Travel with Tanya and Simon
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 มิ.ย. 2024
🇦🇺 We're two Aussies with a passion for travelling the world. Although we are still working to fund our travels, we are counting down to retirement and dreaming of a life of slow travel. Until then, we will continue to explore as many countries as we can and enjoy the experiences that different cultures bring.
Our channel shares information on destinations, sightseeing, food and accommodations.
💸 Tanya can be a little tight with her money, so expect some great tips on travelling on a budget.
We will also be sharing our journey as we move to early retirement and slow travelling. We aren't nervous at all.....honest!
✍🏼 For years we have been documenting our travels on our travel blog (link below) but we are ready for a change. TH-cam is a new adventure for us and we are sure it will be lots of fun and perhaps a little cringe worthy for our son.

thank you! Great tips. The SmartEx app is not available to download in the UK. Just online. What do you recommend for internet use?
Great walking town absolutely lovely
Very walkable, even with the hills.
Absolutely Beautiful Cathedral? 😂😅 On WC23 I stopped taking photos of the buildings with a Tower or Spire. We saw a gazillion Cs.
They do start to add up heh.
I am a kiwi, left for OZ inn1979. Visit regularly on cruises, but only just discovered the Artisan Markets. Cannot work out where they are. When you come out back door of Terminal Building, and walk along that short street to pedestrian crossing, where are the Markets. I will be there in April & want to go & have a look.
Hi! They were in the Town Hall. When you come out of the port it was the first street to the left I think. It is the big white building that was behind me when I mentioned the markets. Hopefully they will be open for. you when you are there. Have a great trip!
Such an amazing adventure through Dunedin and Lyttelton!
We had a great time even though we were both pretty unwell.
@TravelwithTanyaandSimon feel sad to here it! What happened sir? Is any serious issue?
Just a cold. Nothing too bad. Travels still go on.
Thanks for the video…We doing Japan for first time in November 2025 staying at Centara Namba. cheers from Bendigo
Our pleasure. We really hope it helps you navigate a wonderful city. We have a few tips and tricks videos from Osaka if you haven't seen them. Enjoy your trip and don't get too addicted to a spectacular country!
Yay! Thanks for sharing! Our cruise will be at Keelung this March!
Our pleasure. Have a great time in Keelung. If you get the chance don’t miss a shaved ice dessert. They are so good!
New subscriber here. I'll be following along for tips and wisdom about the budget and the light travel! We're starting out slow travel journey in 2026 along with our youngest (he'll be 15 then.) We're excited to see the world and to show our son. Living minimally will also be an adventure and we're looking forward to the new type of freedom that provides.
Thank you so much for subscribing. How exciting to be doing it in 2026 and what a great experience it will be for your son. We can’t wait to do the trial and see if it is possible to retire early and do.. if you haven’t seen our carry on packing for our cruise last month check it out. I still overpacked and had things I didn’t wear. It was a good test. Next trip is South Korea so hopefully I will get it even better then.
Great tips for making the most of a Christchurch port visit! Perfect for budget-conscious travelers
Thanks. We loved this visit and it was so easy to do on a budget!
@TravelwithTanyaandSimon yes it is! Thanks for the information
Catch the free shuttle into Lyttelton and get on the special no8 for a day pass of $10nz drops you off into Christchurch bus exchange
Great tip!
The staff are forever changing at FnHs. Barmaid couldn't tell u the beer name says it all. Not my favourite food. I've lived on Mt Tamborine since 1998. Great glimpse of Mt T. Well done.
Indeed. This was our first ever TH-cam video! You are very lucky living up there. It’s absolutely stunning.
Amazing food n drink choices at Riverside Markets. Coffee was tons better than ShiP Coffee, that ends with a T. Taxi from Markets to Ship was $28 for 4 of us. International Antarctic Centre was Brilliant
Thanks for the extra info re a taxi. I wondered how much it would have been. That makes it a great price for 4 and much better than the shuttle price.
Watched a few of your videos, they are great! Thanks guys
Thanks for the support. We have fun making them ❤️❤️
Did you pay for your tickets with a credit card or with cash? Thanks!
We used Suica cards on our iPhones. You can load it into your wallet and top up funds as you go. It is really a great way to travel on the trains as no waiting at ticket machines or trying to work out prices. If you look at our Japan tips video there’s a bit in it about it.
