How did you get your license?
@@LawnProAdviceTalk great question! I went down to my local municipality. They have a contractor and licensing section there. They will show you how to get licensed as an irrigation contractor here in Florida. You have to show proof that you have been working for a company for over three years or more or a company in the same plumbing field, or even if you worked for a general contractor, they will accept that. Then you must fill out an application and take an exam.
The best demonstration I've seen. Thanks!
im hear for you!!
Ok fonally a basic video i have these valves, slow leak wont shut off if i turn to right all the way
I wonder how often the homeowner is watering and thus,, how often the intake filter needs to be cleaned before it chokes the pump.
As long as the filter is installed correctly I perform this service 1 per year
@@progreengroundservices4038 I wonder how often the homeowner is watering
Thank you so much. I'm about to have a panic attack after trying to get my sprinklers to run at the right time 😂I messed up exactly when you said most people mess up😅
@@lauradozier4985 lol that’s what I’m here for!!!
Thank you . I am going to see if you have a video that teaches how to solve the problem.
@@carmenchaux67 what issues are you having? I can tell you now or I can send you one of my other video link on how to fix the problem. It all depends on what issues are you having?
Hi thanks for posting this video! My motor is pulling water, the sprinklers come up and water comes out for about 10 to 20 seconds, then the motor shuts down. What do you think the problem might be?
Thank you - this video had the answer that I was looking for - that you only need one start time! Thanks again.
Same😅😢
Best video on this. You told me what not to do! Thanks
Nice. Have the system and it works well. Only issue is the barrel. The plastic becomes very brittle after being exposed to the sun. Could another barrel be used? One made of a stronger plastic?
@@jeortiz861 you can get a plastic barrel that’s thicker and it will last forever as long as it sealed and have an opening for the pump to pump the chemicals out
Thanks man saved me a bunch of time on fixing my pump!
That’s what I’m here for!!!
Great video
lol i changed it!!!
So if I am not hearing a clicking of the pump, it isn’t working?
With this brand that I have and they all are usually the same unless there’s something new. They make a clicking noise and it’ll let you know it’s on but you’re correct.
Great video and after watching several, came close to answering question with stepdown 2" to 1 1/5". Getting ready to replace my pump after 20 years service as not in housing and rust on motor body, so time is limited - but they have changed. My 1 1/5 HP Craftsman had 1 1/2 intake and outlet, and has served me well with well intake line 1 1/4, and outlet pump to valves also 1 1/4, and hold 35 PSI after all these years and one major problem that surprised didn't burn out the motor. Had a valve go bad so pump would pump for that zone but nowhere to go, so impeller churned the same water making it super hot and I discovered huge bulge in PVC which I replaced and re-primed. In my research, the Everbilt and Craftsman may be the same pump as their welldrop/PSI/GPM for both 1 1/2 and 2 HP are the only pumps today that exactly match the same specs in the 20 y/o Craftsman manual. The big thing that give me a concern is the now 2" inlet, is that too big a stepdown, and with the pump expecting a 2" supply, the impact on PSI for the system. Assume no changes, but before changing, I am not going to re-trench for the valves, but it is only about 5" to the wellhead, so may follow the 1 1/4 intake line. As I recall from 20 years ago, there were 2 well drops joined at a T, and if so, may replace the T to accommodate 1 1/4 from the 2 drops, and output either 1 1/2 or 2 to the pump. Any advantage to upgrade for 1 1/2HP to 2HP and potentially increase the PSI and decreasing zone run time?
Are you withdrawing water from the lake or from a well
@@progreengroundservices4038 Well. As I recall there are 2 Brady Blue wellpoints about 10 or 15 feet apart both pulling water from a 20-25' depth and connected to a "T" for a single line to the pump intake. That "T" is 4 or 5 feet from the pump so won't be a hard dig to confirm my 20 year memory. (That is why we don't have basements in Florida!) The Brady's are 1 1/4 so doesn't surprise me why made the entire intake system 1 1/4, but in retrospect with 2 wells, could have easily gained more water flow with a 1 1/2 (or possible push 2") from the T output to the pump. Leaving the sprinkler system untouched at output from pump is to1 1/4 to control valves then drop to 3/4 for each circuit. Would be easy to convert first box of 3 valves as only a few feet from pump, but the second box of 3 valves would require trenching over 100 feet to other side of the house. Satisfied with system performance and pump pressure at 35 GPM. My only concern id that they are now manufacturing pumps with a 2" intake, and with the obvious stepdowns don't know if my 1 1/4 line feeding the pump is going to be enough to maintain to maintain the 35PSI which I know works when the pump is engineered to expect a 2" intake vs 1 1/2 on the old pump.
