, but I went up a hollow somewhere in Kentucky and found all kinds of old metal steel cars all kinds of stuff that could be scrapped searched for days could not find the owners the people that own. The land said they did not own the stuff, so we removed it for him and I can tell you that the junkyard literally had no questions for us where that stuff came from. They picked it up with a track-hoe And threw it on a bed and about 12 hours later, it was headed down the Ohio river. They never said nothing like this so maybe things have changed. I don’t know.

They pollute the groundwater in the areas they are based at. They sell mixes of used and worn metals which produces the weak metals of today. The metal you see and buy today is not half as strong as the metals of the 70s. People like this love to toss the word Recycling around alot because you have been trained that is a good word. In fact recycling has next to zero benefits in any situation.
