Yamaha SRX600 : Troubleshooting RPM surge and air intake leaks
This video shows the effect of air intake leaks on engine RPM on a SRX600. RPM's tend to surge when a leak is present, making the bike difficult to handle. Air leaks should be solved as soon as possible because air leaks result in the the A/F mixture to lean out. An overly lean mixture results in a much hotter combustion and potentially damages the engine. The video shows how to identify, isolate and resolve a problems with the intake.

Fixing a destroyed gearbox on a 1986 Yamaha SRX600. 5th gear was completely gone and had to be replaced. The original 5th gear pair is no longer available so i changed to a different ratio as used on later XT models. The video shows how to install the new gears on the shaft as well as how to assemble the gearbox shafts again

Part 5 and final part is about Cleaning up the clutch cover, replacing the check valve, oil change and first startup. The video also shows the before and after situation. The engine knock is gone now. The engine had a severe knocking sound which was caused by the clutch boss nut and primary drive nut coming loose. Part 4 shows the clutch rebuild and re-adjustment. The engine had a severe knocking sound which was caused by the clutch boss nut and primary drive nut coming loose. Replacement parts were ordered and primary drive and Clutch were rebuild. Part 5 will follow shortly with first startup and the difference this repair made. Meanwhile the SRX is on the road and has done about 200Km without problems

The Red SRX had a severe engine knock sound. I thought it was a Big End failure but it turned out the clutch boss and primary drive nut coming loose of their shafts. New Parts were ordered to fix the primary drive, Oilpump and Clutch. In Part 3 You will see the rebuild of the primary drive and oilpump. Part 4 will follow shortly showing the clutch rebuild and first startup again.

Trying to find the source of a pretty loud knocking sound on my red 1986 Yamaha SRX600. First thoughts were a Big End failure, however things are not always as they seem. I took off the clutch cover for inspection and found a few 'issues'. If this is it, it won't be too expensive to fix.

Looks like, or better, sounds like something bad happened to the red SRX. It has 51.000 km on the clock and i already knew it was due for a top end overhaul. As of recent the engine started to "knock" and running rough. Will open it up shortly to see what's up. Bad news i'm afraid....

This 30 min video shows the restoration and rebuild of my 1986 Yamaha SRX600 over a period of 3 years. The bike was more like a wreck when i got it. I restored and rebuild it from the ground up.
