      @ericcharpentier01 That's awesome, I'm glad I could help! The tonneau is called "Pace Edwards Ultragroove" from Leer. It's a decent cover. Hi. These aspects seems so relevant. Thanks to be so honest. I made many offroad adventures (now so called overloading...) and they are my passion. As it is from young the movie making and the image. I'm considering creating a channel to share previous and future adventures... One question is always the tradeoff between being there or being recording the moment... I'm curious how other people solve this dilema... I saw a video from Brandon Li that referred as his method to be a film maker early in the morning and the end of the day (golden hours) and to make a break during the day... I'm curious how other filmmakers/youtubers manage this... Another aspect I'm very interested are the selection of cameras. In particular what camera to create the view from the car. A mirrorless, an action camera, ... An the best way to mount it offroad... And the routine while traveling... Thanks for this great video!

    On my 3rd set of duratracs in different sizes on different vehicles. I'm on a set of 35s now, noticed a drastic drop in performance over the last year, I would say after 30k miles. Same as you, slipping on flat pavement, mostly in damp/fog conditions, but also dry traction significantly down from when new. I noticed it when the siping started to disappear on the tread blocks. The lugs are siped down to only about halfway deep into the lugs, if that. Got on here looking to see if anyone else experienced this significant drop in performance and I am not alone. Duratracs have been my go-to for the last ten years because of how great they are in northeast winters, but I may try something new. Def much sketchier in the wet than they used to be. I haven't experienced the increased noise though. Good review.

    You hit the nail right on the head when you said if something is too difficult or a hassle to use, human nature, as you will not use it. I am running a RAM Power Wagon with an Alu Cabin. I love having all the extra space, however the danger lies in taking too much unnecessary gear. Prior to this I was running an F350 with a Northstar truck camper. While I loved the slide in camper, it was way too big and too heavy to do any type of serious offloading. I have always camped with a full-size truck, but that has its drawback on tight trails. Every time I go out, I evaluate my gear and look at what I can eliminate. I have found that simple is better. The easier than more organized that my living set up is on the road, the happier I am. I love being able to pull into camp and be set up inside of 10 minutes. Breaking down is equally as quick and simple. The one feature that I love about the Alu Cab is that you can leave all of your bedding in place and then some. Quick and easy is key.

    I didn’t know the gazelle gazebo was able to have a fire inside! Would you say it’s a good alternative to a rack mounted awning?

    • @varsityoverland
      @varsityoverland 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We've been able to use the firecan inside the gazebo because it doesn't release any smoke, so keep that in mind. Also, we only put wind panels on 3 of the walls and left the others untouched to allow air flow. We've used this setup half a dozen times and it warms up pretty quick. I'd say it compliments a vehicle mounted awning. In the event of a heavy downpour, I'd say a vehicle awning (like a 270) would deploy faster.

  • @Alucamp2019
    @Alucamp2019 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Your video was insightful and your candidness is greatly appreciated. I’m running the Alu Cab 270° Shadow Awning on my Alu Cabin. This is my first 270° awning and this thing is rock solid! Most days I just open it and leave it unsupported. It can withstand a decent amount of wind all by itself, but with the leg down and the heavy tiedown straps staked into the ground, this thing is going nowhere. It is virtually bombproof. Last year at Expo East 2023 I left the awning open and unsupported while we walked through the show. In the latter part of the afternoon, the wind kicked up pretty good. As I hightailed back to the rig I watched in horror as other awnings buckled. I fully expected to find a mangled mess hanging off of my camper. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my awning had not budged. Needless to say, I staked it down and went back into the show without worrying again. The price point of the Alu Cab 270° Shadow Awning is higher than most but in my opinion it is worth every penny!

    Nice set up and thanks for posting. I’m curious to know if this rack system would be compatible and/or work for a truck with a foldable tonneau cover? And is it possible to mount a cargo box on those crossbars, assuming they’re not too wide which will affect the actual clamps on the box from properly securing. Thanks

      @LuisPerez-vy6bz Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, I've never seen one compatible with a foldable tonneau cover. Although Yakima is releasing new products all of the time so maybe messaging them directly is worth a shot. I think it's possible to mount cases to the side rails. They also make a molle panel option now that replaces the side rail. That might be a better option because of the flat surface.

      @ thanks for the info and I’ll keep that in mind. I’ll keep an eye out if not, I have an idea of how ll end up setting it up without having to upgrade to a RetraxPro for my truck.

      @@LuisPerez-vy6bz the guys at the local shop I work with have shared some ideas about modifying bedracks to work with foldable covers. I'm sure if Yakima does carry a product to do it, you could still find a way to DIY it.

      @ sweet! Now im curious to know what exactly they’re referring to, since I want to start getting this project going before Spring rolls around. Much appreciated!
