    Usually, if you’re attic is vetted properly, there will be no pressure problem. I have a properly installed whole house fan, and that is the principal on which they work, pulling fresh air in through the windows and expelling the hot air out through the attic

  • @JohnnyShingles
    @JohnnyShingles ปีที่แล้ว

    I disagree with your ice and water shield going on top of the drip edge. Not sure if you're in the Northeast but out here in the winter, sometimes gutters freeze up very badly and when that happens, the drip edge is pushed up from the expanded ice thus exposing the top of the fascia board where it meets the plywood. Now you have an area that is vulnerable for water to drip back into and is a really bad scenario especially for houses that don't have an overhang. The correct ways to put the ice and water shield on first and even go as far as to getting it behind the gutter about a half inch or an inch. Even if that means loosening the gutter system. Then put your drip edge on. In the event you have missing shingles from some storm and water runs behind the shingles and down the underlayments, whatever water runs behind the drip edge will run off the ice and water shield and into the gutter. We've been doing it that way for over 15 years and have never had a single issue.

    • @GoodHomeInspection
      @GoodHomeInspection ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in north Texas, Dallas, that's not an ice shield, that's underlayment as stated. The roof covering manufacture and the IRC think that the underlayment goes over drip edge and under rake edge flashing, like it was; underlayment goes over the drip edge flashing in any part of the country. And the drip edge flashing was supposed to cascade over the back of the rain gutter. All day long, 24/7 365.

I also do some Expert Witness work although videos like that are more serious and wouldn’t be searchable on my TH-cam Chanel. Quite a few video’s I produce are not searchable on TH-cam because of individual privacy considerations. Please remember that my videos are not reports, they are first or second passes used to supplement the reports I create. I use these videos as part of my note taking system and to share my process with my client. • @GoodHomeInspection

      Thank you for following me. These videos are supplemental to my client’s inspection report, so certain information is best parceled and served in specific sections of the report. These videos are for my clients and it’s best not to bundle too much information into a long video. Should my client want a specific issue address during negotiations, a short video will help get my client’s concerns across. I exhaust ≈ 3 batteries a day, it takes me ≈ 3 hours to download and upload these videos every night, after a 7 hour day, and then I repeat the whole process the following day. That doesn’t include processing ≈ 70 still images, researching my findings and writing the ≥ 40 page report. These videos represent only part of a 16 hour workday for me. There are other home inspectors out there filming themselves performing complete home inspections. Some of them are pretty slick. I might try that one day, but for now the best I can do is apologize for blowing up your feed.

    It absolutely blows my mind that here in 2021 my county doesn't include drainage as part of a new home building plan. Low-Impact Development wants 4% slope for ten feet & then 1% to the public-ROW-drainage & is one of the set of guidelines I like. The south & center of the country have expansive-soils so when temperatures are above 90f you actually want moist soil to prevent the soil from shrinking too much & not properly supporting the foundation,... but we still need drainage for our 4.5-inch flash-flood risks.

    You don’t need insulation on those lines. The water coming in will be very similar to the temperature in the building. You’ll never get your money back for the cost of insulation.

    • @GoodHomeInspection
      @GoodHomeInspection 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The building codes and the manufacture’s insulation instructions seem to be in conflict with your opinion. When you put your hand on the water lines and the Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve, the heat you feel is heat that has been paid for and is now escaping unused. That temperature is very different than the interior ambient temperature. This is also heat that will be compensated for during the interior cooling cycle. Insulation isn’t expensive and has been proven time and time again to have a quick return on investment. If the effect was negligible the codes and installation instructions would have been written differently. I insulate my water heater piping and I recommend that my client’s do the same. It cost very little to do it right. This applies to water heater tanks, which is the subject of this video. This does not apply to tankless water heaters which different codes and instructions address.
