The film of the old Hoover being torn down was taken by Mr. Wilson, the music teacher.
I had Mr. Wilson in Music Appreciation, Concert Girl's Glee, early 1960's. Iconic building --several movies filmed here. Sad!
@@linscrattish2648 I graduated from Hoover in 1965. Although I remember Mr. Wilson, I never had him for a teacher.
my cousin would have graduated early 1950s...Beverly Glassford....anyone remember her?
Damn all this and it’s still not your land
Wow! I saw this I remember the crane etc
Should’ve stayed how it was back then
I went there in 69,70, and 71. Wish they had a wood shop. They had auto shop though. The movie director Ron Underwood went there when I was there. Didn't know him though. I was supposed to go to Glendale High, but they changed the districts right before I went. I thought the people in that part of town were a little stuck up, to use a phrase that is probably passe by now.
No mountain to high.
I was married to easy ed McLean live life
Wow just looking back I am sue Fleming my big brother rich is missing my little brother brother Bob has about two hours to live
i went to hoover in 1996 as a freshman. it was fine i guess, now you drive by, and there are nothing but tall bars lined up every where, its a fucking prison. the pool hasnt changed, still a dump.
Played for Hoover in '76-77. Think we won 4 games. 4 times more than the year before. There was a new coach that year, Jon Huss. He and his staff went to Arroyo Grande a few years later and created a dynasty.
Why was it being replaced? At least there still IS a Hoover High. In my area there are several schools where nothing is left but a memory.
class of 2013, to be honest, only bad thing about this school is armenian guys, their annoying and ignorant as fuck. The girls on the other hand were a PLUS
once a peace of shit school, always one
You can't go home again.....so sad. It was a beautiful school.
Amazing!
Thanks for the memories.
LAME SWEATERS we wore letterman"s jackets.
I think Hoover was a pretty welcoming school. I don't remember being bullied or seeing others getting bullied. And I agree there wasn't much school spirit but maybe that was because of the "times". We were in high school at a pretty challenging time.
correct me if im wrong, but was Hoover ever a typical high school? you know where the head cheerleader dates the quarterback, and the bully takes the point dexter's lunch money and stuffs them in lockers? Just curious because when I went to hoover, it was unlike what I expected, there was no bullying going on and everyone was accepted no matter what you were. But the sad part was that there was no school or class spirit.
@Decimator Omega I am in Toll and people here are stupid. _Not cruel,_ but stupid. They disrespect the teachers and don’t care about grades. But if one person is racist or sexist, the kids who don’t care about school, will turn on them and defend the victim. Also “nerds” are idolized by the kids who technically would classify as “bullies.” In the advanced classes at toll on the other hand, the people are very intelligent; they respect the teachers; and they care about grades. Honestly overall the school is very respectful of people their age, but not to their educators. Yet, these kids are still more politically informed than most adults. (Of course I’m biased on this because I go there, but from what I’ve seen adults just like to yell and scream at each other then get mad when they don’t win, and blame it on someone else.)
I graduated in '75 ...I love this video...the memories of friendship & the Town of Glendale!
I was a deaf student in that Hoover High School in 1989. I wish someone could tell me where my old dream girl with long-do orange hair name Marcia was there, too. God, she had great legs and butt, too.
My Dad, Nick Vestuto, graduated Class of 1944. Then went right into the Navy - WWII.
My brother graduated in 1967. My sis and I in the new building, 1971 and 1974.
Pic at 8:00. That's my current locker!!!
MMC my locker was there too. Back in 1990/1
Great video I loved it. I am class of 2018. Sad to see how Hoover is now filled with gum and literacy
GHS #44 was Jeff King, not Chet Yokohama
I remember sitting in math class at Toll watching the wrecking ball knock down the old Hoover. The next year when I went to Hoover one of the old buildings was still in use and I had an English class there. I remember thinking that I liked to old building better than the new.

I prowled the old science building the day before its destruction was slated to begin and was amazed what had been left in the place. Desks, blackboards, fans, tables, chairs... all good, well-made stuff just being junked. I also found (and took home) some nice lab glassware, a big jar of mercury and another jar full of magnesium shavings; but the prize was a set of artificial wounds made of latex for disaster simulation exercises. I strapped onto my forearm the compound fracture, complete with tubes and a pump for spurting blood, and gave my mother a major trauma. Thanks for the memories! Jim Woodring, Class of '70
So is there really a tale of a ghost lurking the halls at Hoover?...because if there is I can call myself sane now haha.
The old hoover was a beauty and seemed like the gem of the town. One more thing I would like to say is how come they didn't go with the same similar style as the old Hoover as in a indoor building. How come Toll didn't get renovated since it was built a while back ago also.
Would you have any videos on the fields and gyms on the old hoover by any chance? Also the destruction of the old hoover was really (in my opinion) the bad luck that came upon the new Hoover since most kids hate hoover now, they hate the teachers which suck also. The brand new field is the only thing really good about the school now. Heck the people even suck at Hoover.
As someone who is really in favor of the old I just have to say that the "old" hoover was the great hoover, the best hoover. The buildings nowadays just suck. The way the old hoover was built seems more spacious and it took a while to showcase all of it. I get why they did the remodel but I don't get why they didn't do a similar style. The style the current hoover is made on is nonexistent. I haven't seen a school similar to hoover. Surprised that Toll didn't get renovated or demolished.
u can say that again!
Wonderful to see the beautiful old Hoover buildings again -- and sad to see the demolition. And somehow Eleanor J. Toll Jr. High still stands. I wonder if the ghost of Joanna Heideman walks the halls at night.
Vince Prugh spooky
George Novinger was the Boys Vice Principal at Hoover when I went there in 1978...Glad to hear him getting knocked around...
Pretty decent looking football by teams that over the past 20 years or so havent looked that good...My brother was in Class of '69 GHS...
Chester Yokoyama at running back #44 for GHS?
The old buildings were more of a grand, traditional design, but they were not earthquake-resistant. The auditorium was part of the old school and in the 1971 Sylmar quake, it had to be closed for inspection. In fact, have a vague recollection of it remaining closed for sometimes afterwards for repairs, but I could be mistaken.
Toll Jr. High 1966 - 1969 and I still remember the fight song! (I can't remember where I park my car half the time, but somethings I never forget)
We holler EJT, EJT, EJT. With all our NRG, NRG, NRG. We want the folks from near and far, to really know just who we are.Toll, Toll, Toll, Toll, that's the way we yell it! T-O-L-L that's the way we spell it. Fight team, fight team, fight on to win. Fight team, fight team, with all your vim, vi-ta-li-T-O-L-L that's the way we sing it. T-O-L-L that's the way we ring it. C'mon team and give up steam and roll and roll and roll and roll and roll and roll and roll and roll and roll and roll for Toll!
Class of 2010!!!!!
Awesome!
The names in the back of the auditorium are the names of the Stage Managers and the year they were in the position. Mine is up there from my term in 1971.
Yeah, only around 7:56 does it start to resemble the Hoover that I went to. Class of 1987!!!
So were Mr. Wallace and Mr. Wilson the music department at this point??? Steve Wilson '74
I was across the street at Toll watching the new one go up! Started at Hoover in 71 - so missed the old building completely. Looking at the demo - it looked like un-reinforced masonry. Considering the what the quake did just a year or so later to brick houses built in that manner in the neighborhood, we were lucky they replaced it with more modern construction. The new part of the school came through un-touched. The quake almost took out the auditorium! Lost use of it for awhile.
the new hoover looks nothing like how it used to
@ivie6969 well unfortunatley our varsity team didnt play as we expected them to play this year
