Follow along with updates as we work on various projects in our shop. We are building our own Drag and drive cars. Our cars are mostly Ford powered. We use Holley Efi in our builds. We will also be documenting our local bracket racing, and drag and drive adventures.
After Sick 66, the Ford 300 turbo engine needs a few repairs.
It was quite a battle to make it to the the end of the event. This was a very challenging drag and drive event. We had engine repairs along the way. We had to rebuild the engine timing gear afew times. The inline 6 engine build did great on this trip.

Here we are on day 6 &7 of the sick 66 event driving to Albuquerque, NM We backed down the shift point to try to take it easy on the engine because of the cam gear coming loose. The cam gear walked again after the pass during deceleration. Cracked the timing cover again, we didn't have any more parts so we had to repair what we had and drive the 130 miles with broken parts. #sick66 #sickthemag ...

It's cool he gave it the hawktuah. It's good for a minute 🤣
Playing my boys 🎉🎉🎉🎉
There was an event named that?
Sick tail lights cuz 🎉🎉🎉🎉
How much power does a sewing machine like this setup make? Sick. I was daydreaming on the way home about buying something from the 90s with a 300
13 seconds for a big car with a six is damn good .
That is so badass!
Your excitement is contagious
What a cool-ass build!
Alice sounds so good
Dream build
Sounds sooo good man!!
Portrait mode sucks balls for youtube videos.
Damn, I wish this was in a 1990 F150 XLT Lariat 💔
We can build one for you and you can put it in what ever you want to. Thanks for watching.
Where did you find that water pump block off plate? i want to go electric water pump on my $8500 ford 300 race engine.
The plate is made by Foxrod racing in Whicita Kansas. He has a page on Facebook. We use a Davis craig 150 water pump.
What Cam sensor are you running? I see that the distributor has been modified.
The sensor is a msd hall effect sensor.
Getting ready for dinner with family tomorrow. How about you all?
Got to go to work, take the dog out, cook, eat, sleep you know. Same old stuff. How was dinner dude I see this was two weeks ago
300 hp or so?
We have not had it on a dyno. Based on the performance on the track it calculates to around 400. As we work on the tune it should make 500hp on this setup.
@ Not bad at all. I wouldn’t have guessed that on an inline 6.
Excellent Build man. I'm delighted to see a Ford engine in a sweet old Ford machine. I've been planning alot of my custom work on my jeep 4.0 around ford's 4.9L/300 Inline 6. Tell me more about the valvetrain, fuel and ignition set up please.
I will make a more detailed video about the fuel, and ignition setup. These rocker arms are for a 454 chevy.
Love that 300 Big 6 Turbo!
It has been a fun build. I think we can get an 11.xx something pass out of it.
Thank you for sharing this
More questions, just ask. I try to answer what I can.
I’ve got an 82 ford with the same engine and I’d like to do the same. How do I go about it?? I can’t find videos or forums anywhere!
What are your power goals? Do you have a budget in mind? There are a few options. Blow thru carb. Throttle body efi like a holley sniper. Multi port injection / coil on plug would need a efi system like a holley terminator.
Powernation did several builds on a 300 and the ended up with over 500hp on it. It also had a turbonetics turbo on it. I think it was a size 62 or 63 on the turbo. I have a 76f150 4x4 with a fe390 in it and when i watched the powernation guys do their setup on a 300 i bought me one to eventually replace the 390. Less weight on the truck with about the same hp.
Without a dout the best engine ever for the comon man and could be one of the longest lasting ever .
We enjoy working with this engine. It has been a really fun project.
One of the cool kats
Pretty cool compilation
Which valve cover did you use? I had to cut the inside of mine, add 2 cork gaskets for clearance on the roller rockers I added?
The aftermarket chrome tall valve cover fit on ours. Getting them to not leak is a challenge. Fine line between not tight enough, and too tight and the flange bends. Now we have an aluminum cover from aussie speed, it was expensive, and is very heavy. But it is really nice, and doesn't leak.