@@TravelwithTanyaandSimon thanks - I have an android. Apparently, tourists need an iPhone for the electronic version.
You can pick up a physical Suica or Pasmo and top up using the machines. Will work the same.
Thank you for sharing, im trying to plan our first trip and getting overwhelmed, but seeing what everything looks like inregards to the stations and platforms is super helpful, youve gotten yourself another follower 🙌🙌
Thank you so much for your support. We love helping others find travel easier. ❤️❤️❤️
Planning my first trip to Japan and this was so easy to follow. Thanks for the great tips on planning travel!
So glad you found it useful. We’ve got a few other tips and tricks video for Osaka. Happy to answer any questions if they come up. We love Japan. Definitely one of our favourite places.
We loved Napier. It was cold and wet when we were there.
It’s a beautiful town. So picturesque.
Have a good time in Napier ❤
lol bit too much coke when you’re young love 👍🍻🍻😉
We Loved Auckland and the Weta Workshop was amazing. Nice video and glad you had a good time.
It’s our third cruise here and we’ve found something different to do each time. If you haven’t been to Weta in Wellington and find yourself in Wellington, go as it’s even better.
Have a good time! Love your videos keep it up ❤
It’s been an interesting cruise! Cancelled port and gastro onboard. Hasn’t stopped the enjoyment though!
@TravelwithTanyaandSimon yeah that's true, really awesome things. I was try to find this type of informative and interesting video.
I don’t intend to visit Japan in the near future, but thank you for trying to help you fellow, travelers
Thanks David
It can be done. As a reminder just because you weigh it, you will still be required to weigh it at list airports. Looks like a great bag but not sure how comfortable it will be as a back pack of your having to pack it for long periods of time. Good luck and great to see you guys trying different ways to travel. Not saying my videos on packing are great but I did one on using the back pack.
Thanks! We will check out your video :)
You will need to get lighter bags. These bags look great but if you are going to get under 7kg you will need to get a lighter bag.
How do you play frustration? I always love a new card game 🙂
If I remember when I get back from our trip I’ll send you a link of the rules. I can’t upload a photo on this so will need to save it to google docs and give you the link. If I forget just remind me in two weeks.
Hey! Just remembered… would make a joke about being punctual but I don’t quite have the time to (HaHa!) anyway, could I get some instructions on how to play frustration? I hope it’s a game for a lot of people because I have a family members birthday soon!
lol too funny. We are actually now at the airport heading somewhere else. I have a photo of the rules on my phone though. If you flick me an email in the email address on our channel I’ll email a copy of it to you. I don’t have my laptop with me to load to google docs and no idea of if I can do it on my phone 😀
lol! It took me ages to log into my email because the internet is slow and now I’m just coming to realise that I can’t find the email on your channel 🤦♀️ I think im just not looking properly, can you tell me where I can find it please?
@JanineParker-b5o tanyaandsimon1@gmail.com ❤️
This is truly inspirational!!
That or crazy 😂
Did you actually weigh your luggage. It would be interesting to know what the weight was.
It was just over 7 at one point then I loaded it up more 😂 next year will need to be strict on the 7-10kg
Which cruise line is your relocation cruise with
Princess Cruises ❤️
Amazing!!!
Thanks June
Traveling only using a carry on or a back pack can be done when you realize how much you really dont need. We’ve been doing this for a few years now and have learned along the way what we need and dont need. Enjoy and loved watching your channel. safe travels.
Thanks. We are off to New Zealand today!
safe travels. We loved New Zealand@@TravelwithTanyaandSimon
@@retireearlyandtravelthewor8507 thanks. Third time we’ve cruised there. Looking forward to some relaxation. Look forward to watching more of your videos in our down time.
What an amazing year 2025 will be for the both of you. Angela and I will be looking forward to your regular updates, especially the vids on those long open sea days that I look back on so fondly 😂
There’s even more sea days than when we did it together 😳
@TravelwithTanyaandSimon oh what fun. 😝
I didn’t know there were different types of travel 🤔 I always though that holidays were meant to be slow and relaxing but I guess when you’re a content creator you have to cram stuff in
Our last trip to Osaka was so fast! ( days and we filmed about 12 videos worth. Wasn’t relaxing at all 🤷♀️ mind you after so many prior trips we didn’t mind. We are very excited at what 2025 will bring.