@@larrygray1557 ok I think can you shorten the question for me? I want to make sure i have the right question for you
I grew up in the trade with my father who subcontracts doing installs on new houses. Much has changed since then. Ive also been liscensed in the state of Texas. Ive never met anyone with more knowledge and or experience. I have pulled permits and designed systems with pro contractor. Right now i work for a company doing commercial repairs. All that to say, everyone has thier way of doing things but many times there is a RIGHT way to do a repair or install. Most of it has to do with overall efficiency.
Well said !!

Thanks for the helpful vid. I'm having a rough time determining if my valves are Toro or Irritrol to buy the right parts since the jar top styles look so similar to me. Any advice?

I had been procrastinating to fix my sprinkler system, thanks to you my grass is getting green again. I appreciate the video.
Thank you so much!! it really inspires me to keep going!!
how do you connect the small motor on rust tank in coordination with pump start relay and Rain Bird timer?
You would cut the pigtail off to the pump and connected to the relay. Then from there it can operate from the clock. If you know how to wire everything up power in power out the power is coming from your breaker power out is going to the pump then your 24 V will be going to the timer so we can turn it on every time the sprinklers are on.
ive been doing irrigation a total of 10 plus years. i live in fla and need to find out how to take this test. did you purchase books on line?
You’re better off going to your local municipality downtown. And go to your contractor and licensing division and they have books that they recommend to buy with the books are for purchase.
You also have the option of becoming a license local irrigation contractor or a state local irrigation contractor. What’s the difference? The local irrigation contractor gives you the same permit pulling abilities as the state license but you’re restricted in your local county and if you want to get registered in another county, you will have to get registeredand apply for reciprocity in the county and you have two separate licenses and you’ll be local in that county. Or you can go for the state and you can pretty much go anywhere you want within the state pulling permits.
@@progreengroundservices4038 thanks a lot for this information brother. you have a blessed day. I'm up in West Palm Beach so i got to plan a stop at the license
@@Joejoeiceman057 are used to live in West Palm Beach right off blue Heron Boulevard back in my younger days. You should be able to get it right down there at the billing department. I used to live in Port St. Lucie.
Do you have a video that describes how to troubleshoot our irrigation issue? When we turned our sprinklers on this spring, we would get water for a few minutes then the pump would warm up and shut off. We eventually replaced the entire pump. Sprinklers will now water for (at most) 10 minutes then stop. We hope you have a video that can help us troubleshoot issues other than the pump. Thank you! :)

We know our pump is working (it's brand new) but it will get warm and turn off after only a few minutes. Do you have any videos to show us how to troubleshoot water issues or something other than the pump? Thank you.

At 1:36 it looks like there might be a hole in the bottom of the 3/4” sprinkler. 🫢 Where can I get the 1/2” blue barb fittings? I’ve never seen them in blue. So pretty. I bet they stand out making them easier to see when digging around a head. Thanks for the great tips!
Nicely done. What a beautiful yard and fence.
Thank you! I really appreciate you watching the videos that means a lot. It’s also inspiring when my channel will be as big as yours.
I’ve gone through 2 rain sensors in 2 years. The cork and spring types don’t last long then cause your system to never turn on. I upgraded to a smart wifi timer with zipcode rain delays and never have to worry about the rain sensor again. With that said, when rain sensors do work they work very well and are a mandatory addition when under water restrictions, especially for California who seem to have perpetual water restrictions.
Unusual timer. Seems the most popular is Rachio, Orbit B-Hyve, Hunter, and Rainbird. What were the cool features about this one that made you want to try it? The B-Hyve and Rachio have the same features but Orbit has practically zero support. Rachio has good forum support. These are thingsyou don’t know until you purchase them and need support.
It’s fast response time and it’s cheaper
Can you hook it up to suction line so it cleans out rust and calcium in the bottle type filter too? That could be a nice benefit to adding it below the filter on the suction line?
I like the concrete donuts. Moved into a house and the previous homeowner left an irrigation map. But I ended up finding about 7 heads that were not on the map and covered over by grass. The donuts at least made me less concerned about digging and locating sprinkler heads.
