Steal Like an Artist by Austen Kleon. I loved this little book. It's central message is that art is all about how artist are just professional theives. They take things from various other artist and influences and peace them together into their own Frankenstein monsters that is technically their own original with but it's all stolen components. I loved that. I agree 1000 percent, there's nothin...

This Manga Will Make You Cry (Orange Series Review)

There's 1001 reason you should stick around. I'm not sure if I'd categorize Oranga as Seinan or Shojo. But let me say this. This manga is for everybody. The series follows high schoolgirl Naho Takamiya, who receives a letter written by herself ten years in the future. Nahos future self is begging her younger self to prevent her "biggest regret". She is tasked with keeping an eye on Kakeru Narus...

What is history? The simple answers is history is what has happened in the past. But it's more complicated than that. Because history isn't just what has happened, it's what is recorded to have happened. All events that are remembered and preserved in some authentic form constitute the historical record. Because we can't know for certain what has happened in the past because we weren't there. W...

Glad you liked blood on the tracks, very sinister for a manga
a man of improvisation 😂
Jab looking solid 😎
Thanks homie 😎
I went ahead and ordered Blackwater today because of your last couple videos, seems right up my alley.
@@davidflynn3771 It's slow! But it's about the characters playing social politics while there's some cosmic horror as a backdrop. I'm loving it and I hope you like it just as much. 😎
If you haven't already, Berserk is an incredible manga if you can get to it. Super dark though, so just be prepared.
I'm excited to give berserk a go soon. Especially because it's no longer on hiatus
Love it, keep the values/virtues coming
😎 I think it's gonna be a permanent feature
Randomly got recommended this video by the algorithm. Blood on the Tracks is a manga I read a long time ago, I was there when it finished not too long ago and it was a hard read. One of the most emotionally taxing stories I've read. Don't think I can read it again, child abuse stories really screw with my head. Loved hearing your thoughts! Every family has some pretty crazy stories.
All hail the algorithm! Haha Child abuse stories are hard. Usually there's some hopeful message hidden under the trauma but Blood on the Tracks never has a high point. Very taxing story indeed. Thanks for stopping by!!!
Ok Denzel 😂
😂
I really enjoy these Jordan. Looking forward to future vids after seeing how you are trying to structure and improve the quality of your content. What you said about modern family respect really hits home, I wouldn't mind hearing more of your thoughts.
I'm glad you liked it! I'm getting better at the video editing. My computer is a bucket so it's hard to use enough editing magic but I'm trying to make One improvement every week! I'll get there eventually haha The modern family is in shambles 😪
You could read the manga Holyland, maybe you can relate
Hmmmm A street fighting manga might be interesting 🤔
Blood On The Tracks is a really good manga! Kinda twisted how you pick that based on the theme 😂
You google "family drama manga" and you get some interesting results 🤣😂
I’ve been an MMA fan of yours for a couple of years and I was SHOCKED when I recognized you! Stumbled across your review of The Pariah this morning haha. So cool to see a UFC fighter with a book channel. Also, I read Malice a few weeks ago and totally agree. I was hesitant through the first half but it really picked up towards the end.
Hahaha Welcome homie! Yeah, I kinda keep this channel low key. It's really fun when people find my booktube channel. I gotta get better at mentioning it.
For manga (some of them short) th-cam.com/video/TC6G4cJRHX8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QVxllFQbm7SjnOUA
Enjoyed the video brotha! Happy 4th!! Also I got some novels and manga suggestions if you’re ever down to try somethin new!!
@@nolanj3000 Happy 4th! Heck yeah man, I'm all ears. Whatcha recommend?
@@JordanReadsandThinksThings I typically read a lot of classic literature and philosophical fiction, although I enjoy reading a lot of manga and other types of fiction as well! Idk if you’ve ever read anything by Junji Ito, but he has a lot of one shots/short stories that I’ve enjoyed reading. They typically have elements of horror involved and make for some unsettling surreal situations. Highly recommend him if you enjoy horror in any capacity. Also another one shot you can check out is solanin. I started it and don’t really have any thoughts about it yet if I’m being honest. Also I recently finished a novella called, “the sailor who fell from grace with the sea” by Yukio Mishima. The author himself has an interesting story and the book gives you a lot to think about. The first chapter is a bit.. interesting however the book is great imo. Just some suggestions tho. If none of them sound interesting to you then that’s chill! I enjoy the videos man keep it up!
