Tilt & Trim Explained - 1983 Mariner 50hp Outboard | The $150 motor project - Mercury Blueband
มุมมอง 8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I purchased a 1983 Mariner 50hp outboard 4 cylinder 2 stroke outboard for $150 from Facebook Marketplace for my boat build. In this video I run through the tilt trim set up and how it works
$300 Tinny Build! | I bought a boat on Facebook market place and rebuilt it in a week.
มุมมอง 2.9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I bought a aluminium tinny boat for $300 off Facebook Marketplace. It is a 1970s Brooker 13 foot with a 25 horsepower Tohatsu outboard. It came with a Garmin Striker 4 sonar worth $250, a new fuel tank and fuel lines, a set of safety flares and 3 anchors with new rope! It was too good not to buy. The trailer is a galvanised Redco trailer with a new wheel and 2 new tyres. Some times you get lucky!

I know this video was three years ago, but hopefully you can help answer my question. I just basically inherited a 1985 Mercury 50 horse. It has the same set up tilt and trim system and it does work. Looking at the wiring diagram I kinda understand it. But The wire harness that comes out of the trim limit on the side of the ram. It has a black wire and a white wire. Where does that hook up so that the trim limit works? Thank you sir!

I rewatch the video and think I figured it out. I see that that cable comes out of the trim limit switch that has the black-and-white wire. Black wire looks like it goes to the blue coming off the pump. The white wire goes to the purple. I understand the regular up-and-down switch and everything, but still not sure where to hook up a up and out switch?

How do u bleed the trim on that motor n if u could make a video of that

Great deal on that motor Brock .I have the Mercury version of this setup, that control switch comes apart and is very easy to clean up the contacts (mine was in very bad condition). Also the limit switch controls max trim out and is set so motor doesn't leave the side guides, pushing both up and up/out gives full lift. I changed the wiring around to make "up" my trim adjuster and up/out the limit bypass, just simpler up =trim up, down=trim down, push "up/out" & "up" for full up

How can I manually raise the motor?

    • @smithysspeedshop
      @smithysspeedshop 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry for the delay. If you disconnect the hose, you will be able to manually lift the motor. Do be aware that it is very heavy and may need an engine crane/a few strong people. If you disconnect the hoses, be sure that you keep any body parts clear as it may drop suddenly

Our boat has this motor, my husband lowered the trim to cover for winter, now we can’t get the trim to raise(it makes noise in the lower button, how can we raise it manually to drive it to the shop for repair?

Sorry for the delayed reply. Is the motor making noise when you press the raise button?

    • @smithysspeedshop

Can only be lowered by releasing the pressure valve. Can’t be manually raised if the pump fails (to my knowledge).

@@phongsavathkhamatsmay5436 the pressure valve is just a thumb screw. It can be turned by hand (unless it is siezed) and the fluid will flow through.

I’ve got two of these 50hp Mariners on my old Lund Tyee. This video was very helpful as far as understanding which wires for what. Not many in this year and the years surrounding. Thanks!

Hey, sorry for the late reply, they were turned off. I think the biggest thing in the Brooker is even weight distribution front back, left right. It can handle some big chop for a small boat if it’s set up right
