Rebuilding Trust in Bangladesh’s Media: A Way Forward
Read full commentary here: bipss.org.bd/rebuilding-trust-in-bangladeshs-media-a-way-forward/
In Bangladesh, the media’s role as an independent watchdog faces serious challenges. From political ownership influencing news coverage to restrictive laws like the 2018 Digital Security Act that limit journalistic freedom, these issues have significantly eroded public trust. As a result, news organizations struggle to maintain credibility, especially among younger audiences who increasingly turn to alternative sources of information. To restore this trust, measures such as transparency in media ownership, adherence to ethical journalism, and digital literacy campaigns are essential to foster an informed and resilient society.
This insightful analysis is presented by Shamshil Arefin, a Research Intern at the Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS). Arefin dives into the complex landscape of Bangladesh’s media sector, offering solutions for a more independent, accountable, and trustworthy press that serves democratic values and upholds journalistic integrity.

আমরা শেখ হাসিনার আমলেই ভালো ছিলাম।বাংলাদেশে শেখ হাসিনার কোনো বিকল্প নাই।
There is only 3 or 4 security threats to Bangldesh 1. Export decline 2. Currency depreciation 3. Jamat takeover and chaos 4. No economic growth 5. Be careful, USA doenst have a good history among muslim states like Syria, north africa Libia Tunisia, or ezypt , so They don't do same thing with you. Good luck for future.
Could US came out of Two parties politics ?
Do you think country specific SEZ to certain country with whom we have security issues should be continued?
Good question Abu Rushd 👍
Very fruitful discussion indeed, many points and suggestions came out. Unfortunately very few people of the nation have enjoyed this seminar. I wish at least some of the recommendations are materialised. A summary of the seminar containing recommendations may be translated in Bengali and made public for more awareness. Hoping for a better future.

she is cute 🥺
It represents the epitome of enigmatic power politics and geopolitics in this scenario, akin to a small-scale Cold War that will exert a significant impact on Central Asian countries. Behind the scenes, five organizations, including China, Russia, the United States, the European Union, ASEAN, and India, continue their discreet activities. The ongoing Rohingya crisis serves as a prominent illustration of this. In this context, Bangladesh finds itself in a perilous position. Whenever the United States identifies an unstable situation, it often imposes various restrictions on such countries and undermines their stability by critiquing their democratic practices. The Middle East countries provide a prime example of this.

Our govt doesn't know what's next 🤔 It doesnt have any foot print on any major issue, it doesn't have robust foreign policies to deal with new geopolitical scenarios & challenges.. .. Bangladesh isn't Belarus, we don't need to even pretend it only for the sake of '71 that PM had mentioned, her logic based on emotions which won't serve our interests in long run 🤔 Recent change in Pakistan should be taken seriously 🤔
