WSIR GP run 4
This is the GoPro in-car video for Nathan in the GT3 and I doing some lead follow work. The rear view mirror shows Nathan following for a good portion of the video.

WSIR run4
มุมมอง 41หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the PDR session 4 from WSIR 9/21/24. Nathan in the Porsche GT3 asked for the video as we did lead-follow and had a good time. We had a great discussion following the session. My next post will be the GoPro in-car video as my C8Z rear view mirror/camera shows Nathan when he was following me. Afternoon temperatures got to 90* so lap times were a little slower.
WSIR GP run 3 GoPro inside

This video covers about the same time frame a the PDR video but is from my GoPro inside the car so gives a good idea what I was doing and the bumps in the track. I am sorry for the outside view glare, I am still a Video novice. This does show a couple driving "responses" in turn 5 and one other place, but shows how well behaved overall the C8Z was.
Willow Springs run 3, September 21, 2024
มุมมอง 415หลายเดือนก่อน
This was my 3rd run of 5 on September 21, 2024 at Willow Springs International Raceway running with Speed Ventures. My C8 Z06 is not a Z07 option car, but does have CCBs and I was running Cup2R tires that had cone one prior road course event and had about 650 miles on them. The best two laps in the video (lap times did not display on the video) were 1:28.77 and 1:28.69 taken from the GM Coswort...
Mojave Magnum 201 2 with titles
มุมมอง 322 หลายเดือนก่อน
Back in 2018 I ran my 2009 Z06 at the Mojave Airport in the 1.5-mile trap speed event. The C6Z had full cam/heads/ intake and exhaust work done on it by Cordes Performance Racing. It put out ~600 rwhp. Suspension was mostly stock. On the two runs that I trapped at 201.2 MPH, I was running Toyo R888R rear tires, but we were not allowed to pre-warm them prior to the runs, so they did break loose ...
First track day for my C8 Z06
มุมมอง 1803 หลายเดือนก่อน
ProAuto runs 6-10AM at Firebird East once the weather gets hot in the Valley. I have driven this track before in my stock C6Z and then with full HCI - 600rwph. This was my first outing with the new C8Z, non-Z07 with CCBs and running Cup2R tires. The first 15 minute session was to track burnish the CCBs. The track is only 1.2 miles long. The first 3 sessions I ran in PTM Sport 3. In the last ses...
SSCC 2023 172 525 run
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
This is my best run in the September 15, 2023 1-mile shootout at the SSCC weekend. Standing start, 172.525 MPH trap speed in my C8 Z06. The elevation was 6300' and the Density Altitude was likely over 8000'. I used the automatic launch control mode Sport on this run. Sorry I did not have the different data screens added for this run.

This video shows my C8Z run thru the "Narrows" section of the 90-mile Silver State Challenge 2023. I ran in the 150 MPH average speed class . I finished 3rd in class with a time variance of 0.2582 seconds. The Narrows is the slowest part of the 90-mile course.
Following Mark, my 1:14 94 lap on the East Track at Spring Mountain
มุมมอง 140ปีที่แล้ว
During the Jun 5 and 6, 2023 Spring Mountain C8 Z06 Corvette Owners School, all track sessions were following an instructor, with 2 or three students following behind. Periodically we would pull over on the main straight of the 1.5 mile East Track and swap who was directly behind the instructor. In this video I am the 2nd student in line behind the instructor. Mark, driving the Z06 ahead of me ...

