I proper enjoyed this one, I would definitely have been on the treadmill fair play the lads getting out in that snow ⛄️
A lot of the group were on the treadmill as couldn’t travel but those that could make it made the best of it. something different to mix up the training!
When snow falls I always look for a smooth grass surface -cricket/soccer/rugby field or similar that you know is an even level surface underneath the snow. Use off road shoes (or X Country spikes) and there is no problem. The difficulties come when you can't be sure what lies underneath the snow potholes, kerbs etc. Once really damaged a hamstring by stepping off o kerb I simply couldn't see and the landing was about nine inches lower than expected. Always train! When i was training seriously gyms and treadmills were very rare, non existent for most runners!
We’re quite lucky to have the Tonbridge School fields available for us to train on. We use them for grass sessions in the summer too so the group know the ground pretty well. We looked at training on roads etc but just too dangerous. like you say just a case of having to run somewhere where you know and can trust the surface!
