Deer Management in the Cincinnati Area | #CincyParks
Deer management is vital to keeping our forests healthy and thriving for trees, native plants, wildlife and us.
Parks' controlled bow hunting program has become very popular and well established with an exemplary safety record. Each season helps to improve upon the next. The program is based on the recommendations of the Ohio state wildlife officers and years of field observation by Parks staff and outside experts.
Without proactive measures to control these environments our forests would eventually lack large established trees that serve as a foundation for native plants and wildlife to flourish. This is why similar programs operate in parks systems throughout the country, including the US National Parks, Ohio State Parks and Great Parks.

    I love walking in Eden Park. There are so many areas to appreciate. The landscaping is amazing and I've had multiple opportunities to talk with Jeni and learn about the plants that catch my eye. She's always willing to stop what she doing to give me info about not only plants but the history of so many areas and buildings in the park. I wish there were tours of the many interesting and historical sites in the park with the added information about all the trees and plants that make Eden Park so beautiful! Thanks to Jeni I'm always learning something new and feeling inspired to support Cincinnati parks and do more to improve the landscaping at my own home.

    There is also important current history about Piatt Park - from the Occupy movement starting in the late 2000. Protesters were arrested and a law suit was filed. Charges were dismissed for all the protestors who were charged and there was an allowance to be in the park, near the statue, for 24 hours for a year.

    How disingenuous are Molly North and Jim Goetz? Listen to the July 15, 2021 Park Board meeting where the site selection for a dog park involved seven different sites that met varying criteria, but Molly North started the discussion by announcing there was only one. And that only one was the NE corner of Burnet Woods that was only 21,000 sq ft, has no water, and is near homes. The MLK city owned site is 76,000 sq. ft. is not near homes and would be enough space for natural turf. Jim Goetz's excuse for dismissing this choice was that Good Sam was staging construction materials on that city owned land. In 2021. In 2024 that excuse does not fly. There is no such thing as PFAS free artificial turf. Independent testing is the way for the Park Board to prove that their claim that Forever Lawns K9 turf is PFAS free is factual. th-cam.com/users/live7FqmtzJsGmM?feature=share&t=4768

    When old people like Goetz and Castellini show they don't care about the future for those much younger than them, who won't be dead by the time the worst happens, is gobsmacking. Joking about 70 degree weather in November, due to climate change is tone deaf. We all have to pay for PFAS with our health and our pocketbooks. Shame on Jim Goetz, and Susan Castellini. ...PFAS can be bought for $50 - $1,000 per pound (according to MPCA estimates), but costs between $2.7 million and $18 million per pound to remove and destroy from municipal wastewater, depending on facility size. Small wastewater treatment facilities would face per-pound costs over six times greater than large facilities, due to economies of scale. New “short-chain” types of PFAS are more difficult and up to 70% more expensive to remove and destroy compared to old “long-chain” PFAS.

    • @SmilingIbis

      I have it infesting my yard (Western MO) and was told that it would harm a tree, since its rhizomes will eat under the bark and could, if it ate enough, kill the tree's ability to move water up to the leaves. I pulled it out anyhow without checking, since I'm interested in wiping it out in my entire yard. Between the Winter Creeper and English Ivy, I'm losing my mind.

  • @stephencloud8497
    @stephencloud8497 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m a former employee and a State of Ohio Jounrneyman Carpenter who was employeed here so I know! I gave my two week notice after being exposed to deadly pesticides at Warder Nursery by incompetent employee Tracy Fryburger and not having the safety issues addressed. I am the one that temporarily fixed the Mt. Airy treehouse that should have been closed in my professional opinion because it was unsafe. I am the one who kept you people from being sued! I did that work in May! BTW they’re steel columns not beams and the vertical railings should have been lagged into the joists not cladding. Terrible nomenclature! Stick with the office work and pencil pushing. You should stay in your lane Jason Barron ( Director) and not talk about structual aspects of wood structures that you know nothing about and didn’t go to school for like I did. The wool has been pulled over your eyes by the staff surrounding you. Perfect example of a waste of money. Parks didn’t oversee the work of the sub-contractor who built the treehouse years ago and did sub-par work. Which means it was never inspected. The Deputy Director Jenny Mobley, head of HR Derrick Gentry, Superintendent Andy Schuermann knew of this and the safety issues I expressed and they all ignored me. They do not care about the public’s safety nor their employees’. I trumped my superintendent and made this treehouse safe temporarily until they decided it was a priority. It has a lot more issues than what they showed. Keep your money donors. They are fiscally irresponsible! They are not putting millions of your donated dollars to good use! Fire them all!

      The director has no engineering background! Liability! I have been a journeyman carpenter for 20yrs. Quick action my ass! I brought this to my superintendant in April and said in my opinion it should be priority number 1 or else a kid is going to get hurt! I also have pictures of exposed electrical boxes near playgrounds that were ignored. I cld no longer work for this place. My priority was public safety. In good conscience I gave my two week notice because I knew this organization had their priorities misaligned! The Deputy Director Jenny Mobley is a real nut job too! She was raising her voice and practically leaning over a table at me during the meeting where I said enough is enough. Crazy loon! I wouldn’t let her run a Taco Bell!
