Why won't any of her children let her live with them? I just don't understand this at all. Even sleeping on a couch would be better than sleeping on the street, or in a tent. If they don't want her boyfriend there, okay, let him sleep in the tent and visit him. I just don't get this at all.

She needs to heal from the loss of her dad. She went right back to the initial loss of him, I could see in her body language. 4 years she should be able to speak about it without reliving it. Dealing with the constant chaos of life on the streets has likely made it that she cannot properly grieve and heal.

Much appreciated.

Our cruel culture. Children should be caring for their parents. Family should be helping family. Since she's on SSI she can contribute to her daughter's household in return for a roof and bed. Eastern cultures still do this right...hope karma gets those who refuse to help elderly parents...at least know YOUR kids are watching and will model after you someday. In other words, this could very well be future you.

A vast number are there for psychological reasons whether it be PTSD, a schizoeffective disorder or simply insurmountable depression. The actual number of homeless people suffering severe psychological ailments is around 25% as compared to 4-6% of the rest of the population. It can be hard to hold a job when all you want to do is kill yourself at the will of all the voices in your head. Further, speaking from experience, the drugs come second for a lot of these people as a way of treating what was there to begin with. Not to say there arent those who just got addicted and lost everything, but we have to remember addiction is a disease like any other and even if it starts with one bad decision, most people would be unable to resist doing it again after the first time they try hard drugs; especially those used intravenously. You are more than likely just fortunate on the draw of brain configuration and mental state, and probably also of financial freedom. Im guessing you didnt have to want for much growing up and youve probably never struggled to pay doctors bills just to get meds that make you feel like shit. Youve probably never been in danger of freezing to death or experienced the challenges of trying to get a job or place to live after getting either evicted or charged with a felony. Basically your life is on easy mode and youre talking shit on people whos lives are far more complex and challenging than yours probably ever will be. Making generalizations about entire groups of people like that says a lot more about you than the people youre talking about.