I am just now starting to watch the first video of yours ive seen. You just seem genuine to me
That’s how you have to be! I’m just living
How to properly ground and protect against lightning strikes in a how to video would be nice.
Ohh that’s cool! Didn’t know that was possible. I’ve been putting down fertilizer with a scotts spreader. I’d love to learn more about this!
I will jump on this for you
Been binge watching some of your videos they're great! Except going back 3 years you can hear the fire alarm beeping in the background. How can you live with that? It's supposed to be annoying on purpose to get you to change it. Get you a 9V battery, a ladder if needed, and change that darn fire alarm battery! It's not supposed to beep and you're not supposed to just "live with it". If you want one way to improve your videos that's definitely a highly underrated way to. People hear that beep in your voice overs and immediately think "too lazy to change the battery on a fire alarm why would i want someone like that working on my house"... Some people will stop watching a video the first time they hear that beep. Seriously. God bless you, just trying to help because I think you are pretty amazing at what you do and can benefit others to learn from.
Thank you so much I never knew it bothers people I will fix that lol!!!
I don't have a pressure gauge or blow off valve on my irrigation pump. The pressure gauge would be nice to have and obvious purpose. I need to do some research on what a blow off valve is and why it's needed. When mentioning other videos use youtube's editor to insert a v-card so the video you're referencing shows up as a clickable preview in the top right corner of the video. It will be in your youtube studio editor as "cards".
I will that
Holy cow that's a lot of sprinklers at full pressure. What kind of well and pump does something like that need?
I've seen those slip fittings in a couple other videos but not many. Can you make a video where you show using it in a repair? I'd be interested in hearing more about them. As a homeowner, digging, piping, priming, etc.. can be a little intimidating. For you it's a career and with experience everything seems easy. To a homeowner who's never laid a single irrigation pipe It seems like a lot to get the cut lengths just right etc.. An adjustable fitting like that is less intimidating if you screw up the cut length.
Geez how they gonna run over someone's valve box when it's clearly visible with no sod around it? Did the sod company have to pay for the damage? Nice new manifold though. Hey how you gonna let the controller wires dangle out of the conduit under the clock like that at 1:10? That bit could have been improved.
I don’t know if the side company had to pay that’s between the homeowner and them I just had to make sure they were up and running
Your installs look more professional than a lot of "professional" hacks I've seen on youtube. You're the real deal, with real experience, and not just BS'ing your way through videos where you talk more than you work. Heck yeah I'll watch more. Keep the content coming.
My father taught me the trade… then when I became a young man I ran with it. I achieved my state irrigation contractors license, and I started my own company and I’ve never been busier.
Subscribed because one of your videos really helped. Moved into a house that has an irrigation system. Learning how to operate and maintain it is a journey in itself. I appreciate your advice. Keep making content with tips and tricks. I was uhhh just replacing heads at random with no sense of what my system is capable of in GPM or what heads to use. It working 10 times better now that I cleaned the filter (that I didn't know existed until watching one of your videos).
You have inspired me to keep making formable videos I will keep doing it
I'm in Central FL and I have that same filter thing on my main suction line. It's got a STARITE DS3-HF 1.5HP jet pump straight into the ground for irrigation only. Uses a hunter pump start relay PSR22 and Orbit B-Hyve controller. Was getting random low pressure issues. Had an irrigation guy come out and he changed all the solenoids, inspected the 3 zone valves, etc... but couldn't figure out the random pressure issue. I never realized I was getting about 1/4 normal pressure. Sometimes just a trickle with no pressure to pop the heads up, and/or a slow bleed down from half pressure to no pressure after about 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It was randomly bizarre behavior. The filter I have is about 1/2 the size as the one you show in this video. They must come in different sizes. I took out the filter and it was completely gunked up, couldn't even see the screen. It had some hard calcification on the clear plastic wall I couldn't get off. I have one of those old time brass straight nozzle on my garden hose, put it right inside the filter and blew it clean from the inside out. It didn't damage the screen material thankfully. I now have full pressure like I've never seen since I moved in. My 32SA rotor heads went from throwing 5 feet (when they worked) to throwing 20 feet! I had to go around and adjust every head again and this time I was happy to do it. This video 100% helped! God Bless You! Cheers! 🍻
That’s my friend is a testimony!!!! Spread the word
You need to replace the battery in your smoke detector!
