Nissen Fundoplication w/ Hiatial Hernia repair history + post op + day 1
มุมมอง 79K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello! This is my history of living with GERD and seeking out a surgeon to perform my Nissen Fundoplication w/ Hiatal Hernia repair.I know this is a long video and a little all over the place but I go through preop and how Day 1 was. Let me know if you have any questions! Instagram : Alissaalissy
I will have my hiatal hernia surgery very soon. I was told that I would be on a liquid diet for 3 weeks, then I could start soft foods… Anyone else have an experience like that?
I’m 59 and have reflux for 2 yrs I have a large hiatus hernia and I also have AF and also had a stroke 7yrs ago which I made a full recovery I’m on meds for my AF and my stroke I’m a nurse and I have been a nurse for 40yrs this year for the NHS my hernia has been causing me a lot of pain I have put my self on a diet 3 days ago and have already lost 7lbs I also take Lansoprazole 40gs once a day for my reflux and hiatus hernia and this moment it is working so I’m hoping my July that I can lose 24kgs which I have to lose to get this hernia better because sometimes if you do it can make the hernia sometimes go back into place well thank you for your video and reassurance 😊😊
So many people have this condition. Drs dont do anything to find what is causing it they just give us medications. In Australia there is a potential class action for people whove been on reflux meds long term as it causes kidney damage. I'm one of them
I am just day two post op nissen Fundoplication and a hiatal hernia repair. I am experiencing a lot of the things that you went through.
Hi Alissa, your videos have been really encouraging for me. I am also in California forgive me if i missed it but can you orovide the doctor that performed ypur surgery? Please, i know it's been a few years now but maybe i can still find him. Thank you so much again and im so glad the surgery was good for you .
Thanks, doctor, for explaining hernia so well. I had a hernia a few years back and was looking for a natural way to manage it and came across Dr Udoka on TH-cam Channel,I can say am negative now
How is she doing now???
Can u eat normal? And after how many weeks ?
Thank you for sharing. The doctors do not advise you what would be the next steps if the prescriptions are not helping. Currently, I am having an acid coming up to my mouth. It's not a good feeling. It also seems that it gets worse if you have stress. Which is in my case. I will follow you and read the comments, so be more informed to determine what my next step would be.
@Alissa Christine how are you doing today?? By chance did you get dumping syndrome or Hypoglycemia from the surgery? As it is a now known cause due to do getting a Nissen. I hope you’re well with no issues and most of all acid reflux free
Hi, I’ve had reflux for years. After many tests I’m booked to have surgery first week of January. I am going to India for 3 weeks at the end of February, so 7 weeks after my surgery. The surgeon has said I will be fine to travel but I am worried I won’t have healed and be ok with the food there. We are staying in lovely places and have a driver so we are not slumming it but I am still very anxious. Should I postpone surgery until after my trip? This means I will have reflux while I’m away and I will be miserable or should I have the surgery and hope I’m recovered 7 weeks post surgery. Advice please. Oh, I have a small hiatus hernia and I am having a full Nissen fundoplication wrap. Thank you
Hayyy are you from india??

@@SumaiyaAkter-i3e no, I’m going on holiday and have been a couple of times and love it.
Thank you for this information, it was very helpful.
Hello Allissa. Would you be so kind as to please make an update on your stomach now after 5 years. We are really curious on how you are doing
I had the Nissan fundoplication surgery 20 years ago. I still have reflux and am on omeprozal every day.
So yours surgery is a fail?
Thank you for sharing your story. Mine is similar. After 20 years of acid reflux and 6 years of getting worse.. 4 gi bleed., multiple meds, failed diet, no result exercise and camerons lesions... I'm finally going to have surgery for my hernia with fundoplication
How are you doing now?
How are u
Hello. I also just had nissen surgery 1 months ago. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is that i feel full very quickly and have chest tightness after eating . i wonder it over time i will be able to eat more and not have chest tightness every time i eat . i hope you will reply
Thank you for sharing with us! I am having a laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication tomorrow and am staying overnight in the hospital one or two nights. I have a hiatal hernia going through my diaphragm so that will get repaired too. I hope I can still burp.
How was your surgery? I hope you’re on the mend and it worked out for you. 😊
@yvettemorales8064 it was good. Thank you for asking. It has been a whole month and I am still having left shoulder pain. They think it's how I was positioned in surgery so I am seeing a specialist tomorrow.
After 5 endoscopy’s in 3 years and trying every medication there is even one from Japan 😂 I’m finally getting this surgery!’ I’m really hoping this works and helps cause this is just miserable feeling bloated, couldn’t eat without feeling miserable the rest of the day, and regurgitating in my sleep constantly. I’m getting the Nissan fundoplicstion and they’re removing my hiatal hernia in 2 weeks.
Bruh you look like Florence Pugh. But yeah I’ve had a rough few years with this hiatal. Thinking ima just starve myself a few months see if the weight drop takes some pressure off the hernia. Try and make some drastic changes before I resign myself to seek out surgical intervention.
Hey there :) thanks for your update videos, it really helps me through my recovery. I’m now almost 5 weeks post op and still have some trouble swallowing. How long did it take you to eat normal again without food getting stuck? And how are you today?:) Thanks and regards from Germany 🙏🏼
how r u now?
I am suffering quite a bit with throat clearing. I haven’t been following my meds perfectly but they aren’t a cure. I would really like to have this surgery if it makes a difference. I worry it’s something more in the stomach in my case maybe the lining? But did you have throat clearing prior to surgery?
Hi Alissa😊can I ask you? Did you have Esophagitis before the surgery? I have very bad esophagitis from Acid reflux and doctor consider anti reflux surgery
So can you please tell us what happened and hasn’t worked for you? Is there a part two to this?
Thanks a lot! Would you consider doing another update video? It would be very helpful.
How do you feel sister now ,next month i going to do fundoplication
after 2 years its a fail for me.
Omg I’m currently going through this misery of GERD and I want to do this Nissen Fundoplication, it’s been 5 years since this video, how are you doing Today? Was it the best decision? Please share your PROS & CONS? Thank you so much for sharing!
How long have you been on the PPI pills?
This thing is not about being over weight or having obesity. I’m slim as the most slimmest person you’ve ever seen. I’m like Naomi Campbell the model and I don’t know how to deal with haital hernia😢
Hello Please i need help I have diagnosis with GRED i had used all medications it didn’t work for me I have got crazy, all the pain in my throat omg it painful i said to my self there something in my throat sometimes i tested something in my mouth something not good Idid ph test monitor doctor said you need to do the surgery Please please someone help to do the surgery and what kind of the surgery is best Thank you all

