I feel like he’s better at the light parts than the powerful ones, the build ups are lacking so I didn’t feel that explosive emotion usually expressed in this piece by some other pianists it stayed flat. But I loved the light softer parts very beautiful and cleaner than most I’ve heard
Why do they all skip the arpeggio which would be played at about 9:50? I realize that it is optional, and the only pianist whom I have seen play this part is Van Cliburn.
Magnificent Pianist....One Of The Very Greatest MEPHISTOS EVER Recorded ....SHISHKIN should win every competition but he has a MAJOR flaw...the visual movement of his mouth detracts TREMENDOUSLY from his Horowitzian Talent . It could ruin a great career ...AND IT IS VERY DISRESPECTFUL NOT TO WEAR A TIE 📣📣📣📣..fortunately these can easily be fixed !!……… I was lucky to have been a friend of Vladimir Horowitz back in my Juilliard Masters days in the 1970s.....and he would have raved for your wonderful Playing !!!!!!!!
a gifted performance. I was spoiled by Rubenstein's interpretation and for years shunned the faster tempo of this song. It always felt rushed and even a bit showy. You definitely lose something when playing at the higher tempo, but over those years I've come to appreciate them much more, especially when done so well like in this example.
I have played this piece from 1977, and I have heard many professional pianists play it. But this performance is by far the best l have heard. This may be a legendary performance for many years to come.
Each time I open a Mephisto TH-cam performance by a gifted pianist, there are always these kinds of comments: " the best performance ever". THERE IS NO BEST PERFORMANCE EVER. EACH GREAT INTERPRETATION IS VALUABLE. DIVERSITY IS GREAT!!!
Haha so true. There is no best performance except: Kissin in Prokofiev Etude op 4 no 3. Pompa Baldi Prokofiev Etude op 4 no 1. Kissin Balakirev The Lark and others
It do sound a lot more staccato-esque and I quite like but still some mistakes which makes me wonder how exatcly this is so extravagant to others. Curious only no hate
so pushing and haste. has powerful energy and force but he didn't wait flow.. like berezovsky who rushing more than shishkin. i respect his perform but can't agree his music.
I don't mean to be a classical music elitist, and I know you mean well. However, it is quite rude to interpret the composer's ideas so bluntly. It is their music, but each performer plays differently. They all play so well, but there is not, in essence, an 'exact' way to perform! That is disrespectful to the composer.
@@fushifushi9441 I only meant what I said as an opinion, because the way I would interpret is the same way Shishkin interprets it. TH-cam is a media platform where we are allowed to give our opinions freely. I do see what you’re saying, nonetheless. If I was in a circle of Liszt savants, I wouldn’t have spoken this way.

Woaaaah! This is the best interpretation!❤❤❤❤
7:55 is inhumane

Damn the speed tho 😅
True artist.
By far my favorite performance, he even had time to scratch his nose at 8:35 Man I love this video, thanks for uploading it!
It sounds a tiny bit too rushed in some sections... good performance overall though!
Complimenti grandissimi!!!
this is the best performance of this piece no doubt

Fantastic performance. When I first heard the audio I thought it Khatia Buniatishvilli
This guy plays a lot clearer than her
How come the whole pianistic world doesn't know this brilliant pianist?!
Ask Vlad.
I prefer much more the new generation of pianists like Shishkin, Kobayashi rather than Horowitz or Rubinstein
Bravissimo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Omg! Thank you for uploading this performance! I was wondering when I couldn't find this exact performance by Shishkin.
Breathtaking performance. Ouf! Wow! OMG! And such sensuous lips ❤
Veramente Mephisto! Fenomenale!
WOW!!!!!! Who is this!!!! Liszt reincarnated.
Ur a god for reuploading this
Thanks
👍👍👍
Quel niveau !
8:32 this harmony!
Power of C major
like his unique interpretation and I'm jealous of his fingers, optimal for piano
Yes! Huge hands, perfect for Rachmaninoff!
And Liszt 🤓
8:15 - 8:37 - that’s exactly how it should be played :) thanks for uploading this! it’s been so long since I’ve listened to this version.
Most important, it gave him enough time to SCRATCH HIS NOSE at 8:38 (the only part where I can tell him to hold my beer!)

@@scorpioxrocky Thank you for the clarification!
sultanov killed this piece....but this is a good recording too
Together with Horowitz and Pletnev
Studeert 48 uur per dag?
My favorite performance of the Mephisto Waltz! Thanks for reuploading.
8:00
Yeah, i think this is the scariest part to be played from the whole score. His speed and accuracy here beyond normal human haha
😐😬😐😬😐😬
The Mephisto Waltz is no match for this man.
Thank you to upload one more time. It was impossible to find it anymore. ❤
Dont try this at home
😂
Rofl.. 😂😂😂😂
