[Prism] Scale & Hue Sequencer Tutorial
just bought, hope it will gain it’s place in my work flow
Great app. I am enjoying it immensely. It took a small investment in time and effort to understand the interface and workflow, but has paid off several times over. This is one of those apps that just *wants* to make music, and all you need to do is feed it some ideas and steer it in the direction you want to go, and it's on it's way.
Great video thanks man!
whats this? i want it now. 😊
Can I mix time signatures as in stick an odd bar within an otherwise 4/4 song?
Confirmed runs great on Launchpad X! Velocity sensitive keys are a nice touch for eeeeasy otf ghost notes! Picked it up last night after asking about launchpad friendly sequencer plugin and lo and behold This things deeeeeep (in wonderful ways) I just wanted a simple sequencer on my lpx like Ableton does it I dont have time to spend learning all the ins and outs... But after about 2hr of noodling and bouncing between videos and cheatsheets I'll almost certainly be making the time xD Thanks for the killer auv3!!
Global tone sequencer reminds me of transposing on the master track inside of Drambo
I've got the pro version of LP3. I may give this program a go, at some stage. Update: I got the program, it seems so far to work. Need to spend a lot more time testing/trying.
Great app when will it be available? I searched App Store for Prism midi sequencer but nothing was found. I use AUM a lot. This seems ideal to use for creating a distinct rhythm sequence. When is it available? How can I get a copy? The concept of using something like this for rhythm & riff sequence really does appeal to me as I watched this.
Hi, it's available now. you should be able to find it here: apps.apple.com/us/app/prism-midi-sequencer/id6502302630 Let me know if you can't and where you're at. There might be some location based jazz going on
Brilliant! Time to update to a MK3 Launchpad.. my Mini 2 has served me well but I need to take advantage of all the iOS apps (now including Prism - Thank you) that use the newer MK3 versions.. another Mini would be cool but I think I hear a Pro MK3 calling my name.. 😁 Prism + a Launchpad.. can’t wait to play around with this combo.. Awesome stuff..
I'm upgrading from my mini to the X today and I'm stoked. That said, I didn't mean to leave out old hardware. We love old hardware. If someone wants to test with their MK2 I'm down to see if it can be done.
@@A_Mortal_MagePlease do try to expand supported hardware. MK2 and MK2mini support would be great (and probably drive sales). There used to be a developer pdf on Novations website somewhere. Thanks
Sorry i commented on another video requesting an Arp on Prism - you’re way ahead of me 😅
Do you think you might be able to creat an arpeggiator for Prism at some point? This looks great by the way - I bought it the other day
There IS an arp built in to prism. There’s a video showing how to use it on this very channel
I’m assuming it’ll also work for launchkey also?
@@WyattLite-n-inn there are only selectable options for Launchpad Mini mk3, Launchpad X, and Launchpad Pro ml3 It uses Programming Mode to put all on-screen items down on the launchpad The launch key doesn't have the same Programmers Mode that are on the launchpads I can't confirm, but woulf theorize that no, it will not work on any controllers other than the three available, listed by name, in the app
@@PapaBPoppin ok , thanks Papa!
@@WyattLite-n-inn let me clarify... You may be able to use the launchkey to input notes into the sequencer (as a general midi keyboard, again, haven't tested) but the extra, connective, Built-In stuff is relagated to the listed hardware
Hi, i did everything you did but my launchpad mini doesn’t appear in prism, any help? Thanks!
Hi, this was only available for beta users... until this morning! Give Prism an update and you can select a launchpad using the 'launchpad' keypad button in [DEVICE SETTINGS]
@@A_Mortal_Mage thanks!
@@agustinbernal2760 Here are some getting started instructions: sites.google.com/view/prism-midi-sequencer/launchpad-prism
@@A_Mortal_Mage thanks again!
Could this be made to work with push one or maschine jam?
Not a push, they have to be hooked up with ableton to work. I can't speak specifically to the jam. My guess is you could map the MIDI but I don't think the controller responds to light control signals. Also, given the Maschine controllers don't work on iPad I'd be surprised if the jam did.
this makes me (& the many yet to find out) so happy to use -formly forgotten/dusty- gear more on the go 💚. so glad i dont need to load up ableton w/ my laptop to use my launchpad now lol.
Wonderful. That's truly the goal of iOS music. Freedom to create wherever
@@A_Mortal_Mage thank u thank u!
request: adding support for a ableton PUSH 1 (being that theyre more affordable now)🙏. planned obsolescence of gear (in all departments) needs a stern talking to
@@opinionated_Vegatable Oh man i wish! I have a push 2 that I'm dying to use as a controller with no luck. Without getting all raspberry pi hacky you can't use push without ableton. But, I'm going to deconstruct all the pieces that make the launchpad mapping work and offer them up as general mapping settings. It'll take a sec though
@@A_Mortal_Mage soo cool to talk to u! & appreciated anything u can do 🫡
Dude! This is sick .. makes me wanna get a launchpad
It'll be worth it! Even now it is. But when you're cruising with midi CC to and can create an entire song without even touching the ipad (aka reserving the entire screen for sound crafting)... I bet your head will be boppin
Played with this combo a couple times and I’m digging it man! I cannot say enough good things about this app you’re creating .