I have just come out of Hospital after waiting for over 8 years for a Hiatus Hernia Operation. Wrote to numerous People and Politicians in Dublin . Now hopefully, I am on the Road to Recovery.
thank you for the updates I am due to have this surgery on 10-10-24 I hope things go well for me , Iput this off for so long but you get tired of being sick . mine was after i would eat i would need to lay down.
Have you undergone surgery?
I might need to get the same surgery, but it has scared me now watching this video, one of my huge fears is suffocating, the out of breath thing is horrific to me, even if I get a cold it causes me anxiety as I can't breathe. I'm starting to think I should skip the surgery. 2 things, difficulty swallowing, and breathing. I have huge anxiety with them 2 things
All the acid blockers can cause osteoporosis.
Has any1 had ttoubke with sinus issues i mean sneezing for 300 times a day i hear acid can creep up and irritate
Great video
What about loosing taste?
no loss of taste
I had a Nissen fundoplication 35 years ago. Back in the days when they cut you open with a 9 inch cut down the middle....in those days it was an 8 day stay in hospital...35 years later it is still working perfectly. Best decision I ever made...thank you for sharing your story.x
Glad to read that it has lasted so long. I'm a 65 Y.O. and soon to have the surgery (with a top surgeon) and hope to have it last the rest of my life. Are you able to burp and vomit Antony?
Hi... I am sure the operation will last you for the rest of your life. I am 63 now and I was 28 when I had mine...yours will probably be easier as they do it laprascopic ...I can burp fine but I've not been sick since before my operation...plus your on blended food for a few weeks until it settles...I wish you luck. Let me know how it goes. T
@@antonybbb Hey thanks for getting back to me Antony. I really appreciate you replying so quickly. You've given me the inspiration to get the procedure done A.S.A.P. It worked really well for you and that's great. I'll let you know how my procedure goes. Thanks again for your support. Cheers, Sean.
@@SeanC1959 all will be fine... I've just had a hernia operation and that's been ten times worse than my nissan op... So you'll be fine. Cheers T
@@antonybbb Thanks again Antony. I really appreciate your support. I have a hiatal hernia which needs repair as well however I'm not worried. Regards, Sean.
Was anyone on here that had the surgery, have a Hoarse voice due to acid reflux, if so, did your voice clear after the surgery
Hi there, I am commenting on my sons you tube. Can you tell me did you have the full wrap as some do part wraps and did you have open surgery or laparoscopic. Thank you so much for your information, it’s helping with anxiety pre op x
Why are u not making video

Thanks so much for sharing your recovery. I am 73 and I am having my surgery in 2 weeks 😘
Nice...good luck!
Did you lose weight when you have done it my first time
I just had this surgery 7 days ago and I am so depressed because of my difficulties swallowing. I feel like I’m choking on cream of wheat, wondering if I’ll ever be able to eat food again. Every thing I feel is getting stuck in my throat. Thank you for sharing these videos
I had my surgery on August 28, about 2 weeks ago. Didn't your doctor tell you to be on a strict liquid diet? Cream of wheat seems like it would be too thick at this point. I've basically just been living on smoothies and puree soups since I got home from the hospital and haven't had any issues. I hope you feel better soon!
@@greginthesouth2621the doctor said clear liquid first week and to soft diet second week such as mashed potatoes, etc. Guess am just not ready for that yet. Thank you for your response
Hi how's ur eating habits now?@@greginthesouth2621
Thank you for sharing your experience. Hope, you are doing well with no PPI drugs. Now that 5 years have passed, curious to know how you are feeling now. Asking because I am scheduled to go through the same surgery in about a month.
Hi! Still have had no issues since having surgery at the end of 2018. I’m on no medications. Good luck with the surgery!
@@alissachristine250 Thank you!
Doctors could learn a lot from you
This the same procedure as a cTif?
Similar. I had a full nissen wrap and they go through the stomach. I believe Tifs are done through endoscopy. (i could be totally wrong)
