    Whenever they say billionaires don't pay their fair share they only cite their income tax rate. If you look up the data on where total tax revenue comes from, the only group that pays more than their share is the top 20%. Easier to be a hater than to look it up I suppose.

  • @MatthewNJDavis
    @MatthewNJDavis หลายเดือนก่อน

    I always wonder what "fair share" means when it comes to taxes. Personally, I'd rather we all paid less tax, and I'm sure governments could cut spending without negatively affecting us substantially, quite easily, if the desire was there. Therefore, once somebody becomes a net contributor (pays more in than they receive out), is that not enough? Moreover, if somebody is responsible for other people having a livelihood, should we take into consideration tax revenue generated by that, too? Or sales tax, perhaps? And, naturally, governments don't tend to create value providing livelihoods, but instead simply redistribute what is already there. So, I suppose you could say that governments taking money by threat of force to pay for things people don't want to support should instead be taxed, and provided to people who are providing a service of value as shown by people voluntarily choosing to use their money in that way. I've only just thought of that bit, though, so don't read too far into it, as it isn't very well thought out.

    This is interesting but that also means that when mom and pop takes out a home equity line of credit which is backed by the house because they want to renovate their house they should also get taxed? Or when Joe the carpenter does a cash out refinance deal to buy his 1st rental property he should pay this tax too? Meaning this would impact more than just the 0.01%. Tax legislature has impact on everyone unless it is specified as to exactly what the tax is levied upon.

      It’s sufficient to put a progressive taxation with a no tax-zone for lower net worths to protect middle or low class. Like here in Italy there is no estate tax when you receive an inheritance if it is less than €1M, so normal people don’t pay it but rich people do

    @baileym4708 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The reality is the rich pay most of the income tax year in and year out for the country. Nobody wants to hear that for some reason. Lets start, approximately 50% of the 320 million citizens do not pay taxes. That leaves the entire tax burden on a little more than half the citizens. Last year for example Elon Musk paid 11 billion in taxes. Now the percentage of the rich isn't aligning with the percentage of the middle class, that is true. Yet the fact that the 2.6 trillion collected in tax annually by the US government, the 1% pay half of that total for the remaining 99% is amazing. Imagine, without them, all your tax funded programs would collapse. Finding a solution so that tax burdens are more equal is something to look at yet to vilify those supporting the system just is an entitled and ungrateful position. Also, taxing debt would crush the middle class.

    • @OfficialFunwithFinance
      @OfficialFunwithFinance หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting thoughts, thanks! The idea here is to tax borrowing secured by assets. Middle class usually does not do this; they don't own enough assets. So, the proposal does not include mortgages or personal loans.

    • @OfficialFunwithFinance
      @OfficialFunwithFinance หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you liked it! Common people usually don't have so much assets to use debt in the same way as billionaires do. Even if they get such loans, they're for specific goals like home renovation or starting a business. Imagine an ordinary person gets a line of credit loan for business purposes, such as purchasing equipment or inventory. They have to pay a higher interest than Larry Ellison paid on his Hawaiian island loan to start with. They pay their income or corporate tax and then the interest paid on the loan may be deducted.

    • @jamespickering7975
      @jamespickering7975 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Common people don't have the assets required to get those types of loans, so the only forseeable effect on the the common people would be a better-funded government and a smaller level of wealth disparity.

      @anantsinha9637 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I think there should be a minimum cap of such a loan. A $5 million loan, shouldn't require tax. Then that makes me wonder, if billionaires will just take several $4.9 million loans. If you tie it to an individual, they'll prob make trusts take these loans or something else : \
