Hitler's French island fortress off Normandy coast is packed with bunkers!
This was one of our favourite videos to shoot and edit - we hope you enjoy it too!
Ile Tatihou - a small island off the coast of Saint-Vaast-la-Hogue in Normandy - has a rich history. Originally named by Viking invaders, it has been the location of fierce battles between the England and French in 1692, a quarantine island for plague victims from 1720, and saw the establishment of a large French fort around 1756 - some of which survives today.
Following the capture of France by German forces in 1940, the island was fortified once more, this time with gun bunkers and emplacements to repel Allied landings.
Surrounding the Vauban tower in the south east you can find a series of defensive bunkers which formed Strongpoint Stp112.
These include machine gun posts and Tobruks, a R680 gun casemate, a R612 casemate for a 7.5cm anti-tank gun, an open emplacement for a 5cm KwK anti-tank gun, and a Vf69 mortar bunker.
Near to the R680 is a small concrete build where a signal lamp was positioned to communicate with naval vessels using the port at Saint-Vaast.
Inside some of the bunkers you can see original inscriptions made by the soldiers who were stationed on the island during the war.
The island strongpoint was a target for Allied ships approaching Utah Beach. Known as 'Target 18', it proved a tough nut to crack and between 5:53am and 8:05am, the USS Tuscaloosa fired more
than 100 shells at the island in a bid to silence the guns.
Ile Tatihou was finally liberated by US forces on June 21, 1944, over two weeks after the Allied landings on D-Day!
Today, Tatihou is maintained as a nature reserve and cultural museum site. It can be accessed via an amphibious craft from the mainland and is a must-visit on any trip to Normandy.

GUN REMAINS AND BOOT PRINTS AT WW2 GERMAN BUNKER SITE 'STP BUNKER' - WALKAROUND WITH HIDDEN GEMS
มุมมอง 7869 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
The scattered buildings at the aptly named Stp Bunker were once part of a formidable site which stood at the top of the dune system overlooking the wide, sandy beach 1km south of Merlimont-Plage. Except for the ruins of two Wellblech personnel shelters in the dunes, the rest of the positions lie in clusters on the beach. At the heart of the site is a R612 type gun casemate - which replaced an o...

Definitely not AI. Not even a filter 👍
A reminder to some of what once was- and a promise to others of what could be again. We choose.

Coastal erosion will eventually take it…..
Been there. Amazing turrets just behind.
That was soft and dense AF to catch those rounds with minimal shock and no puncture like wtf
Karma a bitch I should have known better 🤘😂
You're meant to be safer in something like that. I certainly wouldn't want to be inside at the time 😂
Damn watching those videos makes me feel bad for the people who died for nothing

THEY ARE IN THE MOON
Very nice find :)
Respect to the fallen soldiers🔥
I do not know how the Allies were able to penetrate these thrusts and we also do not know what the problem of the Germans is today These thrusts are difficult to penetrate If they fight the Germans with stones it is difficult to defeat them
Der steht noch in Hundert Jahren. Da sind viele Brücken schon eingestürzt
It’s from the heat
La perdida de sustentacion de terreno de este bunker se habra debido a los bombardeos de los buques de guerra? O sera simple erosion del acantilado pues en un futuro caera al lecho de la playa.
Simple erosion of the cliff.
Thts nuts
Looks easily taken out
Woe
Imagine melting 🪨 stone

Sembra la testa di un ' aquila che scruta la preda all' orizzonte! Sono stato in Normandia e ho visto che opere di ingegneria militare erano capaci i Tedeschi.
