is it just me or the sport use to be bigger ?

This was the first challenge cup final that I had watched on tv and I was nine years old at the time. My dad took me to my first rugby league game at naughton park in September 1982. I am a Widnes Vikings fan. Even though we got beat that day, I became hooked on the game of rugby league. A real cracking game to watch.

Legends.

A total privilege to be there that day. Travelling down to the capital from our small mining community in Featherstone. This was true Yorkshire grit and a day I shall never forget in the rugby league glory days before Super League came along and destroyed the game. No foreign players just home bred talent. The game has gone backwards since the Aussie Murdoch took over with his Sky deals. Thank goodness Featherstone Rovers did not amalgamate and kept their identity. Amazing memories. Well deserved, Hull went in too cocky thinking they would win easy and we got beat. Couple of iffy decisions, particularly the last scrum IIRC but nothing really ridiculous. Was there as a 14 year old, came away and didn't feel terribly dissapointed tbh and was giving thumbs up to the Fev fans on the way back. Hobbs was a top player, with video review that first try would never have being given, Jimmy Leu was not a great defensive centre and neither was Prendeville much cop at all 10.5st lol Keith Bridges was a fucking disgrace, lost most of the scrums and fell off tackles everywhere, Tony Duke would have been better.
