Oil Change on the Precision Matthews TL 1640 Lathe Gear Box and Headstock. Includes some vulgarity.

Oil, oil, everywhere. Guaranteed. I drop a few F bombs and propose an upgrade. Also, show an extension for the chip tray and a taller back splash that I had bent up.

Short and Sweet #1. Tips on finding a bolt circle, center of a disc and center of a shaft.

Quick and accurate methods of setting up. Using calipers, show how to find a bolt circle in a sheet metal gas tank by averaging multiple measurements. On the Bridgeport Mill, show how to quickly find the center of a thin disc and a large diameter shaft in the vise using an edge finder. Both methods can further be dialed in with the same procedure and an indicator.

Late night, quick turnaround for a broken axle shaft. Find center using the Bridgeport Mill and the material mounted vertical. Put on the lathe using the palette stacker and magnetic lift on the jib crane. Using a dead center with high pressure anti-seize compound. Praise the TL-1640 for being dialed in right out of the box. I am quite interested in your idea of using a second surface grinder as a cutoff machine. Shops, especially small shops, which i have downsized to about a quarter of the space i used to occupy, are all about capability, and floor space. Every square inch of floor space has to be rationalized. Double duty for a surface grinder is an excellent idea i think. Thin curf cutoff 8" wheel, you have extraction and i have coolant capability. And being three phase on a VFD, maybe a carbide wet saw blade reducing the RPM? Obviously the arrangement of the table and cutting does not lend itself to a lot of cutting jobs. But the machine... mine is a manual Brown & Sharp 6 x 12 , it could be quite handy for some tasks... especially where close tolerances are desired. Thank you for the tour.

      Clear the carriage with compound at 29-1/2* to prove that the end could be threaded with nothing special. On my Hardinge, I have to use an MT2xMT2 extension to do the same. On the PM, the tailstock is 3" diameter with 6" travel. It was also locked.

    David please don't think I'm critiquing you negatively. That is definitely not the case ... as I'm only trying to point out things that you'll find out in time. You are the first person on TH-cam that I've seen that utilizing the capacity of my Rose-Index for enlargening your work envelope, and various functions in one project. Thank you for your time and sharing this video series. -2m40seconds: "Having a hard time getting a reading with the square": If you trust the parallelism of your square you can use both sides of your square as it is convinent per your situation.... and work off of the side opposite of the setscrew side if it is more accessable. All of the shapes of the Rose-Index are machined in the same operation so the position and repeatability is very good regardless of the shape you transfer to. -2m55seconds:"Possibly getting distortion": You'd have to be very tight to get distortion. I've tested my steel 2" Rose-Index up to 150 inchpounds and I had under a thou of total indicator movement across all of the surfaces. I really should come up with some recommended torque limits. -10m : The brass tip on the set screw is important for a couple reasons. Movement and not damaging/maring the work piece. -16m40seconds: Along with Joell's pointing out the vee area pointing towards you being the best position to work with ..... using the weight of your part sitting on the two vises you should be able to just push on the Rose-Index (into the vee area) with your square and it should straighten the shaft out by just pushing towards the solid jaws on your vises. Thank you again for sharing, Timm Rosenthal

      Thank you very much. Until this point I've only used it on short more manageable pieces. Thanks for your product and feedback.

    People said the same shit about immigration in the 1990s, the 1970s, the 1950s the 1920s, the 1900s, the 1880s and the 1850s about the Chinese, Eastern Europeans, Italians, Jews, Germans and Irish. Complaining about immigration is just a roundabout way of saying "I'm a Heartless Economic Illiterate".

    • @davidsomerville7868
      @davidsomerville7868 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It appears that you didn't watch the entire video where I do address these things in a positive manner. The biggest take away is that what's going on is not immigration, it's a mass haphazard influx to boost our population. There's no reason why we shouldn't be told that population correction is needed. It's just another issue to divide the people and campaign over.

    • @seldendaniel8819

      Per NBC News, we 'topped' 2.76 million in 2022. A new report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) reveals that 4.9 million migrants since 2021. Those numbers vary depending on the source and are commonly stated. *If you put to many people in the lifeboat, it will sink.* As you pointed out correctly, we have had successful immigration in the past, but in far smaller numbers and they were 'vetted'. - Ellis Island rejected a large percentage of arrivals. They had to have no major physical defects, a large some of savings, or a letter of credit/sponsorship from an American, among other things. I takes more time and money for larger numbers to settle in, learn the American way and thus maximize their talents. They must assimilate. Many are sick, many have been released from foreign jails, which saves the country they came from a lot of money, and is thus encouraged by those governments. we will have to pay the price of their criminality here, we already are. The blue cities that have seen the greatest number of arrivals are going broke from the situation and complaining, which is a clear warning to us. We are a charitable people, but it is nuts to hurt ourselves, to take on more than we can take care of.