For Manga, there are some android specific apps like tachiyomi / mihon that are probably worth looking into, the reading experience on them is nice and they aggregate a bunch of sources that you can choose from and get whatever you need through there. There are desktop versions of these apps (e.g., Tachidesk), but just using the site directly is almost always fine and viruses are unlikely.
Have you ever read the MHA manga series?
My Hero Academia? I haven't tried it yet but it's on the list
@@JordanReadsandThinksThings yeah it's so good. I bought 30 volumes of the manga so far, I'm really enjoying it but my bank account isnt 😂
Malice is the worst book in the series, it gets really damn good!! Glad you stuck it out!!
I can't wait to continue on with the series next month 🙌 Thanks for the cheerleader throughout the reading experience haha
How do you feel about another mixed race fruity but not actually 🌈 fighter in the UFC . Don’t get too many of those …
Don't worry, Malice gets much better!
Nice dance moves monkey 🐒👑
I just want to say about demographic that shojo always had deep, dark and philosophical subject. It's not because Orange is like this that girls can"t read it and it's aimed to, not even adult women (josei) but adult men (seinen). But I know that with years of western editors changing the demographic to fit with gender stereotype this idea still have years to live. That aside, Orange is my (second) favorite shojo. It's my best friend who made me try it and as my mental health degraded with years, it became more and more important to me. I advice you to never touch upon the fandom though, because all they remember from it is that their otp isn't canon. Stupid fangirls gotta be stupid. Kakeru Naruse is one of my favorite male characters for how real his struggle is. What matter the most in this story is that, friendship. Even if there's romance, Kakeru isn't saved by a vain "I can fix him", his relationship with Naho is unique but the ones he have with each of them is too, it's why Kakeru's letter in the future say. The ending was beautifufl, especially about how if he keep walking, going through, one day, Kakeru will see "Haru". Walking through the snow how misery just for "Haru" to appear. Spring. For Spring to come. Thanks for talking about this manga and understanding it even if I wish you didn't have to go through pain to do so.
Thank you so for much for all the info. I'm a manga newbie and it's cool to learn some stuff about the industry. You said Orange is your second favorite? I'm interested it other manga you'd recommend. I loved the ending. It was definitely worth the pain. I do wish we got more interactions with Kakeru and the other friends in the squad though.
@@JordanReadsandThinksThings I'll be happy to recommend more in shojo! My ultimate favorite is the duology QQ sweeper/Queen Quality that also talk about mental health, even if it take a dark fantasy take about it. The youtuber colleen do a good presentation of it. In other good shojo that take a mature turn you have Nana. Fruits Basket and Natsume Yuujinchou both talk about healing of a traumatic and isolated childhood though both take the subject differently. Both are animated so you're lucky! When I feel bad I like to revisit the story through pictures and quotes and even reread some part. For the other interaction, the 7th volume of the manga focus on Kakeru and the friendship but I admit that I wanted to see more interactions with them too. They're all very distinct and lovely. I believe some stories can really help to make you feel less alone because it show that something you felt was so strong in the heart of someone else that they tailored a story about it.
Is thisJordan Leavitt with the ass swanging hips?!? You the man mate. Get after that W.
😂😂
1:17 this Panel hits hard YOU CAN TELL ME. *EVERYTHING* many People need to hear it.
For real though, Most people never get to free those dark thoughts from their own heads. Finding people you can confude in is paramount.
Nice vid! Not im a video editor but would you like some help with the images in video.
Nice video :)
🥲
This is easily the most insightful review of FUMES I’ve come across. Thank you for reading the story so attentively. Seeing this made my day.
Thanks for more interesting content Jordan.
Looking forward to seeing you in the octagon again Jordan, any movement on that front?
I can't wait any longer! Lol It's probably looking like August-September 😅 It's been a while but I had to decline a fight because of a ruptured eardrum so that's just the way the cookie crumbles 🤔
I just finished The Stand, I chipped away at it everyday for a month. Really awesome character driven book. The amount of people to keep track of was a little overwhelming, but just take your time, get to know them, and enjoy how everything plays out. Also The Stand is split in 3 parts called Book One, Two, and Three, if that makes it feel less daunting.
This is how I'm going to have to tackle it. I usually read books in sprints and you just can't do that with The Stand lololol
The Sword of Kaigan is fantastic! I can almost guarantee you'll love it!