You guys are awesome! Slow travel (as we're learning) is definitely the way to go. You actually get to know a place and the people. It's a whole different experience! And $100 per day is totally doable, but it also really forces you to think creatively and adapt. We're one month into our three months in Japan, and we're fairly on budget at $100 per day. We look forward to seeing how $100 per day works for you!
We are going to try $100 Australian a day. Will be a challenge I think. We’ve seen a lot doing $100 US a day. Can’t wait to try on our longer trip. We ended up booking Tokyo for June/July for a week. We won’t be doing that on the tight budget though. Our accommodation blows that budget. Can’t wait to see more of your travels.
Life saver! 😎👌🏻🙌🏻💯
Hope it helps 👍👍
After filming we ended up booking another Japan trip in June. So much to look forward to ❤❤❤❤
Can’t wait for the packing video
Filming this afternoon. It will be out next Sunday. Only time will tell if a carry on will hold enough!
its always fun watching others pack for thier trips. I went from a large suitcase, down to a carry on and back pack for 5-6 months of traveling. its amazing what you really dont need when you travel.
We can’t wait to see how it goes next year. The only downside are the airline weight rules. Not sure how to navigate those but we can only try!
just make sure you look at every airline you plan on taking for it changes from airline to airline. We learned the hard way. Safe travels. @@TravelwithTanyaandSimon
Did they give you a warning for the uneven ground or did you find out the hard way?
Not that I saw. I have trouble walking on flat ground so it was entertaining.
Great video Dear enjoyed it. may be flying from Vancouver to taipei ... thinking come few days earlier just before the cruise :)thx again
Our pleasure. Hope it helped. We really enjoyed our time there.
What I want to say is that I spent less than $ 100 from the fake LV I bought from kislux . The quality is very good. I spent four years on the plane, the bus, and anywhere. As a rag. I specially smelled the bag and compared the stitching color. This is the most authentic I have ever seen. To this day, this bag is still very strong. Although it has been abused, the material is still great.
If I had $40,000, I would buy 100 bags on kislux instead of designer luxury items. The money can be a down payment on a house, but it can't just be a package.
Each to their own. Luckily the world is full of people who enjoy different things. It would be very boring if we were all the same. Thanks for clicking on our video 👍
I love the bag you showed . Do you know if the knockoff bag kislux is made in China? Another great video!
Sorry not even aware what kislux is 😂
Want to try this!
They're permanently closed now according to Google
There weren’t many people in there when we went in September.
@@TravelwithTanyaandSimon It was an interesting idea, but doing it in Osaka (and in Dotonbori, of all places) didn't seem like the best fit considering all the good food there
Absolutely. We felt a bit ripped off that we have spent that much and could have gone to one of our favourite places instead. It was an experience though. A very strange idea!
Great video I didn't even know this place existed that is an awesome find!
I wish it had still had the freezer of Hagen Dazs. I wanted to see how much I could fit in for the 60 minutes!
@TravelwithTanyaandSimon as someone infected with lactose intolerance I would still like to try that 😋
Lol
Wow. This is really excellent.. Thank you very much for your hard work and detailed instructions. We like to DIY the ports. Freedom to go at your own pace. 😊😊
Our pleasure. We love Osaka and have been many times. We did quite a few videos when we were there in September. Check out our amazing pass two part videos. It might give you some ideas of things to do while you’re in port. It’s really easy to get around. Enjoy your trip.
What a shame about the Haagen Dasz! That alone would be enough to get me through the door... Does Japan have Haagen Dasz parlours?
I was seriously going to see how much ice cream I could eat in 60 minutes 😂 not sure if the have parlours but the 7elevens have different flavoured rubs.
We went to the shabu shabu restaurant you recommended in this video. It was great and cheap! Thanks for the recommendation!!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Definitely looks like a novelty experience! 😂 Good for you for trying it out. Travel is all about adventures!
Always worth a try
Well, that was certainly a different experience. Being a very slow eater I wouldn’t like to be rushed to finish in a certain time 😮
It’s not for a slow eater
"Ren-tin Shokudo sounds like a hidden gem! 🍣🍜 Buffets with a unique twist are always a must-try.
I was so excited as when it first opened it had a freezer full of Hagen Dazs ice cream. It doesn’t anymore so I was disappointed.
@TravelwithTanyaandSimon so sad for it. I feel it. Maybe you love hagen dazs too much😢
