SF Bay Gardener
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 พ.ย. 2013
Growing in the foggy hills of the San Francisco Bay Area can be a challenge, but I'm fighting the good fight. I'd like to grow enough to start donating food to those who need it. Right now, everything is an experiment, but I know things will get better! Food is growing everywhere!
My Small Gardening Haul: Planting more Fall plants
I visited The Home Depot and Annie's Perennials and Annuals. I found some great garden shears (see link below) and got some bonuses on both sets of plants that I bought.

Plans for the Fall: More food, fewer flowers

I love growing flowers, but when I found out that it takes 30 blackeyed pea plants just to feed one person for a year, I knew that some flowers were going to have to move in order to make room for my food!

My Small Harvests: Enough for a One or Two-Person Household
มุมมอง 1328 วันที่ผ่านมา
I live in a two-person household. Within a small space, I'm growing enough food for us to eat something from the garden everyday, and we sometimes have a small amount to share with family members. Thank God!! Right now, my freezer is full, so what I bring into the house has to be eaten within a few days. So far nothing is going to waste! Hope this helps you gauge how much you'll need to grow if...

The Garden Weed that Can Cost You $1000+

Foxtails are dangerous to your pets and can be very expensive for you. If your pet gets one lodged in their paw or up their nose, they can require surgery. Our dog's last encounter with a foxtail cost is big money! That's why I'm doing this mini landscaping job. Hope you can keep them out of your yard! Take care everyone.

My Potato Harvest from Three Buckets: plus follow-up to Gardening with Gophers

This harvest comes from just three Home Depot five-gallon buckets. I'm growing for two people, so these potatoes are enough for us until the next crop comes in. Going Square Foot'ish This Summer: also My Flower Garden Tour

Still recovering from the virus guys, so I have to post when I can. As you see, I've had to let go of the square foot blocks in the raised bed. This summer is going to be Square Foot'ish in order to give the plants more room to grow. I'm still growing about the same number of plants, though.

Choosing Not to Let a Disappointment Keep Me Down!
I read that you can plant black eyed peas 2 inches apart and another site said 6 inches apart. So if you go in between that and plant them 4 inches apart in your square foot garden you might get a decent harvest without taking up too much space.
@@esmysyield2023 Thanks for the info! That's what I might have to do if I can't get those flowers dug out. Hope your garden held up through all that rain! Take care! 🌿🌺🏵️
Evening Ms Renee. Your flowers look fantastic!. Everything is coming along great. ❤

Hey Ms Rene`e. Hows it going?
@@esmysyield2023 Hi! Things are going pretty well with me. I'm looking for your next video! Your garden is awesome!
@@sfbaygardener1653 i had to put things on hold. I have to replace my house. I do have some okra planted. Everything is a big mess right now. Lol. And very chaotic. Whew. Lol. I am hoping to sort things in the next week enough to get some seeds started though. Wish me luck. Lol.
@@esmysyield2023 Oh my! I knew about the roof, but I didn't know you had to replace the whole house! Of course the garden has to be on hold! May God bless you and keep you safe. 🙏🏽🙏🏽💕💕

That was a lovely harvest
@@melclark281 Thank you!
When do you know its time to harvest them? I planted a few potatoes that had sprouted a couple months ago and the plants are just huge!
@@cateyelizabeth85 When the leaves and stalks begin to yellow wilt, and/or fall over that usually means that it's time to harvest. Also, sometimes you can dig down carefully into the dirt with your hands to feel for potatoes. If they're big enough for you, you can pull them. Check on Google to see how long your kind of potatoes should take to mature. If it's too early, your wilted plants might just need some water. Hope this helps. 🌸🌹🌿
google says landscapers use cateroil.
Hi @jennifererdorsey. Did you mean caster oil? If so, it sounds interesting. Just have to figure out how to keep it away from my dogs. I have one that will eat just about anything. Thanks for your suggestion. Take care! 💕🏵️🌿🌺
I have the same problem in my garden.🤨 I hate to trap them so I just live with them. Installed a few battery operated deterrrents and they seem to work where they are installed but the rest of my beds without … 😩 Thanks for the tips !
Thanks for your response, @ammorales1524. We tried trapping them, but they were too smart. They took the bait and left the traps empty! We haven't tried the battery operated deterrents yet, but we'll keep them on our list of possibilities. Thanks again for watching. Take care! 💕🌹🌸

Good evening Ms Reneè. Everything is looking good. What kind of grapes are your growing?
They're called Vitis, Emeryville Pink. Supposed to be indestructible and perfect for foggy Zone 10a weather. I'll mention the name in the next video. Thanks for asking.
I see your nasturtiums 😊 Your garden is looking good and the renovations are beautiful.
On tomato plants if you buy one you can always take cuttings and root them in a glass of water and ypu will have as many as you need. Save money that way
I hope that I won't have to do that, but you're right. Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂
One of those ole fashion dumwaiters would come in handy for getting your starts down stairs safely.
That would be better than risking my life trying to carry them down! 😂
Oh those are beautiful Ms Reneè
Lol. Thats the same watering wand I use at work. That jet setting is almost like a pressure washer. Lol.

its weird i get a rash when using stuff like pro mix if i dont wear gloves so i stopped using it since i dont like a rash and if it bothers me its gonna bother the seeds also so now i went back to 5 doller MG potting mix for seeds lol

Good morning Ms Renee. Everything looks good 👍🏿 thank you for sharing 🙏🏿💚😊
Thanks so much!! Blessings to you and your garden! 🌷🌺🌱
Thanks for sharing your gardens. I believe the orange flower you were asking about could be 'Orange Bedder' Wallflower. (Erysimum 'Orange Bedder) One popped up in my garden after I had thrown in a seed mix and wallflower was one in the mix and I remember that is does have a nice fragrance. I took a screenshot with my iPhone and went to my pics and if you click on the leaf at the bottom and then look in the middle of the screen we can see plant and bug identification. It’s not always right but worth a try if you have an iPhone or a plant app.
Thanks, @shampoo7112. I do have a plant id app. I was going to put the name on screen, but just got lazy. I think you're right about that flower, but I'll check my phone app and let you all know what it says next time I do a garden tour. Whatever it is, it's definitely a hardy plant! Thanks again for your help! 🌷🏵️🌸🌱
