Like anything in colour theory… there a multiple “rules of thumb”. They all work based on what the artist/colour editor are trying to achieve. This one is pretty cool and based on the explanation I get it. Makes a lot of sense.

These dumb rules ruined natural look of majority of my movies after Matrix, it was part of style in it, but everyone else gone crazy with weird color grading that ruined wide color range in movies and turned it into teal orange or brown grey mess. Movies from 80th and 90th are still more pleasant to look at because of natural diverse and vibrant colors than a the modern color graded crap that follows such dumb rules and desaturates and decolorize everything. Do not follow any rules, they are limiting your way of thinking and your imagination! Creativity doesn't have any rules, they limit creativity and make everything look the same like most of movies in last 25 years. Search for Real orange madness and look for yourself how much majority of people hate those dumb rules.
