    Don't you think there's also a good chance players like Wolfey consistently do well because of the fact that they are the best ones at avoiding situations where predicts are necessary? Of course predicting is always a thing in Pokémon, but I think what really makes a player great is the ability to avoid it as much as possible, because there are some situations when it actually does come down to luck. This is more of a singles example, but a 1v1 against a pokemon that has sucker punch (and can kill your pokemon with it) is basically a 50/50. You might even know what they other player plays like generally, but in situations like this one it's not uncommon for good players to just switch up what they usually do, so it ends up being as random as it can humanly be

    • @IanHvgc
      @IanHvgc 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@nebulousnight Of course! The more you can avoid having to make reads, the better. But when both players are playing optimally, having to make reads is unavoidable. It's impossible to win a tournament without getting multiple reads correctly AND getting very lucky. The point of the video is that reads aren't always 100% luck, and your intuition is the *most* correct (not always correct) on read-based turns.

    making a web chart or chart that connects pokemon together would be fun. one color of line would be strong against, and the other weak against. in terms of the meta pokemon for each regulation!!

    How do you determine whether a mon is +1, neutral, or -1 into an opponent’s mon?

    • @IanHvgc
      @IanHvgc หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a combination of the type matchup and also who would win in a 1v1 scenario. For example, Palafin is -1 into Amoonguss because grass resists water and Palafin can't get around spore + rage powder. Palafin is +1 into Incineroar because fire is weak to water and Palafin can KO Incineroar before it moves. Palafin is neutral into garchomp because their attacks hit each other for neutral damage and they trade evenly in a 1v1. Hope that helps!

    you can also use intuition to assimilate and synthesize complexity, sometimes the game is just too complex and your sub-conscious mind has a better understanding of it than your conscious mind does (and maybe you don't have enough time too).

    Wanted to mention why Incineroar was such a great adjustment for Akhil in game 3. The only answers David had for Incin were Palafin and Pelipper, which Akhil saw he wasn't bringing due to them being weak to Archaludon. Akhil took a great opportunity to adjust to what his opponent was bringing and realized he didn't need to bring amoonguss for palafin, which is why he was able to win game 3 in such a dominant fashion.

    • @IanHvgc
      @IanHvgc หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tera situations like that are some of the closest things we have to actual coinflips right now. A lot of the time you just have to go with your gut and send it. Some tips: - They are less likely to tera if you have something that can pin the tera, even if it's not currently on the field. - They are less likely to tera the earlier the game is and more likely the more time has passed. Good players will generally try to hold on to their tera as long as possible unless they can decide the game immediately.

      I learned it depended on someones mood. I tested it by loosening up and making my little sister happy/comfortable for paper, then getting serious with my cousin for rock. It worked but I assumed it did heighten the chance. Regardless everything is still randomized and there's a chance that nothing will go your way. I've had video games where someone would never fall for something then the one time I switched it up, they also switched up. Humans aren't robots but we still have methods

    Boosting engagement and also assuring viewers that matchup counting two teams and identifying highest pressure leads all in 90 seconds is in fact difficult and will take time/practice

    • @IanHvgc
      @IanHvgc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% - 90 seconds is not a lot of time. This takes thousands of reps to master, and will become more natural the more you play. My advice is to start by just counting for the main offensive threats on your and your opponent's teams.
