Ekko is the silliest character in the entire series. He is playing this righteous black dude, when in reality he would be selling shimmer and stealing stuff. I guess that is why it's fantasy. The only thing missing is Wakanda being his original birthplace.

I think your correct but I think that Mel doesn’t even know she is a mage. I think so far whenever I try to think Mel is manipulating Jayce purposefully she is never quite there and that can be a whole talk on its own but I think whenever we see Mel use this power of hers it’s in a instinctive manner. Also we know from the last couple episodes of season 2 Mel’s mom didn’t tell her everything about herself and Mel has a power that the Black Rose wants. She however never realized she had it.

The Magic she used there is for sure Demonic Magic, much like Fiddlesticks with the many red hands and magic surrounding the puppet. That and the Black Rose are notorious for capturing Demons and forcing them to be their slaves.

Arcane has shown that they're committed to staying true to the lore. While a nice detail I'm not surprised they did this because it's early top 3 in video game adaptions across both live action and animated.
