    Do cigars generally taste good with wine or is it rarely a match ?

    • @AD-kv9kj
      @AD-kv9kj 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It just depends. Try things for yourself that you think you may enjoy together, then find out. I'd recommend from my personal preferences to drink with cigars that a nice, soft sparkling wine can go really well - the flavour is delicate and refreshing and also the fizz helps clean the palate. Any wine that's particularly tart or sharp tasting won't compliment too well. Heavy tannin wines coat the palate with tannins. I used to try more red wines with cigars, some were nicer than others and also the cigars tended to be fuller bodied. However these days I've settled on my favourite drinks with cigars to be coffee (whatever style I fancy at the time really), a good complex single malt (particularly Lagavulin) and glass of water or a soft sparkling wine of some sort.

    Cuban tobacco is the best, margin isn't as wide as many think among Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican tobacco...but the construction isn't as consistent in my experience

    Hi UK Cigar Scene! Great Vid! Thank you Nic Wing! I'd just like to reconfirm that are all Cuban cigars frozen prior to sale/release? I thought this wasn't done and only NC cigars were frozen to prevent tobacco beetles? Also when did the Cuban Cigar industry start freezing their cigars prior to them being sold? Thanks, Dencof

    the hygrometer you are using comes with a manual. The manual says NOT to do the salt test

    • @ukcigarscene3664
      @ukcigarscene3664 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fascinating dichaos. Why do you think that is? Can't do the mechanism any damage as the salt gives off humidity at a level which should be well within the level the unit measures.

    • @dichaos
      @dichaos 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Salt water is an electrolyte which conducts ions, speeding up rusting. Fascinating indeed. Get a Boveda One-Step Hygrometer Calibration Kit instead for 6£.

    • @ukcigarscene3664
      @ukcigarscene3664 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surely it's the water which has evaporated which gets into the hygrometer. That's not going to contain any salt is it? It would have to be direct contact with the salt/salt water. Having said that I'm going to order a Boveda pack and give it a go, thanks for the information.

    Great Interview again Nic as always. I tend to notice there is a large focus on Cuban cigars and with these interviews and I disagree with James' comments when he claims that Havana, Cuba has the best quality tobaccos in the world. They most likely did have the best tobaccos in the world for hundreds of years, but it's safe to say that in the last 20 years, the quality of tobaccos from Nicaragua, Peru, Mexico, Dominican Republic and in some other countries around the world has greatly improved and are now undoubtedly rivalling the quality of tobacco grown and produced in Havana, Cuba, especially in the much higher quality brands of cigars being manufactured in other countries nowadays. Just some observations I have made as a cigar smoker for 20 years.

      If you like cigars and you want to try something completely new for the most of people, come in Tuscany, in particular to Sansepolcro, near Arezzo, and try the cigars of CTS (compagnia toscana sigari), like "Mastro Tornabuoni Long" or "Stortignaccolo" ;)

      I can agree and disagree. Taste is such a subjective thing. I started smoking cigars with non Cuban varieties and settling mainly on Padrons. I was then given a sampler of Cuban cigars. And to honest Cuban cigars have the best flavors for my palate. So much so that if I couldn’t get Cuban cigars anymore I’d stop smoking all together. Fantastic video and discussion guys. Enjoy the comments.

      100 per cent. not only the tobacco,, but construction, quality control, variety, all of it. they use automation in their curing barns, vertically integrated operations where the same people control the whole process seed to smoke. you get so much more variety also. cubans are all puros, its all leaf from cuba. these new world cats use leaf from all over the americas. the variety is beautiful. sumatras and mexicans and ecuador and honduras, the DR. i dunno just far more interesting to smoke stuff from all over imo. the best cigars come from everywhere, but the most consistently well made ones come out of nica, regardless of where the leaf is grown. then you wanna talk about what youre getting for the price and its a no brainer. i smoke mainly cigars that use leaf grown at the aganorsa farms and lemme tell you, the embargo could be lifted tomorrow and it wouldnt change my routine in the least.

      there is something special about the soil in Cuba. but for me Nicaragua and Peru have a lovely flavor as well. Peru has a smoothness that u often don't get with that much flavor. I used to live in lima, and it was one of my favorite activities to go down to the water and have a fine cigar while the sunset. highly recommend it.

    Blimey the ASH nazis et al would have his dad strung up these days for "exposing" his little boy to cigar smoke! These people won't be happy until smoking of all stripes (including vaping) is illegal and banned altogether! Anyway,great interview.I very much agree with him in terms of "New World" cigars giving Cubans a good run for their money. I'm a huge fan of Nicaraguan tobacco and to my tastes at least the best of Nicaragua rivals and in some cases surpasses Cuba!

  • @Vortigan07
    @Vortigan07 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was pleasing to not hear the concept of band removal being referred to as a "British etiquette" notion.That's something that for some reason really irritates me.The idea that anyone would leave the band on as a means of "showing off" is,in my humble opinion,complete nonsense,certainly among the vast majority of cigar smokers at least. And the idea of taking it off immediately in order to remove any sense of one-upmanship is simply an irritating neurosis on the part of the smoker. The bands are pieces of artwork in their own right that someone has spent all their working day putting on and meticulously getting just right.If you're smoking a Cohiba Siglo VI,for example,amongst friends and have removed the band due to this etiquette rubbish what are you going to say when the almost inevitable question of what you're smoking comes up? Are you going to deny what it is and claim that it's just from from some cheap Honduran bundle that you picked up for £30?!! Seriously,build a bridge and get over it!

      +gcoundou Interesting, I don't use spills very often but I have never been aware of a particular flavour when using one. The spills made from the 'shim' within the cigar boxes have very little 'cedar oil left so I wouldn't expect a strong flavour from those.

    • @ukcigarscene3664
      @ukcigarscene3664 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Max Lewis Max, your cigar store or on line supplier should put the cigars in a sealed pouch or bag, this will keep them in good condition for 7 - 10 days. Any longer than this and my advice would be to ask them for a small Boveda humidification 'pouch'. This gives off a controlled level of humidity (you want somewhere between 64% and 70% RH). If you put your cigars in a zip lock bag with the pouch, they will keep for weeks. But open the bag every week to 10 days just to let a little oxygen in. We are working on a humidification video which will be out in the next 2-3 months. Keep watching the magazine.

      @killertakoz8D 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Max Lewis An airtight Tupperware container with Boveda humidity packs should do you just fine. I've got one that will hold ~40 cigars with 2 69%RH packs that keeps my cigars between 68 and 70 percent humidity. www.canadahumidor.com/passive_humidifiers/boveda_69_humidity_pack/ Here's a good page to give you an idea as to what you will personally need.
