    Let me spare you some time "The Problem of Evil is Also for Atheists" according to him because ....euh... reasons because of theology, completely ignoring that atheists don't agree or acknowledge that theology has any bearing on life unless one believes in a god(s). In short this professor doesn't understand what "the problem of evil" actual is and that for those of us that don't belief in any divine being there is no problem of evil. Life just isn't sunshine and flowers. And he even admits that he is a supernaturalist, which is just a fancy way to say that he believes in something that can't be proven and could be anything from fairies to a god. Some doctorates really are nothing more than bullshitting some bs'ers and voila... one is a professor. And then people wonder why I have so little respect for theologians

    Your "optimistic" worldview requires one to have faith in a fundamental intention for the world, which simply doesn't exist. From an atheistic worldview, the world isn't supposed to be good, it's not supposed to be anything at all. The existence of juvenile bone cancer is incompatible with an all-powerful, all-loving, all-seeing entity. Those that can't do, teach, I suppose.

    • @robertsaget9697
      @robertsaget9697 วันที่ผ่านมา

      He doesn't couch it in terms of the world having intentions but rather that a worldview has certain expectations. If you have a worldview that expects there to be prevailing goodness and minimal pain and suffering then that is prima facie in conflict with the world we see with so much prevalent pain and suffering. Such a worldview is not predicated on theism or atheism. Hence why it can be a problem for atheists.

    • @ke_ag
      @ke_ag วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@robertsaget9697 Atheists generally don't have such expectations because they don't see that existence has any intentions at all, positive or negative. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the development of your current way of thinking on this topic. I have had a very similar experience myself over the years, however the journey has played out a little bit differently for me so far. I live in the US and my parents are both originally from Bosnia. I went from receiving only a very basic Islamic upbringing from parents who were only somewhat practicing to becoming an agnostic in the same way you describe yourself as being. Eventually, I read the Quran and tried to interpret the text in as unbiased a way that I could. I was soon confronted with how much easier said than done that is. I found this religious language problem of thinking through what the right way of engaging with what may or may not be a message from God very fascinating. I found the idea that the same verse, be it a literal verse in scripture or a “verse” in the story of one’s life, could lead one person aright and another astray particularly appealing. I am a Muslim now but I still apply the agnostic label to myself in a way that conflicts with my status as a religious person perhaps more so than this kind of agnostic vs atheist tension you refer to in your video. I don’t perceive God’s guidance as some kind of cheat sheet that so many religious people enjoy likening it to. The test is never over. That’s why as someone who also takes the question of Gods existence very seriously, I encourage you to stick to the agnostic label. You and I are still in development. Who knows? In 6 days, we might both become Hindu and 2 years later we might be back where we started. We can’t find God but He can find us. He either has or hasn’t or will or won’t. All we can do is question ourselves and the extent to which our minds are receptive to whatever the truth we yearn for may be.

    The problem with theology and religious philosophy like Christianity is that they dont even read their own book. Isaiah 45:7 KJV I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. Clearly we see God of the Bible is not all Good, but he creates evil too. I also don't think that there is any very good reason to think that the Christian God is all good in the sense that his morality would in any way match my own moral intuitions. I don't know if saying "God is good" is even supposed to mean that, maybe it's more like a non-cognitivist statement that really just means people should submit to God's will.

      I had to bash my head trying to understand religions with cold logic. Its not worth it, like Kierkegaard said, you have "to loose your mind" to have faith in God. I know some people who are very rational who has done that, to restore peace and order in their lives, but I don't think that is worth it either. I think our ultimate meaning should be to rise above meaninglessness and hopelessness rather than seeking comfort in metaphysical "truths".

