What an amazing sight. I did the boat tour today and spent 7 hours with no sight of whale. I guess it wasn't a lucky day. Can anyone point me to where I can find the contact or website for Mirissa Whale Watching Club? All I can find in the interest Whale Watching Club is their website says "They're not the same with Mirissa Whale Watching Club?" :D

We hired a Private Catamaran for my Wife's Birthday for Whale Watching and that's the highlight of the tour. Such a lovely experience spotting few whales and so many dolphins. I'm doing one of these trips next month. And I'm already worried that all I'll hear is shrieking from people on the boats. (Though in fairness, this was restrained, except for that one woman). Yes, I get that it's exciting - I'll be as thrilled as anyone. But once the humans start giving voice, it's all about them........ Not nature.

How nice a) that the boat engine cut and b) that the tourists managed at least to TRY to keep a lid on the screaming and screeching...! Thanks for this.

My search for a vid where the sighting of a blue whale -- or any whale -- doesn't cue an off-the-decibel-scale screamfest from the witnessing humans... Continues. (In fairness, this is one of the less strident. Only one woman going falsetto...)

We will lose our underwater heritage in srilanka within 6 years.

All these unorganized tour are disturbing our whales. no real regulations. we have dolphins , blue whales in sea elephants in land . both are facing troubles beacuase of human activity. let us push for proper and safe viewing of these magnificieant animals .

I am a pilot working for fairway aviation in Sri Lanka. We do whale watching from the air off mirissa, out of koggala air base. Its pretty awesome to see them from the air as well.
