The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride DGR 2021
I swapped mine for higher, wider bars from an old BMW K75 RT - a popular mod back in the day (this requires installation of a longer brake line, though, which is a pain.) I found that the stock seat was then not suitable for the more upright riding stance, so sourced a second-hand replacement off Gumtree for $100 which solved the problem of my ass sliding forward and knees pressing on the fairing panels. There are a lot of aftermarket seats available.
I see your new bike has additional body flairs (near where your knees are). Where did you get them? Thanks in advance.
@@robdonald1246 I bought them from a supplier in England (David Silver)10 years ago. To the best of my knowledge, they’re no longer available. You may have luck on eBay. They are much sought after, as well as the mirror deflectors.
A friend of mine has custom molded earphones and he likes them a lot.
I have a Packtalk Edge and have a challenge hearing my buddies clearly at speed. I don't have hearing aids yet, but probably will get them soon. Can you hear others speaking to you clearly enough through your Bold speakers at speed, or do you use your hearing aids for that? Thank you very much for making this video. I'm eager to learn how I can improve my comm experience.
I wear my hearing aids when I ride. They automatically cut out most of the wind noise. I sometimes nest the unit int shell of my ear so the microphone of the hearing aid is near the speaker ( making sure the volume on the Cardo is turned down) I always bend my head forward whilst taking off my helmet, my helmet becomes a bucket to catch my hearing aid in the event it gets dislodged from my ear it falls into the helmet so I don’t lose it.
Red (& no Green) Hee hee I am going start watching this Series of yours. I wanted to send you a message, so I am starting out by watching Episode 1 here on my Latop, while at work. However, I prefer to watch a Series using my big screen TV (where I cannot send comments or messages)
Thank you for stating one of the most important factors in a long hauler: fuel range!! It’s hard to chew up miles with anything that can’t make at least 200mi per tank. The 300mi mark would be a dream.
got a 98 on the way today .. hope its a good bike .
The post 96. Meaning 96-2002 are the desirable units. Change all the fluids, check the connector to the main relay and you should be good to go. Congratulations
Thanks for taking the time to make this content. Im considering getting on of these units and being able to do this aspect is make or break. For me the most important detail is the place to store the routes. Can you provide a complete path name for the route KML files? I didnt find your series of sceenshots definative. Can you show the path something like D:/Userdata/NA/content/whatever/routes..... Thanks for your help.
You will need to create some folders. In the PRIMO Directory look for the CONTENT folder, click on that so it expands. There you will need to create a new folder, label it USERDATA once that is done click it to expand and create a folder called ROUTE. It is here where you will copy your kml files
@@yaitsred thank you. Primo/Content/Userdata/Route/*.KML I have been considering purchasing so I will give one a try. I did question one eBay supplier and they indicated that the units were not capable of accepting GPX or KML files. I guess they are shopkeepers not users. Thanks again from Aust.
@@muzzkeg8172 just a heads up. There are two versions of FodSpots. One is Windows based, DON’T buy that unit. Buy the non windows based. They operate differently. I’ve had a lot of success using “My Google Maps” for plotting routes. I also found it best to break the route into segments. My first segment might be my first coffee spot or fuel stop of the day, then the afternoon portion. When you stop you then load the next segment. This is how I prevent the odd systems failure, and have had to stop to reboot. I also have a backup micro card just in case the card goes bad. Overall I’ve been really happy with them and are a good unit for the price point. Good luck
@@yaitsred huh, yes got that impression about differing types. Questioned another eBay supplier as they had multiple listings and some showed a slightly different user manual, that being the only difference in the listing. Manuals were for an MG40 and another shows Android SD. No response from the seller. Figured that must mean something but the supplier has not responded.
