    I have 7 dogs, 6 just turned 2 year, the mother is 2 years old. I'd like to this route but I'm trying to wrap my head around how to provide all the protein and efficiently. I can't spend everyday processing meat. I found this video searching about just feeding the whole live rabbit to them. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. Thank you.

      Hello, since this video and getting a new dog. We've simplified it by just feeding the whole animal (chicken, rabbit . . . ) which is ultimately easier and healthier because they get everything. My husband does the dispatching as quickly and painlessly as possible. Then I weight the rabbit and give it to the dog outside to eat. If it's a bit large, then I just take it away once my dog has eaten about half of it and serve it the next day. I also only feed once per day which is also a time saver and better for the dog so there's a fasting period. This works for my dog as she's a pickier eater and does best eating one time per day. Though I know some dog's lives revolve around 2 feeding per day. At best she doesn't eat all the intestines or if there's too much fur/feathers. Whatever doesn't get eaten goes to the night critters (foxes, raccoon . . . ) Hope that helps.

    Does it change anything if you freeze the meat then thaw it out when you’re ready to feed it to your dogs because I have six huskies I’m looking to feed this way

    • @falconefamilyfarm9839
      @falconefamilyfarm9839 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, freezing won't change anything weight wise. It could damage some of the nutrients, but not enough to fret. I've heard some dogs prefer eating meat that's been frozen first vs fresh. This video is a little outdated. With my new dog (german shepherd), I give her the whole freshly dispatched rabbit (outside of course). This is referred to as the PMR style diet. I weigh the rabbits and try to guess when she's eaten enough for the day before taking it away and saving the rest for the next day. It's so much easier prep wise, and she gets all the nutrients from the rabbit including from the brain, eyes, blood, etc. When they get the whole animal, there is no need for additional supplementation. Hope that helps!

    • @falconefamilyfarm9839
      @falconefamilyfarm9839 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cows eat grass, dogs eat meat. I'm not anti-vegan, but I am for species appropriate diets. Feeding a dog a vegan diet is animal cruelty in my opinion. Just because they can survive on it (for a little while), does not mean they will thrive. You can't change what a dog is (a meat eater) because of your own personal beliefs. It's selfish and cruel.

    I thank God for you doing the math because I’m incompetent. However my 60lb dog is a malinois and they specifically will need more because of the breeds if I was of course feeding solely rabbits. She is a very high energy output breed and constantly burning tons of calories and nutrients, she isn’t a house dog so this works perfect for a house dog and gives me a ball park estimate but breed DOES matter. But I digress, you’ve helped me out so much more than you can imagine because I have directly been wondering how many rabbits it would take so thank you so much, ever greatful! Cheers!

      Yes, every single pen has a chain link floor so we don't have any escapees. We used the heavy duty stuff, not the cheap stuff, so that it will stand the test of time and corrosion. And then there's anywhere from 2-4 inches of dirt on top of it.

    To whom this may concern she is giving you numbers for a low breeding regimen. You can easily get 200-300 pounds of meat from one buck and three does a year. All you have to do is space the time between each breeding by about 6 weeks. Meaning breed one doe wait 6 weeks then the next so on and so forth. This time will get you through the gestation breed and enough time for the first doe to be ready to breed again. If you feel like they need more time then stretch the full cycle out. So that would be 10 weeks between each. Giving each does 70 days of down time. Now what does that look like you’ll need four pins for you breeders. And six large pins for your kits. As they grow to the 5-8 week marker you’ll separate the bucks from the does. 2-3 weeks later depending on the rabbit breed they should be 4-5 pounds. 2-3 weeks later the next set so on and so forth. Until your getting 50 pounds a month 5*5=25 25*2=50 50*9=450. In each litter there about 5-6 kits I chose 5 at 8-10 weeks because of my rabbits. That’s 25 pounds per rabbit twice a month. For 9 months because winter breeding is to dangerous. That’s over 400 pounds of meat from 4 rabbits. So how do you cut that down you get rid of one doe. Still buy four, because there is a high chance one is deaf blind or has breeding issues. Cull that one keep the rest.

      Yes, you are correct. But I'm calculating how many doe rabbits you need to breed to make food for your dog each year. Not how many pounds to feed in one day. I guess I should have added that into the video but after processing and cleaning a 5 pound rabbit and getting rid of the inedible parts, it leaves my dog who is 60 lbs with 4 meals or 2 days worth of food, each daily portion weighs about 1.25 lbs for him to eat each day.