      @@MsJavaWolf that's really just it. Bonhoeffer has a whole treatise on 'simple discipleship' that consists of an advocacy to unreflective obeisance to divine commands. He deems the story of Genesis, the deception of Eve by the serpent, to be allegorical to the fall of humanity being caused by a desire, in the Hegelian sense, to conjecture self-validating reasons or motivations for moral behavior. His advocacy is quite literally, to unreflectively obey divine commands without knowledge of whether they're good or evil. this unreflective aspect is what ultimately turns people off from Bonhoeffer's version of discipleship, especially because it's difficult to conceptualize something to which you heed commands from without rationalizing some kind of ostensible authority property from the being or thing that sends commands. That being said, I find Bonhoeffer's version to be a bit more palatable version of divine command theory. It isn't as vitriolic as Anscombe's, and seems primarily concerned with Christological Virtue Ethics, which I agree with in most aspects. Mainly in it having universal 'proximal' love as an axiom, and on all actions Christ made being non-contradictory to this axiom. This non-contradiction to a principle of universal love is what gives his divine command theory more ostensibility. Bringing a more inscrutable air to Christ, specifically, in being someone we can unreflectively heed commands from, because he himself never acted against the axiom of 'proximal' love. God, on the other hand, seems a more difficult matter to tackle without compromising some of his presupposed properties or rewriting most of the old testament to not make it seem like he's ignoring his own commandments every other verse.

    ¿Es posible estar equivocado creyendo? ¿Es posible creer que es imposible estar equivocado creyendo?. A Dios se llega mediante la razón y los sentidos, a Dios se llega pensando. A Dios no se llega creyendo lo que sea por miedo. ¿Por qué creen los religiosos que Dios existe?. Los religiosos creen que Dios existe porque no saben que Dios existe, los religiosos creen que Dios existe porque son ignorantes. No tienes que creer en Dios porque Dios es necesario. Dios existe porque lógicamente es imposible la existencia de la creación o finitud sin el creador o infinitud. ¿Si aceptas que Dios es necesario aceptarías que la humanidad está engañada creyendo porque demasiada gente miente demasiado?. La verdad que te hace libre es el ateísmo es una falacia lógica que asume Dios es la idea religiosa del creador de la creación y concluye erróneamente que el creador no existe porque una idea particular de Dios no existe. Para acabar la guerra el descubrimiento de que el ateísmo es una falacia lógica tiene que ser noticia. El verdadero Dios es el Dios de Spinoza y si no me crees puedes leer a Spinoza. ¡Emergencia! I appreciate the philosophy of putting knowledge to top position (I'd agree! It's personal "mission" of mine, esp. to improve our epistemology in general), but why I'd agree with Oppy that some trivialities are probably non-sensical to track is simply because of opportunity cost. I'm not saying you should spend all time collecting most important knowledge. We don't necessarliy know what it is, and there's also this thing to rest, take some time off and all that. But _when_ we have time to learn new things, because our time and capacity is limited, I would not spend time storing to log what brand of ice cream I had for dessert. If we had all the time and and much, much bigger cognitive capabilities then sure, why wouldn't we log minutiae as well for future generations.

      If an atheist is also a Marxist or someone who adheres to critical social justice, they are an activist and should be opposed.

      @@josevalverde7431 It cannot be a religion. A few days ago comments shared about religion, this person also an atheist wrote 'which' God. I politely placed, 'whose' God/s. Writing which God is accepting a God is real. Yet whose God is the initial human indoctrination. I admire Spinoza's God, as it is known as Spinoza's God, because, yes, he wrote it. Giving it more logical and a rational scientific thought. Dissolving superstition. Spinoza's God is possibly the closest explanation yet. I don't actively go hunting and attacking the religious. I have better things to do with my time. When I was a kid my parents gave me the choice of any religion, reiterating their support. But what that done, is made a child make choice based on responsibility. But also ask questions. All the questions.

    What!? You have respect for William Lane Craig!? I'm honestly a bit shocked... I consider him to be within the group of the worst Christian apologists. One Christian apologist who comes to mind as more honest and respectable is Sean McDowell.

      lol. You're right. William Lane Craig got nicknamed "Low Bar Bill" for good reason. In his opinion, you should keep lowering your standard in order to believe in a god. smh. I've watched his debate vs Sean Carrol, that was hillarious. If i must choose a good apologist, i'd name Mike Licona or Blake Giunta. Both of them are great in debates, even vs Matt Dillahunty.
