A single grown wolf can kill an animal as large as a bull moose, and calves don't stand a chance. Hopefully the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will realize that reopening a wolf season in the Upper Peninsula could help restore the extremely diminish...
Self-Guided Alaskan Caribou Hunt
มุมมอง 180K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This self-guided drop-camp caribou and black bear hunt was unique in that we were not in the Brooks Range hunting the migration like most caribou hunters, but rather hunting a smaller resident mountain herd in the Beaver Mountains, west of McGrath, Alaska. This was our first time in Alaska, and we'll be back!

  • @PNW-GuyDudeman
    @PNW-GuyDudeman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Who are these people saying awesome hunt? That bull across the lake was a Greek tragedy. Let’s recap: 1) You only had 3 rounds in your own rifle while moose hunting in bear country. 2) You made one decent shot. Highlight of the video. 3) Miss. 4) Throated him 5) Took someone else’ rifle sighted in for different range. 6) Misfired a round which could have been a disaster and you guys are laughing about it. 7) AND THEN… because of the aforementioned disaster…you give the bull a Texas heart shot. Way to honor him, guy. This is a disgrace. “Now the work begins.” Ya… because you forgot to do any work before your hunt to prepare you might actually find a moose. I’m shocked you guys posted this. I’m shocked people are complimenting it.

    • @taggedoutdoors
      @taggedoutdoors 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PNW-GuyDudeman to help with your recap… 1) We all only carried 3 rounds in our rifles, because that’s the max capacity unless you carry one in the chamber, which we didn’t feel was safe. It doesn’t take much in the bush to potentially bump the safety and then subsequently the trigger. As for being in bear country, we didn’t see a single bear (brown nor black) or any bear sign. Even so, we all had 10mm handguns for bear protection. Additionally, as non-residents, none of us could shoot a brown bear unless in imminent danger to life or property. Anyone who could get off more than 3 shots from a rifle in an “imminent danger” situation wasn’t in imminent danger. 2) The first shot was double lung. The bull was dead at that point. I guess we could have let him die slowly at that point, but we decided not to. The second shot was in the neck. Dead again, even on its own. Shots 3 and 4 were indeed misses, but I don’t think the trees in the background minded. Shot 5 hit him in the rear as he was walking away, and he dropped there. I guess we could have a discussion about the ethics of firing additional rounds into a dying animal in order to speed the dying process. We think it’s appropriate, but maybe you disagree. 5) All 3 of our rifles were “sighted in” or “zeroed” for 200 yards. With the first gun, on a 350 yard shot, he had to hold high to compensate for bullet drop. The second gun used on that bull had a scope with a CDS (custom dial system) that got adjusted realtime to the 350 yard shot distance, so there was no need for additional adjustment for bullet drop. 6) The trigger pull on rifle #2 is much lighter than on #1. The shooter hadn’t previously shot anyone’s rifle but his own, which I suspect is pretty typical, but maybe that’s a good consideration for future hunts. I’d argue it wasn’t a “misfire” but rather a poorly aimed shot down range because it fired with minimum trigger pull while placing the crosshairs where he wanted them… on a moving animal at 350 yards. We did indeed laugh about the situation after the fact while recapping the hunt with a friend. I can assure you that if there was a dangerous situation, there wouldn’t have been any laughter. 7) I’m guessing you’ve never harvested a moose, or you would understand that the real work does indeed happen after the bull goes down. This statement is in reference to the field processing and packing out of a 1,000 lb animal. Any hunter who has ever harvested a moose shares in that mentality. It has nothing to do with level of preparation before the hunt. Thanks for watching.

      I would agree with you. The second bull, they didn't have game bags, and only 1 knife. Never seen so much disregard for the awareness of a muzzle. Why would you try and talk your buddy out of shooting a bull because the packers out would be too hard??
