I'm going through the process of becoming a volunteer firefighter now, and I'm terrified of heights. But I know it's something I'll have to suck up and deal with.
For those of you laying on your beds/couches saying this is easy go annoy someone else’s video. This isn’t just a mental test this is physically exhausting. This makes a stair master look like cake. Your fire suit, boots, mask, gloves and all the other crap you have to wear weighs you down. It also makes you hot and sweaty during the climb. It’s easy to talk trash from your phone or computer but many of you couldn’t do this.
It's all in your mind...i just climbed a 100 ' ladder a few days ago for the first time and I can tell you that yes it is very high, the best thing to do is not to look up but look straight at your hands, take it one step at a time and breath each step you take...coming from a guy who was mindfucked by these videos before I climbed it and thought I was terrified of heights..truly it was all in my head
If he's on a belay line, it means nothing. The mental part is a lot of this kind of maneuver. For example - put aplank on the sidewalk and ask someone to walk it. No problem. Put that plank 30 feet in the air between 2 buildings, and your mind will mess with you physically...your thioughts abouit falling make you more apt to fall.
hldtrm Depends on the department and situation. Drill? Sure set it up you have plenty of time. Fully involved structure fire with potential victims trapped? Raise it up 8 stories and get in there.
Tony Della Croce Lol equipment??, lol my fire academy I'm about to start is just the ladder and you, no rope to hang on to, scary as hell start the 25 of September 😬
I'm quite sure you will nevre get in a IRL situation where the ladder has to be set at full lenght, in a straight line. but ofc, you have to be able to do it, jst in case.. but still.
The large urban departments do it regularly. Smaller urban departments once in awhile. Suburban and rural volunteer departments are going to be hardly at all of ever, simply because of the demographics of their communities.
jackrobinson82 There are ladder belts with ropes attached to them that they wear when they climb. When they go higher on the ladder, the instructor tightens the rope at the end of the ladder like a belay system.
I'm not really bothered by confined spaces, but i am absolutely terrified of heights! I get scared climbing a deer stand, I don't know if I could handle climbing a ladder that high!
Damn. I'm gonna go through the fire academy at my college, probably 2015, but crap, I have a major fear of heights. Not sure how I'm going to be able to do this. Well, by the time it rolls around, I'll be in shape and ready to go.
I'm currently in the fire academy here in central Texas. My fear of heights is ridiculous and I had to do this just this last Friday. It was intense and took a lot for me to get it done...but I did it. You'll be fine, once you get to the top and strap in then head back down, you'll feel really good about accomplishing it. Good luck...
I’ve climbed a 200 foot mountain wall and this 100 foot ladder still gets me from the video lol
What a thrill...with darkness and silence through the night... What a thrill...
Oh man I thought you didn’t have a safety rope. Lol I’m good

Cool.
Firemen
Don't look at the reflection, down or up. Just forward.
Almost as cool as Aggie Bonfire

Hi from 2020 please understand that you're so lucky to be in 2019 :-)
Hello from 2021. It's not any better.
I wanna do this But from the other side. Now that sounds like a sick send👌

Nobody is talking trash what's wrong with you 😂😂😂
That's what a fucking nope looks like boys.
This is my dream job
Nothing to it......if you can't do it, you don't belong there

Breathing and looking at your hands does work.
I'm in the process of getting into a department and I am terrified after watching these videos. I'll take your advice lol
Thank you so much
You are the real MVP. Definitely not gonna let the stick stop me from failing the academy, but it’s definitely a big mind F**k that’s messing with me…
my company has a 1989 E-One 135'. I have yet to attempt to climb that. She's intimidating! Perhaps someday.

I rode with the Denver Fire Department on Truck 12 and climbed the aerial at full extension 110' high
Do you have a fear of heights?
Are you always harnessed on to the ladder, or is it different for each department?
hldtrm Depends on the department and situation. Drill? Sure set it up you have plenty of time. Fully involved structure fire with potential victims trapped? Raise it up 8 stories and get in there.
Climb that tiller ladder boyy!!!!
like the 5 inch
when I was three I new every single thing of equipment
u guys are afraid I'm mine and I done that already
I'm going to have to do this in a few months! Part of me is so stoked, and the other part not so much hahaha Builds confidence though!

How was it bro x2. It’s been 3 years! How was it!
How was it bro x3 it’s been 5 years

Oh hell no,.....I couldn't do it.
so I guess you didn't finish? lol. great job man. I'm a training officer for a large full time department. slow and easy, and you'll win the race.
I'm afraid of heights, and just watching this on my computer, I was nervous. I'm not even there, either!
Bruh....
It's really not bad once you get up there. Trust in your equipment.

ViscaElBarca how'd it go?

I love confined spaces. this scares me S***less

The Evil Eagle probably will especially in Tampa plus you never know although it might be unlike let you still have to know and be trained what to do

Do you have a harness in case you lose your grip?

Yes, you wear a harness attached to a rope. When you get to the top you clip into one of the rungs.
@@dstahlbock Do you wear a harness in real situation or only in academy ?
@@powerzz1152 both