@@mikejohnaudio You already got it? Hope you're digging it as much as I am
@@A_Mortal_Mage yeah man .. found a used one for a good price .. picked it up Monday . It really does take Prism to another level man ..
Just purchased this app yesterday and I’m already loving it!
Fantastic to hear! Let me know what kind of music you're making and I'll shoot you a feature I think you'll like
I make all sorts of electronic music and also rock music. I like making darker electronic music in the vein of Gary Numan, Nine Inch and nails and Depeche Mode. Also a big fan of El-P
@@justinfoot52 I was listining to depeche mode last night while coding. I had never listened to their live stuff and it blew my mind, way more rock influence than I knew they could get. So based on that here's a few recs: I love those ballad moments in rock. To get those Level 1: Use Tracks->Tone Blocks to develop and experiment with harmonies Level 2: Use Track 1 to lay down a simply rocky chord progression. Don't worry about rhythm. Track 2, use MELT with track 1 as source. lay down a sequence to add the rhythm of the chordal harmonics. Then make sure the keypad is set to TONE MELT KEYPAD and use the specific note filter to take and transpose individual notes from the chords over the top to create the melodic pops that run through these ballads. For Drums: Level 1: Gotta get big snares - use drum track layers. Press the link button to the right side of the keypad and select other pads to layer them. Level 2: Make it technoey - unlink your drums in SEQ SETUP to add polyrhythms Level 3: Add variety and sporadic larger strikes with the 'EVERY' Param. But, take it further but long pressing the 'EVERY PARAM' to customize exactly when it plays over the course of 16 loops (i.e play on loop 2,3,6,7 of every 8. Hope some of these prove fun
@@A_Mortal_Mage Thanks for the tips! And yes, Depeche Mode is almost a different band live. Been a fan since the mid 80’s and still going strong. Can’t wait to incorporate the tips you provided. Thanks again!
Let’s go this is awesome 👏 👏👏🔥🔥🔥🚀
🔥this is exactly what I asked about! how can I participate in the beta? 🧙🪄 I have Launchpad Pro MK3 👉👈
Haha yes you did! Wasn't even started then but i move fast. This is still all based on push button midi control though. CC and param based midi control comes later. Hell yeah! shoot me an email at elementalmusictech@gmail.com with your beta testing email and I'll add you. Would be great to confirm that the pro is working
soo the og name of the app was Ouroboros 😮
yessir, didn't capture the vibe and was a bit too opaque to keep. I'm putting it in the back pocket for later
Just bought and I love it ❤
Right on! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for sharing the love
Sorry, but your hat is getting in the way when you lean forward.
looks interesting, is there midi mapping in this application?
Do you mean controlling Prism with external MIDI or controlling an instrument with MIDI CC from Prism? Well, i guess either way not for the initial release. But both of these are on top of the coming soon list.
I think using the 16 pads for specific functions, will remove the ability for actually playing the pads while using those functions. I guess this is a step sequence approach instead of a more realtime play/record approach.
Hey, you're correct in theory but I'm curious what functions you're looking to play that are currently there while also playing notes? If you do have some specifics for today where you're like I want to do "X and Y" at the same time, let me know, and I can try to work it out. Otherwise, I ask because I've tried to separate the sequencer, which includes play and record, from the idea of live performance (some sort of remixing or fx application that influences what you play and the playback of the recording, similar to the teenage engineering step sequencers). This first release is all about making the best possible step sequencer (limited to midi notes). Next, I'll start adding layers. There will be a CC layer, a song layer, a MIDI Control layer, a step FX layer, and a performance layer. All the fun live performance stuff will come then, and it's already being drafted to work within the limitations of the current layout... fingers crossed :)
I hope for midi cc recording playback in a future version. Some rotary knobs that send cc out. A relative encoder for scrolling through values. Next/prev buttons instead touch and swipe. Which are great gestures but less for more precise selection when the list of options is long. Anyways. Awesome first release.
Hell yeah to MIDI CC!! I've got majoooor plans here. I'd love to hear more about the next/prev buttons idea? Which paramaters / where in the interface are you feeling the thirst for them? It'll help me with future design
Hey, giving a heads up that I've been thinking of the next/prev. I'm still working on a design idea for previous but if you tap a paramater it will increment forward now for more precise control. Hope it helps.