During the June 5 and 6 C8 Corvette Z06 Owners school we got to have our instructor drive us around the 1.5 mile East Track at a good pace, not flat out, in our School assigned C8 Z06. Mine had the standard aero, GT2 seats and the Carbon Ceramic Brakes. It was a fantastic school. This video has his lap time coming out of the pits, then he enters the pits on his second lap. Thanks, Dave, your videos and detailed descriptions are very informative. As I mentioned in a previous message on one of your other videos, our north San Diego county Corvette Club will be doing a Willow Springs track day in a month or two and your information is very valuable. We are basically C8 and C7 and mostly beginners so we were considering the streets of Willow Springs track because it looks less challenging and more technical for learning purposes. What is your opinion of the two tracks? Glenn
I have never driven the Streets course. I did SCCA/IMSA racing for 35 years and like high speed challenging tracks so like WSIR a lot. From what I have read Streets would be a good course for those with limited track experience. Getting a good technical base and being able to consistently do proper turn-in, apex and track out is what you are looking for in skill building. You will also have more time to recover safely from mistakes than you have in higher speed corners where precision can make the difference between a well-done fast corner and a destroyed car. I like the Firebird East track even though it is short and slow because the series of corners and short straight on the pit side of the track rewards driving a precise line with good lap times.
Thanks Dave for your informative posting. Our Corvette Club will be doing a Willow Springs track day in the next month or two. We will be driving, basically C8 and C7’s but many are beginners so we were thinking of the Streets of Willow Springs track. What are your opinions of the two tracks?
Thank you for posting. I just got a C8 Z06 recently, also without Z07 package. Am planning on tracking at WSIR soon. Do you think you miss the Z07 aero (front lip and rear wing) at all, in terms of missing extra downforce? I’m debating getting the aero, before tracking. Thanks!
I have never driven a Z07 optioned C6Z, C7Z or C8Z. Would I lap faster with it, probably. I golf and my buddies at the golf course enjoy seeing the car. No way I wanted to be lifting the bag over the wing or feeding it in from the side. I am very pleased with my C8Z. I use it for several performance events, drive around town and go on driveouts with our local Corvette club. It cruises nicely on the highway and the wife is very pleased with it. I'm not concerned if I could be faster with the Z07. I would be faster running Hoosiers also, but I wouldn't drive them 400 miles each way to Willow Springs. I'll let you judge if I am fast enough after watching the video above. I do expect I can pick up 1-2 seconds with a faster entry into T2, some mods to my line in T4 and T5 and definitely carry more speed into and through T8 with a wider approach to T9 and pick up speed at the exit to carry down the main straight.
I do have a C7Carbon Z07 style front splitter without the dive planes.
@@AzDave47 thanks for the reply. I think your times are very very quick. I would be lucky to come even close to them. My last track car at WSIR was a manual 2018 Carrera GTS, on Cup 2’s, but my fastest lap was only 1:37.
@@hotguk The2015 Porsche GT 3 in the run 4 videos did a 1:29.7 best that day and has been down in the 1:28s
I ran in the unlimited class in a Porsche 911 twin turbo. We averaged around 165 thru the narrows, 207 on the straights and 187.6 average overall.
That is impressive, my minimum speed thru the Narrows was 117 MPH pulling 0.94 Gs. When did you run? I looked back thru the results for the last 10 years and there was a Porsche 928 that ran several times in the Unlimited, but no 911's.
@@AzDave47 I ran a fully race prepared 911 twin turbo with fuel cells, full roll-cage, halon fire system, fire suit and a sister co-pilot screaming 'you're going to kill us' the entire run :-) This would have been 2000 or 2001, UNL Class. The next year I ran an Ultima GTR with a 1450bhp twin-turbo dry sump and we hit 247 mph shortly after the start, but the car went unstable, and I thought it was aerodynamics but it ended up being steering rate and geometry. I quit open racing after that year because a friend of mine crashed his identically prepared Porsche twin turbo when they blew a tire at 195 mph and had an off-road excursion, 12 end-over-end rolls, and there was nothing left of the car except a roll-cage and two critically injured passengers. His wife survived, but he had broken his neck in two places, and had internal injuries, and it took him two years to die, hard to watch. My kids were 3, 7 & 8 at the time. I continued to road-race both the Porsche and the Ultima... you can have a bad day at a race track and bend some expensive equipment, but you probably won't die. Open road races are dangerous, and you never hear about the tragedies' and deaths. That's the dirty secret of this particular sport.
This is crap. My civic si would smoke that rust bucket
To think you could have thrown it into 8th gear, dropped the RPM to low 4k and achieved high teens MPG at that speed...
My guess is the engine would probably not do 150 in 8th gear as it is so much an overdrive. Also, when running the course and you get a mile marker time, and want to change your speed noe, the higher gears would respond too slowly, introducing another factor into trying to zero out my time. Usually in the last 4 miles I am trying to true up 0.4 seconds. Just the time to make a change happens 1/4 mile (6 seconds) after you go by the mile marker.
Lame
Let's see you get out there and do it. You'd go out the left side door in the first turn.
Not going that slow 😂
@@OneEye.Don’t feed the troll.
Yall obviously never been that speed, and even more obviously never recorded yourself going that speed, let alone cornering, everything looks slower on the onboard camera FYI, stick to videogames bruh 😂🤣
@@Garf2O been faster than that in slow cars 😂
What camera set up did you use for this footage? Awesome looking course, very cool concept for an event!
One of our club members won this event last year. I would like to try it.
Pretty close to being a typical early Sunday morning drive for me……
I agree!
Ikr, i know a LOT of people talk about how good they can drive, but i legit could have done most of that speed just staying in 1 lane imao, this event looks fun i need to try it.