@Cutandgrindgarage That's my exact issue. The aussie speed is definitely $. Good build sir, looking forward to more
@@Cutandgrindgaragedo you know if aussie has any aluminum heads for sale? I know they are out there. Its just a hit and miss thing.
Nice vid Shorts are cool too. But nice to tie em all together once in a while as well. Stay safe out there😂👍👍 Funny your equipment brings back some great musical memories. Grace Slick.. Go ask Alice Freddy fender.. I'll be there before the next teardrop falls..😂👍
Glad you enjoyed
Gonna be sweet
Very cool my friends , stay safe
I'm going to enjoy the adventure
Awesome video guys You shared some great story lines and behind the scenes stuff
We try to share as much as we can, hopefully the viewers enjoy the journey.
I like that, "We did Lock Tite them in". Jamie taking care of the comment people.
I am wondering if either the Cam Shaft Gear Journal or the Cam Gear itself have a Taper. What do you think caused the crack
Jamie and her red flannel are pretty
I remember seeing the whale on a couple of trips that I made to Little Rock Arkansas
It was a fun place to stop, and a good memory for Jamie.
@@Cutandgrindgarage I can imagine
@@Cutandgrindgarage Seeing a Submarine in the middle of Oklahoma was amusing too
Is there about 1/4" between Cam Gear and the Cover? I wonder about a Countersink Screw in a Countersunk Hole in a custom Retainet Washer. I don't know if you could Drill and Tap say a #10 Thread.
We are going to modify the timing cover to allow for a bolt to stay in the cam.
@Cutandgrindgarage I didn't know if you had room to do that. That should make it work a whole lot better. I think that you two have the tools, the talent and the wherewithal to custom make a cam cover.
Maybe you think this is fun, but for all the work and an unacceptable MPG I think you are chasing an idea that does not work never worked and never will work.
This is way more than fun to us. Mpg was never a concern. It's more about smiles per gallon. We are sorting out the details, and this will be a reliable project. The experience, and the challenges make for great memories.
Wish I had a few ground to build my 300 and throw on a turbo
Seems like a 383 would be the same hp and alot less money? Stock 300 will power that no problem.
We could have done a boring V8 swap. Still wouldn't have been a chevy in a Ford. This inline engine has been a really fun project.
that’s not your dads straight 6 lol looks like a sleeper
I don't know if is a true sleeper. But it is definitely surprising to most at how well it runs.
I enjoy watching this each time that I come upon it.
Nice '58- that's one sweet long roof Edit - Hang on, IS it a '58? I'm not sure what I'm looking at now... 😅 Either way, it's awesome
It's a 59 2 door ranch wagon
@Cutandgrindgarage Ah, very nice. What's the turbo 300 like? When used the 250ci Ford 6 in Australia, but I think Ford Australia developed a cross flow head for them in the early 80's
@RebeccaKenworthy it has been a really fun project. Right now we are around 350hp, i think we can get to 500hp with more running.
What would be the 1/4 mile times? 12's?
An 8.16 world be about a 12.50 in the quarter.
I just noticed the yellow AMC Hornet coup
He was an awesome young man. he has a channel on here too. I think his channel is @shanesway12
Doing something that you love with someone that you love, doesn’t get any better
This was an amazing trip. So many great memories.
Got to respect a woman who lives right in elbow deep with the repair. You rock girl.
You all have too much practice at doing this repair
You are very right, there are parts of Albuquerque that are best stayed out of as much as possible. I was there in the spring a few years ago. Made one of those wrong turns. There were nice and escorted us out of the area.
Those are fantastic engines. My boss had one in his 1980 F-250. 4 Speed manual... It had over a half a million miles on it.
This has been a really fun project, and we are starting to get the details worked out.
The destination is nice.. But it's the trip that gets you there.....👍