🙏One tiny request for your next update a prompt for snapshot load in case someone accidentally clicks it. It really close to the settings button. 🙏
That'd be a horribly frustrating way to lose your work. Consider it done!
Find this added in the latest update :)
We need a randomizer that could speed up the workflow. Then one could go back and make adjustments if they wanted too.
I like it! I just added some basic arp step randomization in the beta environment. It'll be included in the next update. Also as a side note, there will eventually be a dedicated "major feature" release that integrates randomization as a deeper more intrinsic concept in the workflow. For now though I've included pockets or randomization as areas to test and expand the implementation. All that's to say, as you play with the random factors and if you have ideas shoot them my way, there's a lot of room for growth here.
Arp Step Randomizer is added in the latest update. See Arp->'keypad options' (bottom circle cyclone button) -> keypad with the dice
Alright then. Lemme go ahead and pick this up real quick
"No standalone, yet" Planned? :) Having lots of fun learning, thank you!!
It's on the board but a bit far down in terms of priority
@@A_Mortal_Mage not a large concern, but just a nice to have! congrats on your launch!
One thing that I couldn’t get was Koala to work.
Something may be up with the koala configs that isn't aligning with the default profile. It has been tested extensively with Koala though and is working on my end. If you send me a video or give a description of what you're looking to do I'm sure we can get it working.
I grabbed it because I like where you’re going with this.
Thank you! And hell yeah! Prism still has sooo much room to grow (not to say it isn't already packed with capabilities). Let me know if you have ideas. I'm always looking for more inspo
@@A_Mortal_Mage first thing out the gate is the need for an Undo Button. People new to this idea of workflow will want to undo to fix mistakes they have no clue on.
@@bjamminsincebirth3494 Hey, you have a access to some pseudo undo functionality on this. You can either use the snapshot feature to save and reload a place (the camera and the picture icon) or you can use the checkpoint autosave. If you look at the picture icon at the top you'll see it change colors when you switch states or tracks, that is an autosave. Long press the picture (load snapshot) button to go back to the checkpoint save. Think of it like in a video game when you get a savepoint at the entrance to a cave or level. Hope that makes sense
Watching these videos now, trying to wrap my head around how to use this. You’ve got a lot of functionality baked into this thing!
Oh Yeah, and it's setup to hold a lot more. Hopefully you've found some of the later beta updates to surface the functionality in a more intuitive way. Let me know if you have any questions as you learn.
Trying to find this thing on App Store . No one else on TH-cam is showing this so I’m curious when it’s available
Hey, I release it last night if you want to check it out - apps.apple.com/gb/app/prism-midi-sequencer/id6502302630
What does the horizontal slider do in the trig editor
The top one with the grey lines nudges the timing of the trig forward and back, offsetting it from the quantized grid. The slider below it adjusts the velocity and length of the trig.
@@A_Mortal_Mage ahhh great thanks
This app is sooo deep. I cannot wait to see how this progesses. I do hope that midi parameters will become exposed in future updates. Bravo and keep groovin’
Too much hat when you're demoing -- it obscures the screen. I have noticed that there is more hat when you are more enthused. ;)
You've got a keen eye. It was difficult to remember talking and not just play half the time
“A little delay back here in the ether…” very entertaining.
This looks like it’s gonna be good

Very nice tutorial. Thank you very much!
Nice man! Thanks!! This app is my solid go-to nowadays. Such a fun app to play with ..
How’s this coming along?
Very nice. Is a "follow chord" option provided for melody or Arp tracks? As with the Woovebox. Thank you!
That and soo much more! Once a relation has been established between two tracks (i.e, track Y will watch the chords from track x) you have all kinds of opportunities to add flare and melodic distinctions, while resting easy knowing whatever you do setup will adjust accordingly whenever the host tracks chords change.
@@A_Mortal_Mage That is awesome!!! Will there be a beta phase via TestFlight? Thank you very much.
@@Francesco-L it’s happening right now! Send me an email at elementalmusictech@gmail.com with your TestFlight email and I can add you
@@A_Mortal_Mage I have sent them an email with my TestFlight email.
This looks amazing! The advanced features sound neat, but I still have to wrap my head around those. But first of all it looks like this has potential to become my go to sequencer for regular midi duties in AUM. The one feature that would complete it for me would be offset note timing. This would open it up to create organic grooves vs robotic ones which is essential in a go to sequencer for me.
Thanks for the love! I completely agree about groove and offsetting. I finished fortifying the time architecture this weekend to be ready for offset, groove, swing, etc... A whole "Groove" update will be one of the first major pushes after launch. It'll be fun!
Very nice. When is the release date?
Thank you! No release date yet. Grinding away at the Beta now. But soon!
Nice man! These videos are super helpful.. such a good piece of gear
Glad to hear it! Thanks for all the continued love