I've literally only heard good things about it! I'm pumped 😎
The list sounds good - I made a note of a couple of them for my own TBR list (Fevre Dream, Southern Book Club, and Blackwater). My only advice is sure to raise a few hackles here, but The Stand is Stephen King's book of tropes. I loved it when published (I was on the cusp of adulthood, but not quite there yet). I've never been able to reread it, it's too cringe. I'd suggest passing on it unless you have nothing else interesting to read. Like maybe your dismissed Swan Song
You're not the first person who's told me that! I know some Constant Readers who don't care for The Stand. I think if I'm not feeling it this time around I'll just drop it and dive into Swan Song instead lol
I give the Stand and Swan Song both 3 out of 5 stars . Aka both decent but definitly overrated, for my taste and enjoyment anyway
Cool book shelf
uhm jordan whats that mouse pad?🤣
It feels good on my wrist 🤭🤫😂
I just started and caught up on Chainsaw Man and everyone recommended Fire Punch, so I will be starting that tonight. I've yet to dive into anything Stephen King but I think you are making me take the leap.
Hell yeah! If you end up liking Fire Punch I think you'll really like King's Dark Tower series. Both are strange and unique and ambitious.
i never thought i see a free feet cam from jordan
😂😂😂
thanks for the review. I have this book on my shelf. But I haven't read it yet. Moving it up on my TBR. I saw it in my local bookstore and it called to me. The cover and the description. But I was unaware it was connected the Arthurian fantasy. That's a plus for me
Dude check out the Warhammer series Gotrek and Felix, simply a must read! Enjoy 😊
Not Aurthurian but is close enough
I've been interested in checking out Warhammer for some time! It's got a very vocal fandom but I never see anything on YT about it. I think I may give it a try 🤔
You are awesome
💚💙💜
Great match against the B Team lad… that sloped pit wall seems like an interesting idea.
It's a really cool setup! And the VIBE was amazing. Hopefully that's have me back. I had fun
Arthurian novel recommendations. I assume you're leaning towards adaptations that take some liberties, similar to the one you just reviewed. For that, I would recommend The Warlord Chronicles trilogy (The Winter King, Enemy of God, Excalibur) by Bernard Cornwell. And I also recommend "The Squire's Tale" series by Gerald Morris.
I'm copying this list right now, thank you
Cornwell is a amazing from what I hear! I'll definitely be diving into that series soon. Haven't heard of "The Squire's Tale" though. I'll have to check it out
I met Neal Shusterman the other week and he was everything and so much more than I expected!
Happy Belated Birthday Jordan! 29 was a hard year for me. I grieved my 20s before I even turned 30. Love the positive attitude. Best wishes for your 30th year...
Thanks! I feel like since I've been doing the same thing since I was 15 I have trouble feeling like I'm growing up really. Lol I just fight and read. 30 is a milestone I'm excited for.
read berserk, it's amazing. best story i've ever read
I hear that a lot. I am hesitant to give it a try because the author hasn't finished it yet though. I hate waiting lol 😆
@@JordanReadsandThinksThings i see, hopefully in about 10 years time it will be complete but the hiatuses can be frustrating. it's made worse by the original author's passing, but it's in good hands as his assisting team and best friend have taken it on
Super excited to see what you think about Malice! I devoured the series, hope you enjoy it as well.
I have been reading the manga series, Deathnote and I really like it. I like your dog. I need to get back into Terry Pratchett.
I'm currently reading Death Note! Lol I should be done sometime next month. Yeah, George is a good dog 🐕
I agree completely with the short stories point of view! Give me a beginning, middle, and end with a point of view and something to say and leave me on my way. They tend to be very memorable. Anything that's an anthology generally fits that bill. It's why I loved watching the twilight zone series
One shot-ish, there was a short comic book series called Daytripper that I used to love growing up. I think it's 10/12 issues, but each issue is sort of like an anthology. You might enjoy it!
I couldn't agree more with the assessment of self help type books. Same with the Glen Garry Glen Ross salesman books, it's all the same stuff repackaged.
Hello Jordan! Have you been able to read at the speed of light since a child/teen or is it an intentionally acquired skill?
I actually was a very slow reader until a few years ago. I think it took me some time to even reach a good level of reading comprehension. I think speed comes after that. It's definitely a mental muscle people can build.
@@JordanReadsandThinksThings Thank you for your reply!!
Now do Akira. You'll never see Manga the same way again my friend.