@@yaitsred I also use Google Maps to do routes. Quite good tool
I'm trying to send a route to the GPS system from my phone which has Google Maps on it
I haven’t had that work for me. Having said that, if you have an iPhone and micro disk adapter you can save the the file.via the files app then put the micro card back into the gps. On a laptop using My google maps ( you need a google account for this). You can plot out a route then save the file to a kml file and transfer to your gps.
Do you know if there is a way to stop the unit going to the GPS speed. Mine shuts off the maps until you are nearly at an intersection. I would like it to display the maps all the time.
That’s not a setting I’m familiar with, mine displays maps all the time. I will have a look and get back to you
Dobrý den,kde se dají sehnat ty vypínače výstražného blikání a přídavných světel? Máte to pěkně zakomponované v tom levém plastu. Díky Frydl

Love following you and Jim’s videos.
Thank you. Jim does some fine work. I will get back in the game a little later in the season
@@yaitsred looking forward to your travels.
hey been a month?? how did the rest of the trip go ??
Yes it has, sorry. Work has taken me away and it will be another month before I can get back to editing, I’m in Winnipeg. ;)
Good video thanks for sharing very interesting enjoyed watching take care have a great weekend
hello guy , i also tried to put my route on the gps , but impossible; I made a trip on kurviger...I transcribed it into KML..(i tried the 3 KML solutions (google earth 5, IGO8, Google earth 4) all in kml. i put the trips on my office ( i even tried to create a folder top put them on the sd card....but then when i put the map on the gps , the gps does not recognize routes or folders ?? I can't import trips, do you think i forgot something ?? thank you !! fabien
I guess I’ve got some riding to do on mine! It’s only got 13,000 miles on it…
It can happen quickly. ;). Sometimes you don’t want to get off, you just ride and ride.
Fantastic Winter weather for maintenance. That trip home was a marathon! Amazing.
The opportunity arose and I took advantage of it. ;). The bike is comfortable, and that’s what makes the long hours in the saddle doable.
Again, you have a knack of matching video with soundtrack! Thx for the experience.
Great post and soundtrack adds to the experience. Kudos!
Good to watch your wrap-up about your ride home. Always enjoy watching a little maintenance as well.
Thank you. It just seemed to be the thing to do. +14°C just decided to take advantage of a warm day in the middle of Winter ;)
Why on earth would any right thinking person use Shell oil in a ST1100❓ 😉 We will have to see if TH-cam is a harbinger for oil threads. Seriously enjoyed watching the series and appreciate the effort that went into making it. See you on the road in ‘23 Gerhard
Maybe I’m a left thinking person. ;). Thanks Gerhard, always enjoy your company.
I certainly emjoyed putting the ride together. Get a whole new perspective looking at the province through other eyes. First time I have toured with this many other riders. Maybe do it again in a couple of years.
Your vision of Rolling ROCKSTOC enabled me to see the province In a more detailed way, and for that I thank you.
Great video Robert really enjoyed the ride awesome scenery and thanks for the history lesson you take care and have a great weekend
Well done. I was born in St. Mary's Bay, just off the Irish Loop. It was nice to watch your video and see all the places that I have not seen for years. This might be the summer to take my "Farewell Ride". Yes, I think I will make it happen. Thanks for posting the video. Larry.
Pleased you enjoyed it. It was a good day,and we got to experience all sorts of weather that day. Hopefully you’ll be able to get that “Farewell Ride” in.
Another good episode, I will have to watch it again sometime as I viewed it so soon after your upload it was only available in 360p 😢.
It was taking a long time to process the HD version. The 360sucks.
nice that you had the lens protector
Yes. I bought them together with the camera, you loose a bit of quality but worth it.
Love your Harbour Grace drone shots. Still slightly behind in editing lol. I don't think it was all the GPS fault, I believe I was premature on a turn and might have been trown off by a one-way sign. Just a little adventure.
Yes but the GPS couldn’t correct us because we were too close to the other road. All said and done it was still a good day. ;)
Thanks Robert that was great sorry about the weather and the camera but things happen I guess great scenery and and history lesson enjoyed watching take care have a great weekend
Thanks for some more beautiful aerial videography. Too bad about the weather and mishaps. It looks like better weather in St. John's.
