Lampern or Lamprey, Lampern are fresh water and lampreys are migratory, Also need to undo all the work that was done in the late 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s

I do wonder how many people don’t have an understanding that the river they see today isn’t a natural feature, but a managed feature, the management of many people over centuries have given rise to what we see now. The current cry’s around dredging, for flood alleviation misses the prime point. People have, and continue to, build on flood plains which are essential for river needs somewhere to go in spate. Dredging destroys, straightens, kills a river. It needs to meander, slow down, spread out and loose a lot of its energy instead of long straight deep channels.

The two things I've been watching today - river restorations and clips from the wire - all come together in the restoration of the river "Avon".

@@pam9470 wow! That's kind of ironic because I just watched a few of them. And before that I was all about watching beavers

It must be a water thing James - after the long Jan 2021-May 2021 break a friend and I discovered we had both watched the same USA chap who spent an hour+ unplugging a drain in a lake. It gave us quite a laugh, but it didn't become as addictive as the river restoration efforts!

Hi Pam, In making this video I attempted to combine historical background to land drainage practice, river ecology and river-mending techniques, so really pleased it chimed with you. Thanks for your support! ATB Simon 'C'

At last a video that provides information and science in a compact way. My only reservation is that there was very intrusive background music which was absolutely not needed. When will program makers realize that speech and commentary [especially one designed to impart information] must not be accompanied by music. Despite what sound technicians and video makers think, combining together two separate sound streams is an intolerable nuisance.

Wonderful to see. I wonder what can be done about the ruthlessly destructive Ranunculus weed cutting that is carried out in summer, on rivers such as the Hampshire Avon?

amazing, I hope to be involved in a project like this someday. These projects should be implented around the world to restore our highly degraded waterways so that they can provide a healthy habitat for plant and animal life. It will also help people because of the cleaner water and thriving animals than can be used for food (fish, amphibians, waterfowl, etc).
