Do you need a balun on you EFHW antenna 49:1 ulun
Does you efhw end fed half wave antenna needs a 1:1 balun common mode choke?
possibly it does . especially if your using a 49:1 ulun or 64:1 ulun or a L network
what to see why and any end fed wire would benifit here we have a wire on the higher HF bands 10M / 12M 28 MHZ 24/MHZ and CB radio 27 MHZ this will only reduce local noise
that the coax is picking up if you have noise that is air born and is being picked up by the antenna itself then your not going to get any improvement but you will reduce interference to neighbours /shack if your line is radiating .
Make your own visit trx bench /baluns
and good luck.

    Nice rig!!!. My Father was a radar engineer for Lockheed and an amateur radio operator dating back to the 1920's, he was a quad Guru and swore by them, as a kid growing up watching him design, test and build quads, I'll have to agree with his theorys. Quads are the best barr none!!!

    Tarsacci will hit it without any problems. The MDT technology works great on gold rings in almost any soil, including salt/alkali. IME Tarsacci is the deepest deepest IB detector available, especially for harsh ground conditions

    Minelabs do not like air .. In undisturbed fields with normal to compressed soil i think it may surpise some people from time to time.. But then again , with the 17” coil hanging under there.. its pretty damn sad that it not even made some sound.. dont know your exact settings or what settings you have tried off course but the Deus surprised me for sure .. Taking in concideration that this was a gold ring , a low conductor wich can be difficult for some minelabs on depth .. but i am very curious about the this particular test in wet salt sand

    The CTX needs the soil to bring the signal up to teh coil. Many times I find a deep signal, then dig a plug and lose the signal. It still pinpoints, but the CTX will not detect down an empty hole very well.

    What happens when the line isolator is placed at the other end of the coax? A counterpoise is another way of removing common mode currents and the coax shield can perform this function.

    • @kevsmith5363
      @kevsmith5363 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi sarah thanks for your comment placing the choke at the other end of the coax is not going to work for you as the point is to remove common mode current from the line as close to the antenna as possible . if its at the radio end then its to late the coax will have already picked up noise and transmitted rf

    I'm not an antenna expert and this infor is for those who are not familiar with these EFHW 49:1 but as far as I'm aware, on this EFHW 49:1 there should be peaks in SWR between band edges, flat SWR usually means inefficient antenna design but can be acceptable on say portable vertical antennas where quick setup is required and ability to tx on many bands with tuner. A dummy load provided 1:1 SWR. The coax is also part of this antenna design and you need several feet of coax to form the other end of the antenna. I remember reading that a Choke is a bad idea on this antenna design because it eliminates the coax from the antenna, which forms the other end of the antenna. Also with this antenna design there is usually a coil a few feet from the UNUN and this is crucial for the frequencies between 15 and 10m. The Unun core materials also are crucial to this antenna design and mean it works good or works poorly. I have the hyendcompany.nl 49:1 80-10m and this antenna has the "compensating capacitor" in the middle to lower SWR in the phone portion of 80m, without the capacitor SWR would be lowest around 3.5 Mhz. My SWR is also 1.2:1 - 1.6:1 max thought 80, 40, 20, 17, 15, 12, 10m I do not have such flat SWR over such bandwidth, it's 134 feet long and the UNUN is mounted around 3 feet off the ground where I have the UNUN grounded. The antenna then goes up a tree around 10 feet, swings north to around 5o feet then east to 60-65 feet. I am impressed with it and I regularly get DX on all bands, with a tuner 160 and 60m can be worked but with much reduced performance because the UNUN is no longer working as an UNUN on these bands. What's also good is that I can hop bands all day long needing no tuner and all I have to do is tune the Acom 1000 which takes seconds and I don't have to spend a lot of money on an expensive tuner for the likes of a doublet. These EFHW are really good when designed properly with proper core materials for the UNUN and I also find this hyendcompany.nl EFHW 80-10 low noise, I live in the country so most of the time noise is not an issue apart from some noise from powerline which is intermittent.

    Gotta run the sensitivity high on any machine if you want to go deeper! Forget the numbers look for repeatable targets and sometimes if you’re in the woods or someplace that you can dig a big plug without worrying about making a mess you dig iffy signals that’s how you really learn your detector! Not on pre staged holes but I appreciate the effort you made making the video!

    You need the hole filled first otherwise the hole can give a false signal,for deep gold with the d2 try sensitive program. Sensitivity 98, reactivity 0.5, audio response 5 and keep everything else as the stock program and ground balance, it does help with deep targets to ground balance the d2. It's hard to give a program without knowing your ground but these settings run stable on my ground where there are not many signals.