Thanks for the video. I left Newfoundland at the age of 17. After several trips to Labrador City, I finally settled in Ontario in the year of 1985. The Island will always be home to me but I sure don't miss that fog. Hope you still have more video clips to share. Stay safe, Larry.
Thank you. The fog sure does create problems. At times I did enjoy watching it roll in from the sea. Riding in it and the drone in temperature had some challenges. Being in Ontario is OK, but I prefer northern Ontario as it is nicer to ride around Huron and Superior. ;)
Thanks Robert for taking us along enjoyed the video have a great evening take care
We only got a little lost but it was a good lost. One of these years I will see the whole Burin....have always hit RDF rain, drizzle, fog.
I don’t think we were lost we’re exploring! ;)
Fantastic video! Excellent work. Glad I got to see it this way. With the massive tourist traffic for the ferry, the potholes and now 2 well-known moto-vloggers having done it, it's not as appealing for the effort. Will keep searching for the less-traveled.
I think it’s worth doing, the cameras just don’t do it justice
Thanks for the mention! I wish I was back riding the rock!
It was a great time exploring, we shall all have to back there sooner than later. ;)
@@yaitsred Yes! What trip are you planning for summer 2023?
@@vespa4265 I may have to stay local, meaning doing another run in Northern Ontario in the Great Lakes area, and there is a motorcycle meet in Ohioin June. I might take a roundabout way of getting there by taking the Blue Ridge Parkway and meandering through Kentucky. What about yourself? Gaspè?
@yaitsred Local can be good! Lots of options in Northern ON. Ohio in the summer would be a fun trip! Yes might do costal New Brunswick/Quebec. Definitely some shorter trips in Nova Scotia. Happy planning!
Hi Robert. Great video indeed. We could hear the emotion in your voice. Emotional music too. Great landscape. Thanks to share. It makes me want to go there too, one day. ChriSTian_64
Thanks ChriSTian_64. I’m sure you will be able to get there someday, in the meantime there are lots of areas to explore in your backyard! I really enjoyed traveling in your province

Thanks for subscribing, nice to have you along for the ride. Cheers
Good video Robert thanks so much for sharing enjoyed watching beautiful scenery see you on the next one take care
Thank you
Absolutely wonderful views from your drone flights. Thank you, I have never been there.
It was spectacular, there were a lot of things to see
Great to see this. Wasn't sure what you guys got up to while I was dealing with brake pads and trailer hitch.
Somehow we managed to find something to do. ;)
@@yaitsred You sure did.
Some nice views and a little history. Very nice and thanks for putting the drone up for us. Take care
Thank you. Great camera work. The west coast of Newfoundland in so spectacular. Too bad about the weather, and your speedo.
I was bummed out about the speedo, it was just one of those things
@@yaitsred I would have been as well. Frustrating.
Great video Robert! It was a fabulous day for touring the Island. Thank you for including me !
It was a pleasure, I enjoyed your company.
I was going to ask what your drone was but you answered it at the end haha. I have the macvric first one
I had a mavic mini, but found out that any winds above 12kms/h made it hard to fly. The Mavic Air 2 handles wind better, but then I had to get the pilots license for it. ;)
very nice. but like you said I think it is a hard place to live in the winter months.
Thanks Robert great video enjoyed watching thanks for taking us along take care have a great weekend
So glad you got all that great drone footage on Fogo. I had trouble with my SD card and lost just about everything. Loved watching this.
That’s too bad about the card, I was looking forward to seeing your footage.
the drone view was awesome. Sorry about your sd card
The Rock is beautiful. Terrific views of the spectacular coast line. Beautiful video graphics. You are an incredible all weather biker and camper! Another 3 or 400,000 left in that bike 👍
